Korea's biggest annual fireworks festival was held in Seoul yesterday,... leaving people awe-struck and already anticipating next year's edition.
Our Kim bo-kyoung has the highlights.
Vivid colors embroidered the clear autumn sky... as the 2019 Seoul International Fireworks Festival finally got underway on Saturday at Hangang Yeuido Park.
First held in the year of 2000, Korea's biggest annual fireworks festival has mesmerized Seoul citizens,... enough to make them forget about the heavy traffic and the cold winds.
Every year, firework teams from around the world are invited here to light up the sky with vibrant colors, drawing out many people to Yeouido along with their friends and loved ones.
This year, teams from China and Sweden were out to demonstate their skills.
The Chinese team started with a short yet impressive display under the theme of 'The Starry Night'.
The Swedish team followed up with a splashy exhibit of their own, showing off the colors of the North.
I had a chance to come here for the first time as I had a reserved seat, and it is quite amazing to see fireworks from this close.
The highlight of the festival got underway... when the Korean team began its 40-minute-long show... under the theme, 'Life is COLORFUL'.
I come to see the fireworks every year but this year's was much more amazing. I am proud to be a Seoul resident and very happy to enjoy this with my daughter.
The festival came to an end with streaks of light shooting across the night sky,... building anticipation for another great show in next year's edition.

서울세계불꽃축제 - Walking around Seoul International Fireworks Festival, Seoul, Korea
Seoul International Fireworks Festival (Korean: 서울세계불꽃축제) is an event which shows fireworks in Seoul by Hanwha company. Different countries participate in this event every year. Last year, Canada, Japan, France and South Korea worked together. This event was held in 2000 first. It starts at Hangang Park in the evening in October. However, festival was cancelled on 2001, 2006, and 2009.
About 100,000 fireworks went off, and more than a million of viewers visited every year. Seoul International Fireworks Festival is the typical festival in Korea. There are about 20,000 visitors at main event hall at Yeoido. Moreover, there are about 100,000 visitors near Wonhyo Bridge, Hangang Bridge, Hangang Park Ichon Area and more places. In total, about 120,000 visitors enjoyed the festival.
Generally, each team who participated in Seoul international fireworks festival costs about 200 million won. Including the incidental expense, group Hanhwa spent about more than 1.5 billion won.
The main event hall that located in front of the 63 Building is the best place for enjoying the festival. You also can enjoy the sound tracks. However, it will be extremely crowded. Besides, Hangang Park Ichon Area which is located northern extremity end of Hangang and Nodeul Island which is located at the central Hangang Bridge are chosen for great view. However, it is impossible to listen with the sound tracks which is from the main event hall. It is recommended only for taking pictures or avoiding extremely crowded. If you want to avoid crowded or you are with lovers or family, you can get the official tickets from the fireworks event which is proceeding from Hanhwa.
The closest subway station is line 5 Yeouinaru Station. However, the station will be extremely crowded. Therefore, visitors recommended for get off at line 5 Yeouido Station, line 9 Saetgang Station, or line 1 Daebang Station and walk. If visitors want to enjoy the Seoul international fireworks festival at Hangang Park Ichon Area, it is better to get off at line 1 Yongsan Station, line 4 Sinyongsan Station, or Ichon Station. Many visitors enjoy the festival at the opposite side of the main event hall, the Hangang Park Ichon Area. The festival will be crowded with people before it start about 3 hours ago, visitors need to go early to choose the best place to sit.
Seoul International Fireworks Festival is held from a private institution, Hanhwa, although there are many festivals that are held from the public institution like Busan International Fireworks Festival and Pohang International Lights Festival. In 2005, the then mayor of Seoul, Lee Myung-bak, said It is a really big problem that Seoul City's budget and event progressing are supporting to the event from only a private institution and he did not attend the opening ceremony of the Seoul International Fireworks Festival that are attended by convention. There are many opinions that it should move the event place to another one or abolish the festival because its purpose for the event is corporate communications and it induces traffic jams in the center of a city and trash problem.

Seoul International Fireworks Festival will embroider the autumn night sky with beautiful fireworks on October 4, 2014, within the area of Yeouido Hangang Park. The 12th Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2014 jointly hosted by Hanwha Group and SBS and supported by the Seoul Metropolitan City government took place at the Yeouido Hangang Park.

With mesmerizing showcases by Korean fireworks designers, a total of 110,000 fireworks by designers from the U.K., China, and Italy, covered the sky on the day.
This festival takes place annually in early October and if you are coming to South Korea, it is a must-visit place on the day.

The skies above Seoul were lit up last night by a must-see fireworks festival.
Hundreds of thousands of people lined the river flowing through the Korean capital... to watch and listen.
Our Lee Minsun was there, and says it was a big hit. Bursts of color lit up the clear autumn sky Saturday night... along Seoul’s Hangang River.
It was the 16th edition of the Seoul International Fireworks Festival.
Things got started before it was even dark, a rare chance ahead of the opening ceremony to see fireworks in the daylight.
First held in the year 2000, this has become one of Korea's most important festivals, and it brought out hundreds of thousands of people to the riverside with their friends and families.
I live nearby so I came to watch these fireworks from around the world. It's fun. I especially liked when the fireworks were set to the tune of Gangnam Style.
Large local and international firework teams are asked to join the festival every year. And this time, teams from Spain, Canada and Korea have been invited to wow the crowds and light up the night sky over Yeouido.
To the sound of music from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the Spanish team put on a show on theme of Olympic Dreams, depicting the art and culture of two Olympian cities, Seoul and Barcelona.
Seeing these fireworks in person is really moving. It's nothing like watching it on a screen.
For the Korean team's show, the theme was The Dreaming Moon.
Based on a Korean custom, they floated a gigantic full moon into the sky... on a tether lined with fireworks, inviting the people on the ground to make a wish.
Their mesmerizing 40-minute display reminded people of dreams and aspirations they might have forgotten.
The festival came to a close with a crescendo of crackling booms and streaming colors, thrilling the crowds and leaving with them with big expectations for next year's edition.
