Omsk Dormition Cathedral, Omsk (Russia) - Travel Guide
Take a tour of Omsk Dormition Cathedral in Omsk, Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
A striking feature of the city of Omsk, in southern Russia, is the grand and colorful Dormition Cathedral.
This structure boasts a gleaming white exterior and shiny blue and gold domes, typical of Russian architecture.
These features add to the majesty of the cathedral as both a place of worship and historical monument.
The original Dormition Cathedral was built in the late nineteenth century, designed in the Russian Revival Style.
However, when the Soviets came to power, they destroyed this and many other Russian churches as part of their Communist agenda.
Fortunately, the Omsk Dormition Cathedral was recently rebuilt, to forever regain its beauty and history.
How did ISLAM Spread to RUSSIA? - KJ Vids
How did ISLAM Spread to RUSSIA? - KJ Vids
According to early Arab sources, Islam first entered the territory of modern Russia in the seventh century.
In 737 C.E. the Muslim army achieved a victory over the Khazar Kingdom, the strongest military power in the region.
The army was led by general Marwan, who later became Marwan II the last caliph of the Umayyad dynasty.
With the success of Marwan II, the Northern Caucasus, as well as the lower Volga region became a part of the Umayyad Empire.
The first autonomous Muslim region in Russia was the Bulghar Kingdom in the Middle Volga region.
The ruler of the Bulghar, Bin Salki Belekvar, requested the Abbasid caliph, al-Muqtadir, to dispatch Islamic scholars to teach Islam.
This autonomous state existed from the eighth century until its invasion by the Mongols in 1236 C.E.
The next wave of the spread of Islam in Russia took place during the Golden Horde province of the Chenghizid Empire.
Under the rule of Uzbek Khan (1312-42), Islam became the official religion of the entire kingdom ran by the Volga Bulghar.
The territories of Christian subjects, such as the Russians, Armenians, Circassians and Crimean Greeks paid the jizyah.
These vassal states were never forced into the Golden Horde and were able to preserve their religion under Muslim rule.
But the political status of Islam was due to be reversed drastically in the region by the mid-sixteenth century.
The newly-established mighty Russian state under the Ivan IV (the Terrible), invaded the Kazan and Astra khan states.
Over the next three centuries, Russia expanded into Muslim-inhabited lands of Siberia, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
In 1859, Muslims of Dagestan lost their country to Tsarist Russia after 34 years of resistance under Imam Shamil (1797-1871).
The Russian victory had a devastating impact on Caucasian Muslims. Thousands were deported to Siberia.
Hundreds of thousands more were forced to flee to the Ottoman Empire.
Russia’s conquest of Central Asia was completed in 1885. By the 20th century, Russia had over 14 million Muslims.
From then on, Muslims were faced with coercive Christianization and Russification, which was central to Moscow’s policy.
Unknown to many, Islam has a long history in Russia. Today there remains16-20 million Muslims in Russia.

