Silverton, Colorado during the Hardrockers Holiday 2013 HQ
This video is Dedicated to Tiffany-Shaun Wilkins for sharing their weekend during the Hardrockers Holiday and giving me the opportunity to ride my mountain bike in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Shaun said that pictures don't do it justice and he's right but sometimes I need reminders of where I've been. So on that cool morning in August I took all the mental pictures I could while riding through the beautiful streets of this turn of this century mining town looking into the thin layers of clouds across the backdrop of the beautiful mountains wanting to capture every minute during my 6 mile route.
Silverton Colorado Saves its Newspaper
In these times of newspaper closings and sales, the Silverton Standard & the Miner has gotten a reprieve. When the owner of the Colorado newspaper, which has been part of the community for more than a century, decided to close it, the editor came up with an unusual idea: Ask the local historical society to take over the paper. And the society did, saving the Standards rich history and connection to the people it serves.

Silverton, Colorado, Steam Engine Locomotive arrives with guest from Durango, Colorado
While camping in Ouray Colorado we did a day trip across the Million Dollar Highway to the town of Silverton Colorado.
In this video we will be taking you to Silverton, Colorado an Old Wild West Mining Town, population 629 in 2013. Silverton is one of the highest towns in the United States, at 9,318 feet (2,836 m) above sea level. ( Silver by the Ton ) Silverton supposedly got it's name from hauling Tons of Silver from the mines around it.
First you will see the Old Narrow Gauge Railroad, Steam Engine arriving with guest from Durango, Colorado.
Then we will take you inside the Old Jail which is a museum now. I love visiting Old Jails and Prisons but there kind of Creepy to me. Message me and let me know if you feel the same.
Then we will take you on one of the best underground mining tours, which is now a Museum that you have ever seen. Two thumbs up for the town of Silverton and everyone else involved for doing such a great job at preserving the History.
We really hope you enjoy the video if so, Please Subscribe and Share with your friends and don't forget to watch in HD.
Thanks for Watching.

Red Mountain Town Colorado - Abandoned Ghost Town
Red Mountain Town is a bit of an enigma and is a hard Ghost Town to identify. The final resting place of Red Mountain Town is equal distance between Oury and Silverton Colorado off of U.S. Highway 550. However; the Abandoned town was moved once and burnt twice. Meaning you can find a few versions of Red Mountain Town. The Denver Times described the town by saying “Red Mountain was the mecca for all who were allured into the San Juan by the fickle goddess of fortune.”
The original town was settled in 1879 when a group of silver deposits were found nearby. At that time it was a small mining camp and went by the name of Sky City. The camp was below the National Belle Mine; however, it would later be relocated. This is because the residents of Sky City first built their camp in wintertime when the ground was frozen solid. Once spring came around the townsite became swampy, fly-infested, and messy.

Colorado Big Snow Winter 2018 2019
The 2018-2019 winter in Colorado set many records. It was the worst avalanche season in history, with major avalanches closing highways and passes, sweeping away motorists, and skiers, and taking out wide swaths of forest from slopes where slides were previously unknown.
Most Colorado ski areas reported snow base depth over 100 inches in March. Wolf Creek had more than 200 inches of snow. Locations in the San Juan Range had more than 900 inches of snow this season, and many other locations had 600 to 800 inches of snow fall. Average is about 400 inches of snow fall.
It made up the difference from the catastrophic drought winter of 2017-2018. Newton Themodynamic law? Equal and opposite reaction? In back to back years... uh...er... well...
Many mountain routes will have snow problems all summer and beyond. Some trail heads will be closed indefinitely until avalanche snow melts, and access damage can be repaired. CDOT plowed 40-60 foot snow depths off Red Mountain Pass, and the Silverton-Durango Narrow Gauge Railroad is clearing even more from avalanche chutes crossing its tracks.
Amazing year.

ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on YouTube, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

US Highway 160 - Hesperus - Durango - Colorado | Drive America's Highways ????
???? Drive America's Highways for 11 miles east along the San Juan Skyway (US-160) from State Highway 140 Hesperus to U.S. Highway 550 (The Million Dollar Highway) in Durango, Colorado ⛰️
The San Juan Skyway is an All-American Road and a component in the Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway System. It forms a 233.0-mile (375.0 km) loop in the southwest part of the U.S. state of Colorado traversing the heart of the San Juan Mountains. It roughly parallels the routes of the narrow gauge railways: Rio Grande Southern (US 160, SH 145 and SH 62); and the unconnected Ouray and Silverton Branches of the Denver & Rio Grande along US 550 with the Silverton Railroad bridging a part of the gap. Its origin can be traced to the Around the Circle Route promoted by the D&RG. --Wikipedia
