THE FLORIDA KEYS - HUGE Grouper!! Mahi Mahi Fishing Hogfish Tuna Lobster Manatees and great music!
Please join us for a week long excursion with Captain Jake to the Florida Keys brought to you by Wildman Warehouse and Strictly Business Fishing Team. We spent the week fishing for Grouper and Mahi Mahi. Once we find the fish we jump in the water to film the hunt.
Check us out on Facebook at Bon Temps Charters to plan your trip! I would love to help you with planning your trip even if you don't want to hire us to guide you around for a week. I love the outdoors and the outdoor enthusiast and I will answer any questions I can to help you get your adventure started. That is why i created this channel. I want to share the outdoors with my friends and family and everyone including future generations. Lets protect what we have so we can hand it to our children intact. Love for hunting breeds respect for habitat which always eventually leads to a conservative view on harvest and most outdoors men will leave their favorite hunting grounds in better condition than they found them. For instance you can see Mahi John pulling some string and trash out of a grass patch as an afterthought after gaffing a nice Mahi.
Every year we travel to the Florida Keys to explore a new territory and we amost never stay on the same island twice. This trip includes fishing out of Islamirada - Key Largo - and Jupiter (for the Jewfish). There were hundreds of Goliath Groupers under our boat just off the coast on Jupiter and it is no secret where they congregate. This is one of the largest congregations of Goliath Grouper in the world every summer during the spawn which lasts most of July and into August I believe.
The mahi mahi fishing was incredible in the florida keys this year. We trolled - live baited - and speared several everyday. I have to put in a plug for tormentor tackle as the mini tuna darts never missed a fish. Pink is my personal favorite. We have fished out of Big Pine Key, Summerland Key, Cudjoe Key and all of the middle islands. We have yet to find an island we do not love and every one for a different reason. I could go on for miles but youtube restricts the description to a few hundred words. Ask me anything in the comments and i would love to help you plan your next vacation as your captain or just pointing you in the right direction.

KEYS AFTER IRMA - 6 WEEKS LATER - ALLIGATOR REEF, SOMBRERO REEF, HIGHWAY 1
Vacationed in Florida Keys October 15-24. We found no RV parks that would be open before next year except Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge. They will be open by Thanksgiving. Because of that we had to find alternative places to launch the boat. The 1st place was one mile south of Bud N' Mary's Marina. This gives you a straight shot to Alligator Reef. The 2nd place was the put-in at 33rd street in Marathon beside the Yacht Club. You must travel 2 miles to the bridge but then it is a straight shot to Sombrero Reef. The 3rd place is Spanish Harbor about 1 mile before Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge. It is not a straight shot to Looe Key but close. The 4th place is Little Torch Key off State Rd 4A - 2nd right. This is a put-in directly off the road, no circle and very little parking. We did not use this one but it is now open. (Side note - if you have a canoe or kayak Sammy's Creek is open). We visited Looe Key Reef but did not take pictures due to low visibility the day we were there. We dry camped at K-Mart in Marathon and a church parking lot. Some lodging was open. We were told Key West was completely cleaned up but we did not visit there. Most restaurants were open although some were only taking cash.

Mound Key Archaeological State Park
Framed in forests of mangrove trees, the shell mounds and ridges of Mound Key rise more than 30 feet above the waters of Estero Bay.
Prehistoric Native Americans are credited with creating this island's complex of mounds with an accumulation of seashells, fish bones, and pottery.
Mound Key is believed to have been the ceremonial center of the Calusa Indians when the Spaniards first attempted to colonize Southwest Florida.
In 1566, the Spanish governor of Florida established a settlement on the island with a fort and the first Jesuit mission in the Spanish New World. The settlement was abandoned three years later after violent clashes with the Indians.
The only access to the island is by boat; there are no facilities. Interpretive displays can be found along a trail that spans the width of the island. Located in Estero Bay, several miles by boat from Koreshan State Historic Site or Lovers Key State Park.

Rare Shark Feeding Frenzy in North Carolina
On Thursday, October 9 at around noon, while at a retreat at Cape Lookout National Seashore off the coast of North Carolina, the leaders of One Harbor Church witnessed a shark feeding frenzy. The men were out fishing for the evening’s dinner when they stumbled across more than 100 sharks attacking a school of blue fish. As seagulls and pelicans joined in on the meal, the men began to cast into the surf, catching fish without the use of bait. For more than five minutes, the sharks were observed swimming in and out of the surf, some of which became beached in the fury. Donnie Griggs, the cameraman who captured the footage, is an avid waterman who spearfishes, dives, swims and surfs at Cape Lookout often. We want it to be clear that Cape Lookout and the surrounding beaches of Eastern North Carolina are extremely safe for swimming. The presence of these sharks and large schools of fish is actually a sign of a very healthy ecosystem.

*GRAPHIC* SHARK BITES SPEARFISHERMAN IN FLORIDA KEYS
Check out our new video from a few recent trips!
Follow me @parketsimon on Instagram for more spearfishing and dive content!
The short clip of me getting bit by a 7-8ft reef shark. We were spearfishing near Middle Sambos reef off Boca Chica in the Florida Keys when this shark came up behind us.
He first went at my dive buddy Justyn but immediately turned toward me. He first bit my left fin then took a piece out of the right fin before biting my leg and cutting the speargun line. I assumed he was trying to steal the black grouper I was holding but, after I lost the grouper and watched it swim to the bottom, the shark kept coming at us! Justyn went back down for my gun and actually shoved it in the sharks mouth! The shark then took it straight to the bottom while we rushed back to the boat and safety. Always dive with a buddy and someone who is trained in first aid! I would not have made it back to the boat without the help of another strong swimmer and would have bled out had we not been able to apply proper first aid immediately. The shark tore through the skin, fat tissue, muscle sheath, muscle, and unfortunately my tibial artery which caused me to lose more than a liter of blood.
This clearly could have been much worse! Happy to still have my leg even with a piece missing! And we even got my Koah speargun back!!!
