The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help (Champion Shrine) located in Champion, WI, is the only Church approved Marian Apparition site in the United States. The Blessed Mother appeared here on October 9th, 1859 to Adele Brise, a young Belgian immigrant woman, instructing her to gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they should know for salvation.
12 years later, on October 8th, 1871 a devastating Midwestern drought caused an inferno of fire, which ravaged the area surrounding the Shrine. Nearby neighbors fled to the Shrine for refuge, praying the rosary all night long as the fires burned the fence line of the grounds. On the morning of the Apparition Anniversary on October 9th, there was a downpour that vanquished the fire, saving the lives of those who had gathered there. This has been remembered as the Great Miracle of the 1871 Fire.

New Franken, WI, located just outside of Green Bay, is home to the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, the only Marian apparition site approved by the Catholic Church in the United States.
It is there in 1859 that the Virgin Mary came to Sister Adele Brise and gave her a specific mission:
Gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they should know for salvation. Teach them their catechism, how to sign themselves with the sign of the Cross, and how to approach the sacraments; that is what I wish you to do.
Inspired by the faith of Sister Adele, people continue to live out the instruction she received from Mary by educating children in the faith. Funds raised by the Walk to Mary will be used to support Catholic education.

Spiritual Wisconsin – Wisconsin’s Marian Shrines
From a towering, hilltop basilica, to a stunning shrine nestled in the bluffs, and a quiet chapel in the countryside, Wisconsin is home to three incredibly unique and reverent Marian shrines. Mariah heads to Holy Hill just outside of Milwaukee where she visits with the Carmelite friars who call the shrine home and climbs to the top of the steeple for a stunning view of the Kettle Moraine. She also joins the Bike to Mary pilgrimage, a 200-mile bike trip from Holy Hill to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse.
Jake continues on to Our Lady of Guadalupe, where he takes in the shrine’s stunning architecture, explores the 100-acre grounds and learns all about the traditions surrounding the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Jake then heads to the Green Bay area to visit the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. The shrine is located on the spot where Mary, the mother of Jesus, is said to have appeared to a young woman in 1859 – the only Marian apparition in the United States that has been approved by the Catholic church. Our Lady of Good Help: Prayer Book for Pilgrims by Fr. Edward Looney
In 1859, the Virgin Mary appeared as the Queen of Heaven to Adele Brise, a 28-year-old Belgian immigrant living in Northeast Wisconsin. Today, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help commemorates this Marian apparition—the only approved apparition to have taken place on United States soil.
One need not visit Lourdes or Fatima to pray at the site of a Marian apparition. The Mother of God has blessed our own country with her presence. More Catholics, especially American Catholics, need to know what happened in Wisconsin, to learn its message, and to enter into a time of prayer.

General Douglas MacArthur Memorial at Soldiers Walk Memorial Park in Arcadia Wisconsin
To the left of the Eisenhower statue and memorial is a memorial to General Douglas MacArthur. a 5 star General and commander of the Pacific forces in WW 2
Douglas MacArthur was born at the Little Rock Army Barracks in Arkansas, where he began his life of discipline with the United States Army. His parents were Civil War hero Lt. General Arthur MacArthur and Mary Pinkney Hardy MacArthur. Douglas would grow up to be a highly intelligent, heroic, egotistical and controversial five-star general.
Young Douglas soon learned that a MacArthur must first become a scholar and gentleman. At the age of six, Douglas transferred with his family to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, then three years later to Washington, D.C., where his father, Captain MacArthur took a post in the War Department.
MacArthur began his education at the West Texas Military Academy in 1893, and gained many valuable intellectual skills. He received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1898. After four years, Douglas finished at West Point first in his 93-person class.
In 1904, MacArthur was promoted to first lieutenant for excellence achieved while working in the Philippines with the Army Corps of Engineers. Because of his service there, he soon found himself touring Asia with his father.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt named MacArthur commander of all U.S. Army forces in the Far East in July 1941. While preparing the U.S. military for the Philippine islands` full independence (scheduled for 1946), MacArthur would soon find out just how cunning and powerful the Japanese could be in the Pacific.
MacArthur was promoted to five-star general of the army in December 1944. In April 1945, he took command of all American army forces in the Pacific. On August 14 of that year, President Harry S. Truman announced the Japanese assent to the Allied surrender terms, and made MacArthur supreme commander of the Allied Powers.
It became MacArthur`s job to receive the surrender — and to rule Japan. The Japanese surrender took place aboard the battleship Missouri on September 2, 1945.
