Visiting China? I wrote up some things you should know before going --
China Nightlife - We start at a couple hip bars in Zhujiang New Town aka downtown Guangzhou including Revolution Cocktail .. And then the mai event at Party Pier, the most popular night life and clubbing scene in GZ. It really is designed quite well.. all the late night bars and clubs concentrated in one ‘pier’ area .. usually going late until 4-5-6am sometimes depending on the place. This video is of O2 club, a popular one, but there’s also other clubs like Suns, and several bars like Revolution and Zapatas. Also chiller bars up on top of the pier to drink and smoke hookah. Either way, when you visit Guangzhou city you will come to Party Pier. You can take the metro aka subway there before 11pm. But usually it gets crowded around 1-2am.

Finding The Perfect Riverside Chinese Town: Fenghuang Is A DREAM! (China vlog 2019 凤凰 湖南)
Tucked away deep inside China's Hunan province, is the picture-perfect riverside town of Fenghuang. Fenghuang town, sometimes called the phoenix town, isn't on most westerners' China itineraries - but it should be! From narrow cobblestoned alleys to rickety stilt houses perched right on the river, you'll repeatedly have to pinch yourself to see if you're not dreaming. And the best part? If you're lucky, you can have Fenghuang Hunan mostly to yourself - give or take a few Chinese ;)
We highly recommend visiting Fenghuang old town (also called Fenghuang gucheng), if you're planning a China trip! We promise you won't be disappointed :)
We hope you enjoyed this China vlog & the fun-loving town of Fenghuang China - there are many more videos to come as we travel China for the next few weeks! Sweet & Sour CHINESE Street Food on Shantang Street + Silk Factory Tour | Suzhou, China
The trip I took to China in April of 2019 was mind-blowing in so many ways. I had the incredible opportunity to explore three unique cities—Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou—and take deep dives into their history, culture, and food. Along the way, I met lots of kind, friendly people and had experiences I will remember for the rest of my life. Join me as I explore the Middle Kingdom!
My fourth full day in China (and second day in the city of Suzhou) continued that afternoon. My friend and guide Judy took me to a local silk factory and then we went to eat some incredible street food along Shantang Street! Join us as I explore more of Suzhou!
In addition to its nickname “the Venice of the East,” Suzhou is also known as the silk capital of China. At the silk factory, there are displays explaining the origin of weaving in Suzhou, silk garment exhibition halls, the life cycle of silkworms, and much more!
There are over 60 silk factories in Suzhou. This city is the best in the world when it comes to silk! Because it was Saturday afternoon, this silk factory didn’t have any workers working, so we headed over to another factory nearby.
At the second factory, we saw the silkworm cocoons. I learned that there are double cocoons that contain a male and a female silkworm and they spin the silk together. I watched the workers work. They put the cocoons in water, attach the silk string to the gears on the machine, and pull it out until you’re left with only the pupa in the cocoon. Each cocoon provides one mile of silk!
Once the silk is pulled out, they weave the silk into a type of garment. I saw the huge weaving machines, which have templates for whatever type of garment they want to make.
I watched the workers make a silk duvet my hand. In the next area, there were lots of beds with silk covers. The prices vary by price, but I saw one that costs about $1,000 U.S.
Then I reached the gift shop and looked for a scarf for my wife. There was some beautiful embroidery. There were lots of clothes there; it felt like a mall! I saw some really nice silk shirts. I found the silk scarves, which were really beautiful.
I found a purple-and-gold one and a red one for me, which came to about $100 U.S., a lotus flower one for my wife, and another for my father. They were 30% off of the original price and came to about $135 total. What a great deal for these high-quality silk products!
There were lots of other products there, including pillowcases, wallets, and more!
Then, we headed to Shangtang Street, where there are lots of street food restaurants. Everything looked so good! This area was bustling and felt more commercial than other areas I’d visited. I saw a tablet that had been written by the emperor and the Baby Grand Canal. It was tiny and I could see the different layers of the old city.
I bought a sticky rice cake with red bean paste. It was really good and filling, but super hot! It cost about 20 cents! Next was sesame candy, which was really good and very crunchy. It almost tasted like chocolate!
We walked through a tunnel and reached the more residential area. I liked this area more; it felt more authentic. Judy showed me an herbal medicine candy that’s good for coughs, so I tried some because I’d had a cough the last few days. It was like a sugary bar of medicine!
