SELIMIYE MOSQUE - Nicosia, Cyprus
Selimiye Mosque in Nicosia or Lefkosia as it is called in the Turkish side is another example of Christian places of worship converted into mosques. It has the typical lines you will find in any cathedrals across Europe and other parts of the world, with beautiful arches, amazing windows and although kept simple by the Turkish government, you can still be transported into an era long gone.
Crossing into the Turkish side is not as impressive as the Greek side though, as after visiting the buildings/market etc in the Turkish side scattered alongside Greek border, there is no development at all.

Selimiye Mosque/St. Sophia Cathedral, Nicosia
Selimiye Mosque, historically known as Cathedral of Saint Sophia, is a former Roman Catholic cathedral converted into a mosque, located in North Nicosia. It is the main mosque of the city. The Selimiye Mosque is housed in the largest and oldest surviving Gothic church in Cyprus (interior dimensions: 66 X 21 m) possibly constructed on the site of an earlier Byzantine church.
In total, the mosque has a capacity to hold 2500 worshipers with 1750 m2 available for worship.

Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque (Saint Nicholas's Cathedral), Famagusta, Northern Cyprus
The Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque originally known as Saint Nicholas's Cathedral and later as the Saint Sophia Mosque of Magusa, is the largest medieval building in Famagusta Built between 1300 and 1400, it was consecrated as a Catholic cathedral in 1328. The cathedral was converted into a mosque after the Ottoman Empire captured Famagusta in 1571 and it remains a mosque to this day. The building is built in Rayonnant Gothic style, quite rare outside France, though mediated through buildings in the Rhineland. The historic tie between France and Cyprus is evidenced by its parallels to French archetypes such as Reims Cathedral. Indeed, so strong is the resemblance, that the building has been dubbed The Reims of Cyprus; it was built with three doors, twin towers over the aisles and a flat roof, typical of Crusader architecture. The upper parts of the cathedral's two towers suffered from earthquakes, were badly damaged during the Ottoman bombardments of 1571, and were never repaired. With the Venetians defeated and Famagusta fallen by August 1571, Cyprus fell under Ottoman control and the cathedral was converted into a mosque, renamed the St.Sophia Mosque of Magusa.

The beautiful Cathedral of Saint Sophia (gr.Ayia Sophia/ Holy Wisdom), the largest and oldest Gothic church in Cyprus, was converted in mosque (Selimiye Mosque) in 1570 by the Ottomans.
