Bizarre Underwater Discoveries
From amazing art to a mysterious train, these are 13 of the most bizarre underwater discoveries.

10. The Cancun Underwater Museum has over 500 underwater sculptures dedicated to the Art of Conservation. The unique attraction offers divers a spectacular view of the statues that can be seen from a glass bottom boat. The museum began its venture in Cancun in 2009 and was completed in 2013. Each figure was made from a PH neutral cement, coral, seaweed and algae. The reason for this is to help benefit and protect coral reefs. Coral reefs can be created from sunken ships that fall to the bottom of the ocean floor. Creating statues are used to help save the ocean by creating a new way to grow coral reefs.
9. MS Zenobia was a Swedish ferry boat that sank on her maiden voyage in 1980 near Larnaca, Cyprus. After passing through the Strait of Gibraltar in route to Athens Greece the captain began to notice problems associated with steering. Once they arrived at Larnaca, the problem occurred again and the computerized pumping system was forcing additional water into the adjacent ballast tanks because of a software error. A few days after the ferry sank and sank in Larnaca Bay. Now it is a favorite dive site for visitors in Cyprus.
8. From land, the swimming whole Angelita looks like an average swimming hole. It is located in the Yucatan in Mexico. Divers have to plunge down to nearly 100 feet underwater to see the river. The “Underwater River,” is a cenote that is just an optical illusion produced by a cloud of hydrogen sulfide intermingling with the surrounding saltwater.
7. USS Oriskany is nicknamed the “Mighty O”. Was one of the small amount of Essex-class aircraft carriers finished only after World War II for the United States Navy. The ship was called for the Battle of Oriskany through the Revolutionary War. The aircraft carrier saw years of combat through both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars before the carrier was purposely sunk to become part of the world's largest artificial coral reef.
6. Several miles off New Jersey’s coast there lie an unanticipated site below the ocean’s surface. Two trains were found in 1985 but no one knows for sure how they got there. The most excepted theory behind how the locomotives got there is that in the 1850's the trains were being transported from the place they were built to their new home which was likely a rail yard. Because the locomotives were small, they could have been pushed overboard into the sea. Now the trains give an interesting spot for divers.
5. Yonaguni Monument is located off the coast of the Ryukyu Islands, in Japan. The monument is connected to a large rock mass in the ocean and believe to have been deposited over 20 million years ago. The main monument is a rectangular formation which measures 490 by 130 ft. The rock formation is made out of moderate to very fine sandstones and mudstones. Scientist who have studied the formation have concluded that some of the features could be manmade. One scientist believes that the site could be fragments of the legendary lost continent of Mu.
4. The SS President Coolidge was an ocean liner from the U.S. The large ship saw its nautical days finish after yielding to mines near the large military base on Espiritu Santo. Now the ship is used as a dive site. Divers can see a mostly intact cruise liner and a military ship. They can swim through numerous parts of the ship. There are guns, cannons, Jeeps, a stunning statue of The Lady, chandeliers, and a mosaic tile fountain. Coral grows around the ocean liner where the divers can view sea creatures such as reef fish, barracuda, sea turtles and moray eels.
3. The Titanic, was the world’s largest cruise ship sank on her maiden voyage on April in 1912. The ship was touted as “unsinkable” and was supposed to be one of the safest ships ever built in history. She collided with an iceberg, and nearly half of the passengers lost their lives due to the inadequate supply of life boats on board.
2. The Lion City is a real life Atlantis located in China. The city was purposely flooded to make way for a build hydroelectric power station in 1959. Unfortunately, the city was forgotten but remains largely intact for being underwater for fifty years. Currently, there are plans in the works for divers because they like to use the metropolis to use as a tourist site.
1. SS Thistlegorm merchant ship that was sunk during World War II in the Red Sea. She set to sell for Alexandria, Egypt when two bombs were dropped on her from above. The bombs struck the stern of the ship, and it quickly sank. The ship and holds everything from vehicles, motorcycles, ammunition and other weaponry. Now the SS Thistlegorm is used as a recreational diving site.

