VINTAGE Split-Flap Train Schedule @ Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, Nat'l WWII Museum, New Orleans, LA
(Filmed on 3/25/19). When I visited The National WWII Museum in New Orleans for the first time, this is the first building I went into. While waiting in line to ride the virtual train, I happened to notice a train schedule board which seems to use a working split-flap display. These were the earliest types of displays to exist as public transport timetables used in airports & railway stations. Some of which still exist today in the United States as well as other foreign countries.
How these electromechanical devices work is that they are attached to a gear which changes the character of each flap. The character options could either be a letter, number, word, symbol, or nothing at all. The metal flapping sound it produces is used to attract people's attention by constantly providing updates on when certain trains & planes leave and to what destination. In this video, you'll be able to watch as the flaps on each of the two boards in action!
However, the board on the right seemed to be broken today as you'll notice this guy standing on this Genie GS-3232 scissor lift trying to see what the problem is. It was stuck on displaying random characters earlier ago, so I knew something was up with it. Despite that though, I finally got to see a vintage train schedule board with a split-flap display in person as well as get the flaps changing on camera!

Mark Essex Trailer
This is a trailer for a documentary about The New Orleans Sniper of 73. His name Mark Robert Essex known by his family as Lil Jimmy.
The people talking are Mark Essex's Mother, family members and friends in Wichita, Kansas where he grew up. Also, seen is archival footage from the actually scene of the incident in New Orleans.
Mark Essex was his name. He started out as a meek and innocent young man during his teen years, but he ran head first into the injustices of the early 70's. He faced 2 years of constant and unimaginable racism in the Navy during the early 70's which prevented him from doing his job as a dental assistant. The overt racism he faced turned the meek into a Brave heart of epic proportions.
Feeling Hopeless, Mark went AWOL and joined the Black Panther Party in NYC. Years later, he viewed Southern University Students killed by police doing a peaceful protest. It wasn't called Black Lives Matter then, but it's the same struggle for Black People living in an unjust Nation built on extorted labor. Before Travon Martin, Mike Brown Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Orlando Castile,Alton Sterling and so many other unarmed Black People that were killed by the police in recent years, Denver Smith and Leonard Brown were two College Students peacefully protesting on Southern Campus when police shot them. No investigation and charges has ever been brought up.
This same bloody cycle has been going on in this country since police were invented as Slave Catchers, killing Run away enslaved people. Police kill and they don't go to jail or have a trial. They get a paid vacation or a desk job, a reward for taking lives. After they are found innocent, they get a promotion and a pay raise. Witnessing so many injustices, Mark was pushed into the kitchen of his mind making him brew up his own plan for justice just like Micah Xavier Johnson, Gavin Eugene Long also known as Cosmo Setepenra,, Shannon J. Miles and many others. Before them Nat Turner meet unchecked violent injustice in the best way he knew how. (Watch Nate Parker, Birth of a Nation to grab more incite)
On the wall in his apartment in New Orleans, Mark Essex wrote. My Destiny Lies in the Bloody Death of Racists Pigs. Kill the racist pigs that give black people hell everyday. Thats what he did to a few.
He sent a hand written declaration of War to the TV News Station in November of 1972. He warned them that many racist cops would die by his hands. Mark proved that he was an expert Marksman that was ready for War.
Ironically, the first to feel Mark's bullets from over a 100 yards away was a black cadet in training at Central Lock Up. It happened on New Years Eve, 12-31-72 on a cold winter day. Then 5'4, Mark Essex killed another officer that night at the jailhouse, while fleeing to Gerttown, a sub division of New Orleans which is across the highway, separated by I-10, from the Jailhouse in question.
On 1-7-73, He killed a white grocery store owner who appeared on the news and said he seen Mark run from the scene of the murders on New Years. Mark set the city on fire and took 9 lives, 5 N.O.P.D, 4 Hotel Guest, and severally wounded 13 others, all white except the one black cadet. When this 23 year old Black Sniper checked into the Howard Johnson, he never checked out. He took 9 to the here after and made the world remember his name.
This is the ironic thing about Mark (Lil Jimmy) Essex that I learned from his family in Kansas. He grew up with liberal whites. He didn't experience hardly any racism. He had more white friends than he had black friends, and he had several white girlfriends in High School before he went to the NAVY. If he wasn't pushed into a survival state of mind, he wouldn't have checked into the Howard Johnson that day.

I was in the process of making this documentary, Mark Essex when the flooding of Katrina claimed all of my possessions, robbing me of all my footage and equipment, so here I stand with this trailer.

