MIROGOJ CEMETERY | DOLAC MARKET | ZAGREB, CROATIA
Mirogoj cemetery and Dolac market! What’s not to love about Zagreb?! ⇩Click to see more⇩
MIROGOJ CEMETARY: This place really takes you back in time. With the lovely large columns at the entrance, it’s pretty hard not to be mesmerized by this beautiful piece of architecture. As mentioned in this video, Miogoj is owned by the city, and has many different religious burials, from Jews, Muslims, Protestants, Catholics, etc. Not only is Mirogoj a cemetery, but it feels as though you are walking through a time machine, everything was preserved so well, I was really quite surprised. I can see why many famous Croatians are buried here. It is beautiful!
DOLAC MARKET: If you are only in Zagreb for a day or two, then I highly recommend visiting the Dolac market. They really give you a great feel for the Croatian culture in a short amount of time. My favourite moments had to be walking through the big red umbrellas seeing all the locals call out to each other. Also, people watching in the cheese section, seeing all the old ladies proudly selling their products, and to see the butchers cut meat to perfection. The cherry on top was at the end when all the old men gather in the bar afterwards for a cold brew. What a day! :)
If you know a friend who is travelling to Zagreb anytime soon, make sure to share this :)

550,000 PEOPLE CELEBRATED HERE! | Zagreb Square & Cathedral | Croatia Travel Vlog
Croatia came 2nd in the football world cup and 550k people celebrated in Ban Jelačić square, Zagreb! Before the cathedral...⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇ Learn to travel full-time:
While Zagreb was home to the football ceremony, and Ban Jelacic square was the end place, it does sound like it was 550,000 people in total came out for the drive from the airport... so sure, not all those people were crammed in here around the square but cool nonetheless.
Just up from the Ban Jelacic square is the Zagreb cathedral, which is the tallest building in Croatia. Inside the church is stunning, as you would expect, but I didnt want to film too much for this travel vlog. Partly because it feels a bit sacred, partly because people are in there having private time and praying. Regardless, if you visit Ban Jelacic square it's worth popping up and seeing the cathedral as well!
It's a shame we werent a few weeks earlier to be around Croatia during the World Cup, but to be in the square and imagine the ceremony was cool either way.

The Sava Floodplains - Croatia's secret paradise
Every year, in the middle of Croatia, it's the same story: after the annual snowmelt, a huge flood wave spills out of the Alps toward Zagreb and Belgrade. This leads to an increase in the River Sava's water levels of some ten meters. The contents of more than ten billion bathtubs floods an area the size of Lake Constance, often for months on end, yet still the Croatian and Serbian capital is spared a flood disaster. One of the reasons for this is the fact that the Sava is able to flow unhindered. The annual floods not only create a natural retention reservoir for flood control: alongside the Sava lies a natural paradise, unique in Central Europe. In the species-rich, alluvial flood forests of the last major meadow landscapes of the continent, enormous predatory fish like the catfish lie in wait for prey.
The fertile floodplains of the Sava are an important resting place for more than 240 bird species, including Hoopoe, great crested Grebe, little Egret, common snipe and pied Avocet. Old, domestic livestock breeds like the Turopolje pig and Posavina horse spend almost the entire year in the floodplains. They appreciate the alluvial meadows, keep puddles and mudholes open whilst wallowing and, as living lawnmowers, they ensure that the moist meadows aren't transformed into dense oak forests. Thanks to this traditional pasture farming, more than 700 pairs of white stork alone breed in the Lonjsko Polje National Park. The Sava Floodplains allow us to glance into the past of our continent and at the same time, illustrate just how flood protection for major towns can be perfected.

