The Immigration Attorney Keeping Families Together
By most accounts, living in Georgia as an undocumented immigrant is exceptionally difficult. The state is notorious for having some of the strictest immigration laws in the country. But in the face of hopelessness, immigration attorney Pamela Peynado Stewart is there, ready to fight till the end. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City, Pamela witnessed firsthand the struggles families undergo when their loved ones are detained and deported. After witnessing the conditions her uncle faced while held by ICE at Georgia’s Stewart Detention Center, Pamela was fueled to attend law school. At 29, she became the youngest and only female partner in the history of her firm. Today, she works tirelessly defending the rights and the dignity of thousands of immigrants across the country.

New York City Sheriff Deputy Responding To A Police Involved Shooting In The Bronx, New York
Breaking News-2 Dead, and 10 People Shot In Empire State Shooting(News Friday#10)
Gunner was Jeffery Johnson
A disgruntled former apparel designer was killed Friday in a hail of police gunfire in front of the Empire State Building when he shot and killed a co-worker and engaged in a gun battle with two officers, authorities said.
At least eight others were wounded in the incident as the officers unloaded 14 rounds at the gunman who apparently turned his weapon against them in one of Manhattan's busiest neighborhoods.
The violence erupted just as visitors began to queue up to ascend the famous New York skyscraper.
Police identified the shooter as 58-year-old Jeffrey Johnson, who was apparently laid off from his job as a designer of women's accessories at Hazan Imports last year.

Visiting Empire State Building, Skyscraper in New York City, New York · Manhattan
The Empire State Building is a 102-story[7][8][9][note 2] skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, on Fifth Avenue between West 33rd and 34th Streets. It has a roof height of 1,250 feet (381 m), and with its antenna spire included, it stands a total of 1,454 feet (443 m) high.[7] Its name is derived from the nickname for New York, the Empire State. It stood as the world's tallest building for nearly 40 years, from its completion in early 1931 until the topping out of the original World Trade Center's North Tower in late 1970.[14] Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, the Empire State Building was again the tallest building in New York, until One World Trade Center reached a greater height in April 2012.[15] The Empire State Building is currently the fifth-tallest completed skyscraper in the United States and the 29th-tallest in the world. It is also the fifth-tallest freestanding structure in the Americas. When measured by pinnacle height, it is the fourth-tallest building in the United States. For more info, visit this link:

SCANNER AUDIO - NYPD POLICE SHOOT-OUT !! -
The New York City Police Department was established in May 1845, which along with the Boston Police Department, was among the first modern police forces in the United States. At the time, New York City's population of 320,000 was served by an archaic force, consisting of one night watch, one hundred city marshals, thirty-one constables, and fifty-one police officers. Peter Cooper, at request of the Common Council, drew up a proposal to create a police force of 1,200 officers. John Watts de Peyster was an early advocate of implementing military style discipline and organization to the force. The state legislature approved the proposal which authorized creation of a police force on May 7, 1844, along with abolition of the nightwatch system. Under Mayor William Havemeyer, the NYPD was reorganized on May 13, 1845, with the city divided into three districts, with courts, magistrates, and clerks, and station houses set up. The NYPD was closely modeled after the Metropolitan Police Service in London, which in turn used a military-like organizational structure, with rank and order.
In 1857, a new Metropolitan police force was established and the Municipal police abolished. The Metropolitan police bill consolidated the police in New York, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Westchester County (which then included The Bronx), under a governor-appointed board of commissioners. Mayor Fernando Wood and the Municipals, unwilling to be abolished, resisted for several months.
Throughout the years, the NYPD has been involved with a number of riots in New York City. In July 1863, the New York State Militias were absent to aid Union troops, when the 1863 Draft Riots broke out, leaving the police who were outnumbered to quell the riots. The Tompkins Square Riot occurred on January 13, 1874 when police crushed a demonstration involving thousands of unemployed in Tompkins Square Park.Newspapers, including The New York Times, covered numerous cases of police brutality during the latter part of the 19th century. Cases often involved officers beating suspects and persons, using clubs, who were drunk or rowdy, posed a challenge to officers' authority, or refused to move along down the street. Most cases of police brutality occurred in poor immigrant neighborhood, including Five Points, the Lower East Side, and Tenderloin.
Beginning in the 1870s, politics and corruption of Tammany Hall, a political machine supported by Irish immigrants infiltrated the NYPD, which was used as political tool, with positions awarded by politicians to loyalists. Many officers and leaders in the police department took bribes from local businesses, overlooking things like illegal liquor sales. Police also served political purposes such as manning polling places, where they would turn a blind eye to ballot box stuffing and other acts of fraud.
The Lexow Committee was established in 1894 to investigate corruption in the police department. The committee made reform recommendations, including the suggestion that the police department adopt a civil service system. Around the turn of the century, the NYPD began to professionalize under leadership of then Police Commissioner, Theodore Roosevelt. The NYPD also began to emphasize training, and took advantage of technological innovations such as fingerprinting.
The economic downturn of the 1970s led to some extremely difficult times for the city. The Bronx, in particular, was plagued by arson, and an atmosphere of lawlessness permeated the city. In addition, the city's financial crisis led to a hiring freeze on all city departments, including the NYPD, from 1976 to 1980.
This was followed by the crack epidemic of the late 1980s and early 1990s that was one factor that caused the city's homicide rate to soar to an all-time high. By 1990, New York set a record of 2,262 murders, a record that has yet to be broken by any US major city. Petty thefts associated with drug addiction were also increasingly common.
NYPD releases video from police shooting of Brooklyn man
New York City police have released surveillance video and partial 911 calls related to the fatal police shooting of a Brooklyn man on Wednesday. Saheed Vassell was waving a metal pipe that several witnesses thought was a gun.

