Seed Savers Exchange USA
Seed saver exchange is a non-profit member supported organization with the mission to save North America's diverse but endangered garden heritage for future generations by building a network of people committed to collecting, conserving and sharing heirloom and open pollinated seeds. In the 1970's our co-founders Diane and Kent Whealy advertised their hope to begin a seed exchange amongst farmers and gardeners around the world in order to preserve heritage varieties of fruit and vegetable crops.

Bill Musser: Following Your Passion and Finding Your Niche in a Small Research Library
Podcast Links:
Abstract:
You don't need to work in a major institutional setting to be a research librarian. Here's an example of how one librarian who does it all contributes to the mission of Seed Savers Exchange (SSE), the oldest and largest non-governmental seed bank and heirloom seed-sharing organization in the United States. At the heart of many non-profits like SSE is a passion for a cause you might share, with information/research needs similar to those of larger institutions. Working in a dynamic, multitasking environment, the solo librarian serves the organizational mission by drawing upon a wide variety of competencies in librarianship, fueled by a passion for the organizational mission of preserving genetic and cultural diversity.
Biography:
Bill Musser has been the Librarian at Seed Savers Exchange, located near Decorah, Iowa, since January 2010. With rural roots and an undergrad academic background in classical studies, religion, art, and Scandinavian studies, he is intrigued by the historic interplay of culture and agriculture, people and plants. Bill received his MA-LIS in 2001 from the University of Iowa and has held positions in libraries at both Cornell College, in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Luther College, in Decorah, Iowa. He is a member of Beta Phi Mu, the International Library and Information Studies Honor Society.
