How to ride the Shanghai subway
Riding the Shanghai subway is easy and this video will prove it to you.
To prepare your trip, have a good subway map so that you can plan your destination. We like this one: They have a smartphone app as well. The app works offline. It helps you plan your route, has maps of the area around the subway and will find the nearest subway stop.
Some stations are very large and have many exits. Check the map inside the station to avoid walking forever to your destination.

The Shanghai Subway, Part I
This film shows the subway system of the city of Shanghai.
With 24 Million inhabitants Shanghai is one of the largest cities in the world. It's subway system is fairly new: It only opened in 1993, but since grew to an impressive 14 lines, 330 stations and 537km route length, and new routes will still open over the next years. The subway is very well adopted by the people and it became one of the busiest in the world.
This film shows some scenes of the subway system. Most of it is built under ground, and platform edges are usually equipped with screen doors, which makes it a bit hard to film. Nevertheless, I hope to be able to give a good impression of the Shanghai Subway and how it works.
Enjoy!

Crazy Shanghai Subway Fight
This is some crazy stuff that I saw the other day on my way home from work and I was front row center! The guy in the pink polo cut the line in front of the skinnier guy to get on the train (which, unfortunately is really common here).
It's good that people are getting called out for such rudeness, but that escalated quickly, especially when the wife (after handing off her baby for someone else to hold) gets involved. ????
I've seen a lot of fights in the 5 years since my husband and I moved here from the US, but this was intense.
Watch it until the end, it's complete insanity!

China's first subway station built on running lines in Shanghai
Two and half hours per night for 11 nights – that’s how long it took to build Chenxiang Road station, the first subway station built on running lines in Shanghai, China. Since the operation of existing lines must not be affected, construction has to be done at night. #Shanghai #Infrastructure