Driving through Mid-Hudson Bridge to Main Street, Poughkeepsie, New York, USA (2019)
Poughkeepsie (/pəˈkɪpsi/ pə-KIP-see), officially the City of Poughkeepsie, separate from the Town of Poughkeepsie, is a city in the state of New York, United States, which is the county seat of Dutchess County. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 32,736.[4] Poughkeepsie is in the Hudson Valley midway between New York City and Albany, and is part of the New York metropolitan area.[5][6] The name derives from a word in the Wappinger language, roughly U-puku-ipi-sing,[7] meaning the reed-covered lodge by the little-water place, referring to a spring or stream feeding into the Hudson River south of the present downtown area.[8]
Poughkeepsie is known as The Queen City of the Hudson. It was settled in the 17th century by the Dutch and became New York's second capital shortly after the American Revolution. It was chartered as a city in 1854. Major bridges in the city include the Walkway over the Hudson, a former railroad bridge (originally called the Poughkeepsie Bridge) which re-opened as a public walkway on October 3, 2009; and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge, a major thoroughfare built in 1930 that carries U.S. Route 44 (concurrent with State Route 55) over the Hudson. The city of Poughkeepsie lies in New York's 18th congressional district.
Mid-Hudson Bridge
The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge is a toll suspension bridge which carries US 44 and NY 55 across the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie and Highland in the state of New York. Governor and local resident Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor attended the opening ceremony on August 25, 1930. The bridge was renamed the Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge in 1994 though the span is rarely referred to by its official name.
The bridge is 3,000 feet (910 m) long with a clearance of 135 feet (41 m) above the Hudson. At opening, it was the sixth-longest suspension bridge in the world. The chief engineer was Polish immigrant Ralph Modjeski, who had previously engineered the strengthening of the nearby Poughkeepsie Railroad bridge. Primary contractor was the American Bridge Company of Ambridge, Pennsylvania with steel from Carnegie. The span is unusual in that stiffening trusses were intentionally constructed on top of, not below, the deck.
Driving Downtown - Newark's City 4K - New Jersey USA
Driving Downtown Streets - Broad Street - Newark New Jersey USA - Episode 43.
Starting Point: . Route: .
Four Corners at the intersection of Broad and Market Streets in Newark, New Jersey, United States, is the site of the city's earliest settlement and the heart of Downtown that at one time was considered the busiest intersection in the United States.
Newark is the largest city (by population) in the U.S. state of New Jersey, and the county seat of Essex County.[25][26] One of the nation's major air, shipping, and rail hubs, the city had a population of 277,140 in 2010, making it the nation's 67th most-populous municipality, after being ranked 63rd in the nation in 2000.[14] For 2015, the Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program calculated a population of 281,944, an increase of 1.7% from the 2010 enumeration,[13] ranking the city the 70th largest in the nation.[27] Newark is the second largest city in the New York metropolitan area, located approximately 8 miles (13 km) west of the region's historic core, in lower Manhattan.
Several leading companies have their headquarters in Newark, including Prudential, Panasonic (North America), Audible.com, and PSEG. A number of important higher education institutions are also located in the city, including the Newark campus of Rutgers University (which includes law and medical schools and the world-renowned Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies); the New Jersey Institute of Technology; and Seton Hall University's law school. The U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey holds court in the city, as well. Local cultural venues include the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark Symphony Hall, The Prudential Center, The Newark Museum, and the Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
Economy
More than 100,000 people commute to Newark each workday,[100] making it the state's largest employment center with many white-collar jobs in insurance, finance, import-export, health-care, and government.[101] As a major courthouse venue including federal, state, and county facilities, it is home to more than 1,000 law firms. The city is also a college town, with nearly 50,000 students attending the city's universities and medical and law schools.[102][103] Its airport, maritime port, rail facilities, and highway network make Newark the busiest transshipment hub on the East Coast in terms of volume.[104][105]
Though Newark is not the industrial colossus of the past, the city does have a considerable amount of industry and light manufacturing.[106] The southern portion of the Ironbound, also known as the Industrial Meadowlands, has seen many factories built since World War II, including a large Anheuser-Busch brewery that opened in 1951 and distributed 7.5 million barrels of beer in 2007.[107] The service industry is also growing rapidly, replacing those in the manufacturing industry, which was once Newark's primary economy. In addition, transportation has become a large business in Newark, accounting for more than 17,000 jobs in 2011.[108]
Newark is one of nine cities in New Jersey designated as eligible for Urban Transit Hub Tax Credits by the state's Economic Development Authority. Developers who invest a minimum of $50 million within 0.5 miles of a train station are eligible for pro-rated tax credit.[109][110] After the election of Cory Booker, millions of dollars of public-private partnership investment were made in Downtown development but persistent underemployment continue to characterize many of the city's neighborhoods. Poverty remains a consistent problem in Newark. As of 2010, roughly one-third of the city's population was impoverished.[93]
Newark is the third-largest insurance center in the United States, after New York City and Hartford.[117] The Prudential Financial, Mutual Benefit Life, Fireman's Insurance, and American Insurance Company all originated in the city. The first, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, has its home office in Newark.[118] Many other companies are headquartered in the city, including IDT Corporation, NJ Transit, Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), Manischewitz, Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey.[119][120] and Audible.com.[121] In 2013 Panasonic moved its North American headquarters to a new 250,000-square-foot (23,000 m2) office building.[122][123]
Portions of Newark are part of an Urban Enterprise Zone. In addition to other benefits to encourage employment within the Zone, shoppers can take advantage of a reduced 3½% sales tax rate (versus the 7% rate charged statewide) at eligible merchants.[124]