Buffalo, New York Ranked 10th Most Dangerous City in United States of America WGRZ
Buffalo Ranked 10th Most Dangerous City
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Forbes online has ranked the Queen City the tenth most dangerous in America.
The ranking was recently published on the business magazine's website and puts Buffalo in similar company with other struggling rust-belt cities like Baltimore and Cleveland.
According to the ranking, Buffalo has about 1,238 incidents of violent crime per 100,000 resident. The site also mentions that even though crime has been falling since the 1990s, a high level of poverty city-wide makes it difficult to keep the numbers down.
City officials have been touting a lower murder rate in recent years. In 2010, Buffalo recorded 55 homicides, and in 2011 that number dropped to 35, the lowest in a decade.
However this year, according to the Buffalo Police Department, there have been 40 murders, the most recent on October 16th.
The Forbes article said that it's basing its rankings on the FBI's violent crime data, and it focuses on cities, as opposed to overall metro areas, with a population of more than 200,000 people.
Buffalo Common Councilman David Rivera, who is retired police officer said he thinks the ranking is wrong because it does not fit the with data he has seen in recent years.
RIVERA: I've been retied now five years and I remember when we had high rates of homicides, burglaries, robberies, and shooting. You don't see them. What you do see is perhaps some more high-profile cases like the killing over at ECMC or if something happens on Chippewa [Street].
REPORTER: Are you concerned that there may be a perception that the city, at least parts of it, aren't always safe?
RIVERA: Oh, absolutely. We're always worried about the perception. If something happens on Chippewa, even though it may not have the numbers, but if something does happen, it draws attention.
Last weekend, three people were shot, one of them fatally, around 4 a.m. off Chippewa Street. Councilman Rivera said the best thing the city can do is give police all of the resources they need and tell the public when police solve the crimes.
We did try to speak to the mayor about the Forbes ranking. His spokesperson said the mayor has been out of the office for the last few days. We'll be sure to ask the mayor about it when he returns.