TASTING CROATIAN FOOD, BEER & COFFEE | Strukli in Zagreb | Croatia Travel Vlog
In Zagreb we taste Croatian food, beer & coffee and review the best dishes in Croatia. Strukli is our go to food choice in Zagreb...⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇ Learn to travel full-time:
People told us Croatian cuisine was amazing and we'd have to hunt out some food very quickly, in particular Strukli while in Zagreb. Our Airbnb host explained about Zagorski Štrukli, which is from/famous in Zagreb, and why the dish should be high on our list of the best food to try in Croatia. Should note, it's proper spelling is Zagorski Štrukli which we struggled a little to pronounce, sorry!
We got a taste for Strukli as well as some local craft beer and coffee that was roasted in the region. Safe to say that every bit of the Croatian cuisine we experienced in this travel vlog was top notch!
So maybe it's true, maybe the food in Croatia is some of the best in the world. Watch the vlog to see what we think on the dishes we try and how we rate our experience in Zagreb hinting out the best we can find.

Zagreb - Advent Croatia
Zagreb - Advent Croatia
Once upon a time, one of Croatia’s best kept secrets was that her capital city Zagreb had one of the best Advent scenes in Europe. Now, this Croatian secret is out because, Zagreb was voted the best Christmas market in Europe by European Best Destinations’ online poll. Real votes from real people.
Advent in Zagreb has a programme packed with events, concerts and food specialities - think twinkling candlelight, colourful displays, festive food and drink, concerts, choirs and much more.
Not to be missed are:
Ban Josip Jelačić Square – the huge main square sparkles brightly with music and concerts on an open air stage, food marquees and a children’s programme. There’s a huge Christmas tree, the fountain is transformed into a light display and there is a cosy, heated, covered conservatory serving food and drinks. On weekdays and at weekends there is live music.
Fooling around - an innovative and modern cultural and gastronomic event during the Advent season, with a recognizable design and a relaxed atmosphere.
European Square – pedestrian zone in the very heart of the city offers a vivacious Advent event: souvenir and Christmas decorations market, a selection of food and beverages and music events in the evening
Zrinjevac Park – one of the loveliest spots in Zagreb. Lanterns light up the avenues of trees and the old music pavilion looks like a little glittering palace. Artists’ stalls and a great selection of traditional Christmas gifts, Christmas food and drink specialities from decorated tiny wooden huts. This is the spot to experience Zagreb winter specialities including baked štrukle, a warm baked pastry dish with soft cheese. There is mulled wine, hot chocolate and special Christmas cookies. Live music here is every evening and also in the morning at weekends.
Ice Park on King Tomislav Square – A Christmas fairy tale awaits you in one of Zagreb’s most beautiful parks – ice skating rink, selected food and beverages, as well as music events. This is the place to watch people skating and having fun. Visitors are encouraged to join in!
Special Tours – there are plenty of ways to discover Advent in Zagreb with some innovative tours. For those who like to discover everything on your own – there’s the Zagreb Be There – Advent Path. With the help of your smart phones you can now embark on a tour of the most interesting Advent events in Zagreb. As you follow this route, make the most of your visit to Zagreb and if you check-in on most of the locations using #BeThereZagreb - special rewards await you!
Shopping – if you visit Zagreb before Christmas, this is a good place to pick up presents to take home. Shops in the capital feature most international brand names, usually representing savings on UK prices. Many hotels offer special Advent deals representing savings on normal hotel rates.
As so many European capitals are overcrowded and overpriced in the run-up to Christmas, Advent in Zagreb offers room to move and value for money. Croatia’s capital sparkles at Advent time and it is your time to come and join the thousands of visitors who experience award winning Zagreb!
Zagreb is the capital and the largest city of Croatia. It is located in the northwest of the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. Zagreb lies at an elevation of approximately 122 m (400 ft) above sea level. In the last official census of 2011 the population of the City of Zagreb was 792,875. The wider Zagreb metropolitan area includes the City of Zagreb and the separate Zagreb County bringing the total metropolitan area population up to 1,113,111. It is the biggest metropolitan area in Croatia, and the only one with a population of over one million.
Zagreb is a city with a rich history dating from the Roman times to the present day. The oldest settlement located in the vicinity of the city was the Roman Andautonia, in today's Ščitarjevo. The name Zagreb is recorded in 1134, in reference to the foundation of the settlement at Kaptol in 1094. Zagreb became a free royal town in 1242. In 1851 Zagreb had its first mayor, Janko Kamauf.
