This video was taken on Sunday, March 22, 2015 by Wisnawa AGF on an area of extensive cultivation of seaweed between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, Bali.

Seaweed farming covers some of the lagoons of the small chain of islands and is a customary method for the locals to earn money.
Seaweed is harvested, laid out on tarpaulins to dry sufficiently to be sold on to a middleman. This is then baled up and and on sold to international commodities traders who send it abroad for processing.
What is the Nusa Lembongan used for? Seaweed is a source of carrageenans, which are used as a gelling or thickening agent in a vast range of consumer products, like toothpaste, pate, ice cream, processed meats, soy milk, diet soda, personal lubricants, air-fresheners and even fire fighting foam.
Historically this trade used to receive $25-26 per kg, unfortunately now the return is more like $5-7 dollars a day.

Low Tide - The Seaweed Farmers of Nusa Lembongan
The film is part of the first episode of the Where's Paradise? project focusing on the island of Nusa Lembongan, 20km SE of Bali. The series puts side by side the western idea of paradise that conjures images of small tropical islands with white sandy beaches and coconut groves and the actual lives of the actual people that live in these often remote places.
The first episode also features a photo set viewable on 500px.com/freemindflow and flickr.com/photos/freemindflow.
The film was shot and edited in an observational documentary style to give the viewer the sense of actually witnessing the most significant and particular part of the island's inhabitants lives.
