Bentendo(temple) at Ueno Shinobazu pond, Taito, Tokyo

☆Bits of knowledge〜Bentendo〜
In Japanese a Benten-dō (弁天堂 lit. hall of Benten?) is a Buddhist temple dedicated to Benten or Benzaiten, goddess of wealth, happiness, wisdom and music. Many such temples exist all over Japan.
Because the goddess was originally the personification of a river, Benten-dō often stand next to some source of water, a river, pond, spring, or even the sea. The goddess is routinely believed to be essentially the same as kami Ugajin within the syncretism of Buddhism and local kami worship called shinbutsu-shūgō. For this reason, Benten-dō can be found also at many Shinto shrines, despite use of the suffix -dō, which is the traditional designation for a Buddhist hall. In contrast, the halls of Shinto shrines use the esuffix -den, as in honden. An example of the syncretic association is the Kawahara Shrine in Nagoya.

The fortune of Benzaiten, and the origin of Kabuki Benzaiten - The god of music, dancing, and thriving business.
Kabukicho used to be swampland where lots of gods were enshrined. In April of 1945, the shrine with all of its amulets was burnt down. One devoted believer evacuated Benzaiten from the tragedy.
Kihei Suzuki, leader of restoration association, had built a temporary shrine for Benzaiten before they restored the town itself in 1946.
This is where the shrine still stands. On the monument in the shrine, the following is inscribed In honour of our everlasting respect for Benzaiten as a neighbourhood guardian.

Sink lanterns in Ueno Shinobazu pond, Taito, Tokyo

Dajko in Tokyo (Part One)
Hi! I am currently in Tokyo!
I will be studying in Seoul, South Korea this summer and decided to vlog as much as I can during my time there. However, since I was going to be on that side of the world, I wanted to visit some other countries while I had the chance. I have never been to Japan, but thanks to my dear friend Naoko, I was able to visit Tokyo for a few days before the start of my program in Seoul.
This is part one of a three-part video series for my vacation in Tokyo.

Where to go in Tokyo Part 3 (Ueno Park and the fancy Harajuku and Shibuya)
On this episode:
It's our last day in Tokyo, and we decided to go around after checking out of our hostel. Coin lockers are a thing in Japan, where you can store your luggage while you go around. Unfortunately, we couldn't use them on this day because of Mr. Trump! But that didn't spoil the fun.
Pinoy in Japan Series
Japan has always been among the top destinations in the world. But it is more than just Tokyo, Osaka, ramen and cherry blossoms. Join me as I take you to some of the places and show you some of the things I experience as an ordinary person working and living here. Nothing fancy. Simply Emman in Japan.
Ueno Park Night Walk
Ueno Park Night Walk 3/22/2019. We are walking around Ueno Park at night. There are food vendors here and there including Starbucks. We walk around looking for more sakura (cherry blossoms) but it is dark with only the park lights so it’s hard to see the sukura. We continue our walk through a path with lantern strung up on both sides and find a stairway that goes down to Shinobazunoike Bentendo Temple. This walkway is mostly food vendors for whatever appetite you have and it's a nice area to relax under the stars. Enjoy!