I tried some delicious pineapple and watched a man play a beautiful, traditional instrument. Atop one of the bridges, I got a wonderful view down the canal. From there, we turned around to go to a popular restaurant.
There, we got a sweet-and-sour Mandarin fish, which cost 198 Yuan/roughly $29 U.S. The fish had a beautiful presentation and contained no bones. It was like sweet-and-sour chicken, but fish. It was a crunchy, fried fish with a sweet sauce and a lot of meat! The dish was really big, so you should share it with someone.
Then I tried the sticky rice ball soup with pork and vegetables, which reminded me of wonton soup. The rice balls were like mochis. The star of the show was the fish, though! It was unreal!
My bill came to 246 Yuan/$36 U.S. Then we headed up to the bridge to see the view, but there were way too many people!

The ULTIMATE Chinese FOOD & CRAFT BEER Tour in French Concession | Shanghai, China
In April of 2019, I had the amazing fortune of getting hired by a fantastic company in China for a one-day job. I extended my trip to twelve days so I could properly explore Shanghai, a city I first visited in 2015 with my father. I also added days in the cities of Suzhou and Hangzhou so I could experience places that were completely new to me. I can’t wait to share this epic series with you!
Follow UnTour Food Tours on Instagram:
My second full day in China continued with a mind-blowing Chinese food and craft beer tour in the French Concession, an area I had explored earlier that morning. I linked up with my boy Topher from UnTour Food Tours, who would be taking me around to his favorite spots in the area. I’d never had Chinese craft beer, so I was super excited!
UnTour Food Tours do amazing tours in Shanghai and Beijing, and also work with other companies in Chengdu and Hong Kong, so check them out if you’re ever in China!
We headed out to explore the middle part of Shanghai. This area contains lots of glitzy boutiques. Everything there looked brand new and luxurious and there were lots of skyscrapers.
We started at Liquid Laundry, a super nice and modern gastropub and nanobrewery that offers 15 beers. I started with a Cezanne farmhouse ale, which was smooth and silky with a hint of coconut. The head had a nice, creamy flavor!
Then we tried some from the barrels. They have a 3-barrel system and 8 fermenting tanks. We tried a Haze IPA, which was light, cloudy, and creamy with a nice head. The next one was tangy. Then we tried a flight of beers with an imperial stout, porter, cocoa porter, honey wine, an IPA, and a Cezanne.
The Cezanne was very light. The wheat pale ale had a hint of wheat, and the mango IPA had a nice mango flavor. The next one was like a sparkling water with a honey finish. The porter had notes of coconut and chocolate, and the imperial stout was perfect for the cold weather outside. There were notes of vanilla. It was my favorite one!
Then it was time to eat! We headed down a dark back alley, but Shanghai is a really safe city. We went for some dumplings. There were lots of different varieties to choose from, so I had Topher surprise me with our order.
We got some Suntory beer and boiled cabbage and pork dumplings. We made a dipping sauce out of rice vinegar, soy sauce, chili sauce, dried chili, and minced garlic. It was so good. The sauce was amazing! I loved the spice, but it sneaks up on you!
We headed back down the street with our beers—open containers are allowed in China. Next, we headed to The Camel, which was voted Shanghai’s best sports bar. Most of the beers here aren’t local craft beers; they’re imported. We only got 4 Chinese beers: a nice and hoppy American Wild Ale, a juicy hazy IPA, a malty pale ale, and a Maybach that tasted like a German beer. I loved the IPA!
Then we walked about 5 minutes to get some knife-cut beef noodles. They’re made with a dense, high-gluten dough. They only take 30 seconds to boil. We tried the most-consumed beer in the world, which was very watery. Then, we dug into the noodles!
The noodles were thick and had a great sauce. They were also al dente and super tasty. We added some spice to them. I loved the mix of the heat, sauce, cilantro, and noodles. I didn’t want them to end!
Our last stop was Daga Brew Pub, which focuses on Chinese craft beer. I liked it a lot. It was packed with people. We got five beers. I started with a jasmine tea lager, which was so different. I liked it! Then was a German wheat beer, a Sichuan IPA, a hoppy hazy IPA, and a brown ale.
What an amazing Chinese food and craft beer tour! If you enjoyed coming along with me on it, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment. Also, please subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food content!
