Riding the Overnight Bus Hotel in Japan
You can save money on accommodations by riding the overnight bus. Today I’m trying out the premium bus called Relier Dream from Tokyo to Kyoto.
Note that this bus is considered premium and cost around ¥13000 one way. However you can also take less expensive options like a standard bus, which goes for ¥2500-¥3000 one way. For budget travelers I recommend a company called Willer.
If you like food and travel, subscribe and press the bell icon for notifications. I’m based in Tokyo Japan, so you’ll see lots of Japan based content. However I also travel often so you’ll get to see other parts of the world as well.

TRYING an OVERNIGHT BUS HOTEL in JAPAN!
I tried an overnight bus hotel in Japan and it was an amazing travel experience! The tiny room was a normal small sized Tokyo capsule hotel like pod and made my travel across Japan incredibly unique and comfortable. Enjoy this hotel tour of the overnight hotel bus / pod / hotel on wheels!

View the itinerary for these two bus tours from Narita Airport here:
There is much to do near Narita Airport, and there are even bus tours which bring you to multiple nearby attractions. In this video we will go on two of the tours offered, each taking about six hours. On the first tour we'll visit feudal era replica town Boso no Mura, make our own instant miso packets, and walk through Sawara also known as Little Edo. On the second tour we'll visit Boso no Mura as well, then make our own onigiri, and finally visit Nio-son Temple to see a fire ritual and explore the historic grounds.

Japan Trip Engyoji Temple
Shoshazan Engyoji dates from 966. The temple sits atop Mt. Shosha in Hyogo Prefecture south of Himeji. Engyoji is temple #27 on the 33 temple, 1000km Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage.
There is a ropeway to carry you from the bottom of the mountain to a visitor center. Just a short distance from there is the temple bell (Jihi no Kane). Visitors are encouraged to ring the temple bell (just once please). If you do, you will feel the long, low sound resonate through your body.
The path from the temple bell to the main gate (Niomon) is flanked by bodhisattvas. Each of these icons represent one of the temples on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. Completing this mini-pilgrimmage is said to have the same effect as taking the 1000km journey. As you walk up the trail, you will hear the bell ring again and again!
This is truly one of the great temple sites in Japan. Enjoy!
BTW: Scenes from the Last Samurai were filmed here. Once you visit, it is easy to see why this location was picked!

Wind chimes at the bus stop, Kyoto station.
Wind chimes at the bus stop, Kyoto station.
(Japan, June 2017)
Kyoto Station is the city's transportation hub, served by Japan Railways (including the Tokaido Shinkansen), Kintetsu Railways and the Karasuma Subway Line. It is also the site of a large bus terminal for city buses and long distance and overnight buses.
There are two sides to the Kyoto station: Karasuma and Hachijo.
The busiest side of Karasuma to the north faces the center and is named after the main street leading the center.
The main bus terminal is located on the Karasuma side, as are many hotels, shops and the Kyoto Tower. The more tranquil side of Hachijo to the south provides access to some more hotels, Toji Temple and a few other road bus stops.
The wait is under roof, with monitors informing the status and schedule of the buses ... and the soft clink of bells.