Is This The Scariest Bridge In America?
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland reaches nearly 200 feet in certain parts and measures 4.3-miles long from end to end - and for some motorists, getting behind the wheel and driving across the bridge is simply out of the question.
Moving the last Quad 40 from the Battleship New Jersey
During World War II and the Korean War, the Battleship New Jersey carried twenty Quadruple 40mm Bofors Gun Mounts. These guns were used most famously for protecting American aircraft carriers from Kamikaze attacks during WWII. In 1967 while preparing the ship for service in Vietnam, all of the Quad 40s were removed. Nineteen of them were destroyed, but one was put on display at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Fifty years later, on July 5, 2017, the 23,000 pound weapon began a journey back to its original home at the Battleship New Jersey. The Quad 40 is being moved temporarily to Basking Ridge, NJ, to be restored by The Mahan Collection, a team of experts in historic preservation. After it is restored, the Quad 40 will be moved to its final home at the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial in Camden, NJ. Ship Bottom 1bicycleddie rides Mt Bike during Hurricane Sandy at Jersey Shore 10 29 2012
I was waiting to video riding in a rain storm and God provided the worst Hurricane Sandy in East Coast history. On this video you will hear the power of the wind and rain. Knowing too, that so much of our lives changed on that day, you can hear in my voice, my hesitation at riding in the storm. Bicyclists are killed in storms by falling limbs and by crashing into fallen limbs, so safety was paramount on this ride. This is videoed in Cranbury, West Windsor, Freehold and Neptune, NJ as the storm pounded us on that Monday. I had no power for 7 days, no water, only dry or canned food. Yet what a lesson on community, NJ made it through cause wes some tough summs of a gum.

10 Unbelievable Underwater American Discoveries
You won't believe what amazing discoveries people have made here in America even an underwater Stonehenge in Lake Michigan!

6. The Mississippi Pirate Boat
Did you know the pirates were even in the Mississippi River searching booty? This discovery was made near Missouri after a group of scuba divers decided spontaneously to search for riverboat artifacts and uncovered a boat from the 17 hundreds in remarkable condition! How did no one find this before? It was only in a river. This 300 year old boat was called the Negrito by its crew, and the captain who sailed this boat through the seas was Black Eye Dan. Hold on minute, You’re telling me this fake. Okay turns out this was a cruel hoax among the people of Arkansas and St. Louis. So if you came across this story or read it somewhere, it’s our job to let you know this one wasn’t real. Cool photo nonetheless.
5. Lake Mead Ghost Town
As water levels area at an all time low at Lake Mead due to a severe drought in recent years, this reveals a ghost town. Each year, Las Vegas’ water reservoir seems to diminish slowing and things that were once underwater are now popping up, even small cities! Unbelievable but this is true. The abandoned town of St. Thomas is now visible and can soak up the sun. People fled their homes when the Hoover Dam was built. It blocked the waterflow and in 1938 this city was submerged and was even below 60 feet of water! Founded in 1865, this is also one of the oldest cities in Southern Nevada even older than Sin City by 40 years! Tourists can now visit the ruins of this ghost town. This just goes to show how fast water goes missing in the desert.
4. New Jersey’s Deep Train Graveyard
Off of the Jersey Shore, two mysterious trains rest in peace deep underwater. What it’s doing there or how it got there, archeologists are still unsure of. This is one of the oldest models of trains we know of from the 1850’s. Some believe this is the train was simply pushed off of a boat to prevent it from crashing due to a large storm. Now completely covered in rust, this machine was state of the art technology for its time but amazingly well preserved. Even the smokestacks that make this piece so unique are still visible after a century and a half have passed. The New Jersey Transportation Museum is planning on bringing this back to the surface in order to conduct research.
3. Skeleton Tea Party
The Scuba divers who decided to swimming in the Colorado River spotted a bone chilling discovery. While diving at the bottom of the river, they discovered a few skeletons dressed up in wigs and sunglasses. One even had a sign that said Bernie Although the skeletons weren’t real, the diver who discovered them thought they were and called the authorities immediately. Arizona police knew they were. They realized Bernie was reference to the “weekend at Bernies” movie where people carried their dead boss around the beach pretending he was alive. The cops thought it was funny and they put them outside the station for a good laugh.
2. Radioactive Aircraft Carrier
A world war 2 aircraft carrier has recently been uncovered off the coast of San Francisco and the cargo it was carrying is quite deadly. Hundreds of barrels of radioactive waste are still located within. It’s also in quite remarkable condition as if it’s ready to go to battle. Luckily the radioactive waste is not contaminating the ocean according to nuclear scientists. The fact that this aircraft is holding tons of toxic material right off the coast of an American city is quite astounding. There is still visible damage
1.Spanish Armada Treasure
The Spanish had an extraordinary navy that was feared among many countries. With the discovery of the new world and the plunder from their colonies lead to large amounts of treasure being transported back home to Spain. Unfortunately for them, not all these galleons and transport boats survived the journey. In this case, a hurricane destroyed a large fleet of boats that were sailing from Havana, Cuba to Spain that was carrying an estimated 400 million dollars worth of treasure. 300 years later, a family in Florida came across a rare discovery and it made them millionaires in the process. 175 million dollars worth was recovered. Of course, the Florida government will take their share of the plunder but the family will hold on to 51 rare coins and other priceless artifacts.