10. Mid of church bell ringing for each of the victims
STORYLINE:
Friends and relatives of 13 people killed during an attack at an immigrant services centre in Binghamton, New York, held an impromptu memorial service on Sunday at the scene of the shooting.
Police were still notifying families of those killed on Friday by 41-year-old Jiverly Wong, a Vietnamese immigrant, who, officials say, was apparently upset about losing his job at a vacuum cleaner plant and about people picking on him for his limited English.
The memorial was held on Sunday at the First Congregational Church, next door to the scene of the shooting.
The church's bell was rung 14 times for each victim and once for Wong.
One family remembered victim Lan Ho, 39, who came to America from Vietnam two years ago with her husband, Long Huynh.
They were taking English classes at the centre when she was killed, and her husband seriously injured.
Long Huynh's sister, Tina Nguyen, said her brother, who was still in hospital, knew that his wife had died in the attack.
Reverend Arthur Suggs said although the community had been shaken by the attack, local residents would pull together to overcome the tragedy.
The process of notifying families of the victims has been slowed by the many languages the victims spoke and their far-flung homelands.
Four Chinese were among those killed, and a Chinese student was also shot in the arm and leg but survived, officials said.
The other victims came from Haiti (two), Pakistan (one), the Philippines (one), Iraq (one), Brazil (one), Vietnam (two, including the gunman) and the United States (two).
Authorities were still trying to piece together a motive for the attack, unsure whether Wong had a particular target.
Wong had been taking classes at the Civic Association, which teaches English to immigrants and helps them prepare for citizenship tests.
Wong used two handguns, a 9 mm and a .45-calibre, for which he had obtained a permit more than a decade ago.

Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley Shoots TWO New York Police Officers To Death
2 NYPD police officers 'assassinated'; shooter dead (CNN, Dec 21, 2014)
Officer Rafael Ramos sat in the driver's seat. Officer Wenjian Liu was at his side. The two cops weren't at their usual precinct -- normally, the pair was assigned to downtown Brooklyn, but they were working a critical response detail in an area with higher crime, police said.
That's where they were slain, ambush-style -- Saturday afternoon as they sat in their patrol car, New York Police Commissioner William Bratton said at an evening news conference. The gunman approached the passenger side of the patrol car and took a shooting stance, witnesses told police. He opened fire several times, striking both officers in the head, Bratton said.
They were shot and killed with no warning, no provocation, Bratton told reporters. They were quite simply, assassinated. The gunman was found dead in a nearby subway station from a self-inflicted gunshot wound....
BREAKING: Here’s the Past Arrest Record of The Brooklyn Cop Killer (gotnews, Dec 20, 2014)
Brinsley was charged with possession of marijuana, simple battery, and terroristic threats, according to this arrest record. New York press has already confirmed the name though varying spellings seem to be a problem...
Two NYPD officers 'assassinated' while sitting in patrol car in Brooklyn by gunman who boasted on Instagram about 'revenge' killing cops (GRAPHIC IMAGES) (nydailynews, Dec 20, 2014)
Two NYPD cops were executed Saturday after a suspected gang member from Baltimore trekked to Brooklyn to kill police officers in a twisted bid to avenge the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, sources told the Daily News. The shooter — identified as Ismaaiyl Brinsley— boasted about wanting to murder cops in the hours before he ambushed the officers outside the Tompkins Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 2:45 p.m. — around the same time Baltimore officers sent a wanted flier to the NYPD.
“I’m Putting Wings On Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours...Let’s Take 2 of Theirs,” Brinsley, 28, wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of a silver handgun. He also included the sick hashtags: #ShootThePolice #RIPErivGarner #RIPMike Brown. “This May Be My Final Post...I’m Putting Pigs In A Blanket.”....
Man who executed two cops shot his girlfriend in Baltimore then traveled to New York and BRAGGED on Instagram that he was going to get revenge for Eric Garner and Mike Brown before launching deadly attack and finally killing himself (dailymail, Dec 21, 2014)
This is the man who shot dead two police officers in a sickening act of revenge for the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, 28, shot his former girlfriend in Baltimore County at 5.45am on Saturday morning then traveled 190 miles to Brooklyn where he fired a fatal round of bullets at recently-married officer Wenjian Liu and father-of-one Rafael Ramos - before turning the gun on himself. According to witnesses, Brinsley walked out of a home with a gun in his hand at 2.47pm, crept up behind the officers' patrol car, and systematically shot both men in the head through the passenger window. He then walked to the Myrtle/Willoughby G train subway station where he shot himself in the head.
It came two hours after he posted a picture of a gun on Instagram with the chilling message: 'I'm Putting Wings On Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours... Let's Take 2 of Theirs #ShootThePolice #RIPErivGardner (sic) #RIPMikeBrown. This May Be My Final Post. I'm Putting Pigs In A Blanket.' Tragically, Baltimore police had tried to apprehend Brinsley by alerting the NYPD after his morning shooting - but by the time a wanted flyer was issued, his attack was already under way.