Novosibirsk Drone Flight: Novosibirsk (Russian: Новосиби́рск) is the third-most populous city in Russia, after Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is the most populous city in Asian Russia, with a population of 1,612,833 as of the 2018 Census, and is the administrative center of Novosibirsk Oblast as well as of the Siberian Federal District. The city is located in the southwestern part of Siberia on the banks of the Ob River adjacent to the Ob River Valley, near the large water reservoir formed by the dam of the Novosibirsk Hydro Power Plant.[20] It is split into ten districts and occupies an area of 502.1 square kilometres (193.9 sq mi). It is about 2,800 kilometres (1,700 mi) east from Moscow, 600 kilometres (370 mi) east from Omsk, 1,400 kilometres (870 mi) east from Yekaterinburg, and 645 kilometres (401 mi) west of Krasnoyarsk. // Novosibirsk is a city in Siberia, southern Russia, bisected by the Ob River. The Trans-Siberian Railway fueled much of the citys 19th-century growth, symbolized by the Novosibirsk Rail Bridge, which still stands today. In the city center is the 19th-century, Byzantine-style Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, with its golden domes. 02 - Trip in Russia during winter (Transiberian)
Petit résumé de notre mois passé en Russie. De Saint-Petersbourg à Noël en passant par Moscou pour le nouvel an, nous avons pris le transibérien pour nous emmener à Irkoutsk pour voir son magnifique lac Baikal gelé.
Russia - Transsiberian Dream
And here is the last step of Kodamasia17: crossing all Russia, from East to West, from time zone to time zone, from culture to culture, in the legendary Transsiberian. This was a childhood dream for both of us and what we can say is that we were not disappointed AT ALL. Being in this train is something completely unique. You feel like travelling between time and space, in a parallel dimension. Waking up, reading, taking a nap, looking by the window, taking a second nap, eating, playing cards, watching a movie, sleeping, eating, taking a break outside… again and again. People tend to think that staying in the train for more than 30 hours is hard, but to me, it was the best part of our trip. You constantly meet people, think, learn about yourself, and learn about this great country that is Russia. So here is what we did during these 19 days.
After having visited Irkutsk and the Baikal Lake, we took the train for 41 hours to visit Omsk, a Siberian city, near the Kazakh border. This city is a typical Siberian city: people swimming in the river during summer, animations in the street during sunny days, and a big cathedral at the middle of it (The Assumption Cathedral).
Then, we took the train for 36 hours and went to Kazan: back in Europe after 7 months. Kazan is a city located in the autonomous Republic of Tatarstan, and the culture there is special. It’s a Muslim Republic, and we really felt that it was different from other places we visited: food, language, architecture. The Qolşärif Mosque is the most impressive one I’ve ever seen. We also visited the Soviet Times Life museum, it’s the only one in Russia. Authentic objects from Soviet Union were there and we could use them, try clothes… I recommend it for every person who would travel to Kazan and is interested about history. World Cup will take place there, good occasion to go! We’ve been lucky to be there during Tatarstan National Day, everyone was celebrating it and we assisted to a sick firework on the river.
Finally, the last step of our journey: going to Moscow. 13 hours of night train from Kazan. The best city I visited in the last 7 months. We had the best guides there to show us how you can enjoy Moscow’s life in the summer. The Kremlin, The Red Square, magnificent parks, markets, street art district, theatres, historic buildings and monuments… this city is just awesome. And CRAZY big. 25 times Paris. Moscow is amazing during the summer, you can feel that people are enjoying the warm days before winter comes. Directly knew I would come back one day, this city is just damn too cool. And we are so thankful to our guides team without who it wouldn’t have been so good.
Almost time to fly “home” as I decided on the last minute to go to St Petersburg. And what a wise choice. 4 hours of high speed train from Moscow to go there. It’s from far the most beautiful city I’ve ever visited. Like Venice, Amsterdam or Bruges, this city is constructed on the water. There are more monuments there than normal buildings. 3 days was totally enough to see the greatness of this city.
And it finally came. Time to go home, and to be honest, not happy about it. Kodamasia17 has been a crazy adventure and it couldn’t have been any better. Realized many of my dreams there and I’m so thankful to all the people who made it so perfect: THANK YOU.
To sum up, it started perfectly with Taiwan, the most welcoming country I visited. Mongolia was the craziest and most beautiful experience ever, and Russia was a perfect conclusion, in such and interesting country.
And I am also thankful to L’Esc@le, Sèvres, who allowed me this scholarship which helped me making all of this possible.
When travelling you learn a lot about people, the world, and yourself. And you also realize that you never really know what future is made of. Life is sometimes unexpected, and I’m in an appropriate position to say that as… I’m moving to Moscow for 6 months in 2018 !
And as Kodama’s will be there once again to help me find my way, I can say that Kodamasia18 is to be continued …

This is the Second video of Day-10 of my Russian trip in which you will see me exploring the Altai Mountains, the unexplored part of beautiful Russia. I managed to reach Onguday with the help of a lovely elderly couple. After that, I got a lift in another car from Onguday to Geyzernoye Ozero, a place near Aktach. I stayed with Dima and Tanya in a log hut in Geyzernoye Ozero. We all paid 500 Rubles each for a night. Interestingly that was the coldest night of my trip. The temperature dipped to almost -10-degree Celsius. More details -

Kazan: Most Surprising City in Russia // Trans-Siberian Vlog 3
FREE Airbnb CREDIT:
Beautiful Kazan was the very first stop on my Trans-Siberian adventure and it might well have been the most surprising.
While I had heard good things about this city, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, I was blown away by the liveliness of the city, the friendliness of the people and the beauty of the buildings and architecture.
If you are planning a trip to Russia or are travelling on the Trans-Siberian, I HIGHLY recommend you stop off in this gorgeous city for a day or two, and be sure to say hi to my new bartender friends in 1920, Mr Willard and off course More! What a cool city.

Siberia Being Developed! Far-Flung Region of Tofalaria Receives Electricity For First Time!
Subscribe to Vesti News
We have lots of political news as well today, but we'll continue with a particular topic from this Saturday about ordinary people in Tofalaria. It sounds like a mysterious country somewhere abroad, but no, it's a small, yet distant, region in Russia. Among Siberian mountains and forests, one of the smallest Russian peoples lives there — the Tofalars. And now, after the recent flood stable electricity supply has appeared in their homelands.
