World's Most Deadly Island
Snake Island is the Deadliest Island in the World. Dangerous & venomous snakes called golden lanceheads completely cover snake island just off the coast in Brazil.
Subscribe to Epic Wildlife
This 110 acre island aka Ilha da Queimada Grande is located just 90 miles from the city of Sao Paulo Brazil and is home to over 4,000 venomous serpents that are so deadly, its venom is up to 5x's stronger than any mainland snake and can melt human flesh.
What snake is it?
It is the Golden lancehead and did you know it is responsible for 90% of all snakebite related deaths in Brazil.
You may be wondering how such a small island became so populated with so many venomous snakes.
Well about 11,000 years ago the island was once attached to the mainland, that was until the sea levels began to rise separating it from the coast. Since then it has been known as Ilha da Queimada Grande.
With very few predators around, the snakes on the island were able to quickly multiply and continuously evolve, leading to them having the super venom they have today.
No human is allowed to visit, with the exception of a few scientists given permission to study the snakes and the Brazilian Navy who now takes care of a lighthouse that was built there in 1909.
Legend has it that a family that operated the lighthouse at one time was killed by the venomous vipers on the island.
According to the legend, the family was asleep when snakes entered a window and attacked them. As they attempted to reach their boat to escape the island, they were bitten by snakes hanging from branches overhead.
Sounds like something out of a horror movie right?
But it sounds possible, there are so many snakes in such a small area.
Marcelo Duarte , one biologist who has been given permission to visit the island on 20 different occasions, estimates there is at least one snake per square meter, which means you're never more than 3 feet away from death.

Florida Keys Webcam Captures Sea Turtle Hatch
Using infrared lighting, a live-streaming, high-definition turtle webcam positioned on a beach in the Florida Keys recorded the hatch of about 100 baby loggerhead sea turtles on Friday, July 25, just before 9 p.m.
Friday evening, the 3-inch-long babies erupted from a hole, came out en masse and headed to the Atlantic Ocean under dim moonlight.
The camera uses infrared lighting so hatchlings won't be confused by artificial light and will go to sea — guided by moonlight reflecting on the water -- instead of pushing further onto land.
The webcam has been focused on the nest in the Lower Keys for almost two weeks, and is part of ongoing efforts in the Florida Keys to raise awareness of sea turtles and the need to protect them.
Loggerhead, green, leatherback, hawksbill and Kemp's ridley sea turtles nest on beaches in the Keys and other parts of Florida, and inhabit Florida and Keys waters. All five species are considered either threatened or endangered, and are protected by the Federal Endangered Species Act of 1973.
The webcam was approved by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

SUMMARY
=======
Everglades National Park is an American national park that protects the southern twenty percent of the original Everglades in Florida. The park is the largest tropical wilderness in the United States, and the largest wilderness of any kind east of the Mississippi River. An average of one million people visit the park each year. Everglades is the third-largest national park in the contiguous United States after Death Valley and Yellowstone. UNESCO declared the Everglades & Dry Tortugas Biosphere Reserve in 1976, and listed the park as a World Heritage Site in 1979, while the Ramsar Convention included the park on its list of Wetlands of International Importance in 1987. Everglades is one of only three locations in the world to appear on all three lists. Most national parks preserve unique geographic features; Everglades National Park was the first created to protect a fragile ecosystem. The Everglades are a network of wetlands and forests fed by a river flowing 0.25 miles (0.40 km) per day out of Lake Okeechobee, southwest into Florida Bay. The park is the most significant breeding ground for tropical wading birds in North America and contains the largest mangrove ecosystem in the Western Hemisphere. Thirty-six threatened or protected species inhabit the park, including the Florida panther, the American crocodile, and the West Indian manatee, along with 350 species of birds, 300 species of fresh and saltwater fish, 40 species of mammals, and 50 species of reptiles. The majority of South Florida's fresh water, which is stored in the Biscayne Aquifer, is recharged in the park.Humans have lived for thousands of years in or around the Everglades. Plans arose in 1882 to drain the wetlands and develop the land for agricultural and residential use. As the 20th century progressed, water flow from Lake Okeechobee was increasingly controlled and diverted to enable explosive growth of the South Florida metropolitan area. The park was established in 1934, to protect the quickly vanishing Everglades, and dedicated in 1947, as major canal building projects were initiated across South Florida. The ecosystems in Everglades National Park have suffered significantly from human activity, and restoration of the Everglades is a politically charged issue in South Florida.

The History of Mr. Polly Audiobook by H. G. Wells | Audiobook with subtitles
A funny and touching account of the imaginative Mr. Polly who, bored and trapped in his conventional life, makes a U-turn –- and changes everything.
H.G. Wells’ early life as the son of a semi-insolvent shopkeeper and as a draper’s apprentice fueled his novels of the lower middle class: The Wheels of Chance (1896), Kipps (1905), and The History of Mr. Polly (1910). These works evoke the desperation of apprentices, clerks, and small traders in their monotonous toil behind shop counters. And, like Mr. Polly, his protagonists make a break from their mundane lives with more or less success.
H. G. Wells (1866-1946) was a prolific writer in history, general and science fiction, and politics. He was a lifelong socialist. (Summary by Adrian Praetzellis)

The Cruise of the Snark Audiobook by Jack London | Full Audiobook with subtitles
The Cruise of the Snark (1913) is a memoir of Jack and Charmian London's 1907-1909 voyage across the Pacific. His descriptions of surf-riding, which he dubbed a royal sport, helped introduce it to and popularize it with the mainland. London writes: Through the white crest of a breaker suddenly appears a dark figure, erect, a man-fish or a sea-god, on the very forward face of the crest where the top falls over and down, driving in toward shore, buried to his loins in smoking spray, caught up by the sea and flung landward, bodily, a quarter of a mile. It is a Kanaka on a surf-board. And I know that when I have finished these lines I shall be out in that riot of colour and pounding surf, trying to bit those breakers even as he, and failing as he never failed, but living life as the best of us may live it.
