Nestled in southwestern Colorado, Silverton was originally a mecca for mining silver. Nowadays, the small town sees some of the state’s greatest snowfall and hosts some of its wildest terrain. It’s a tiny town, rough around the edges, with colorful characters and a mountain defined by its single chairlift and expert-only skiing and riding. With technically the entire mountain considered out-of-bounds, professional skiers George Rodney and Ty Peterson discover some of the deepest stashes in Line of Descent.
Mountain Collective Roadtrip: Episode 3 - Silverton Mountain Colorado
My brother and I took 3 months of the 2016 winter season and traveled to all 9 Mountain Collective resorts on the West Coast of the United States and Canada while living out of a truck bed camper. This video is the third episode of the series where we visit Silverton Mountain Colorado after waiting almost a week for a storm to come in. With its single chairlift and expert hiking only accessible terrain, Silverton Mountain was one of the few non Mountain Collective resorts that we decided to visit on our route. This video is Dedicated to Tiffany-Shaun Wilkins for sharing their weekend during the Hardrockers Holiday and giving me the opportunity to ride my mountain bike in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Shaun said that pictures don't do it justice and he's right but sometimes I need reminders of where I've been. So on that cool morning in August I took all the mental pictures I could while riding through the beautiful streets of this turn of this century mining town looking into the thin layers of clouds across the backdrop of the beautiful mountains wanting to capture every minute during my 6 mile route.
San Juan Ski Mountaineering from Molas Pass to Sultan Mountain to Silverton
On Sunday, April 14th 2019, Peter and I committed to this mountaineering adventure. We were fully prepared with avalanche gear, proper training, and a plan for the day. The most dangerous part of the adventure was boot packing across the steep southern slope below the saddle between Grand Turk and Sultan Mountain.

This video is the second episode of the series where we stay in the truck bed camper in the Molas pass above Silverton Colorado and ride our snowmobile as we wait for the next storm system to move in. Silverton is located about 475 kilometres (300 miles) southwest of Denver at an elevation of 2,836 metres
(9,305 feet). Silverton is one of the highest towns in the United States and is half the home of the famou Durango Silverton railroad (featured in some of my other videos).

Nestled high in Colorado's stunning San Juan Mountains at 9,318 feet and formally incorporated in 1885, Silverton is a statutory Colorado municipality serving approximately 600 full-time residents along with dozens of unique businesses that cater to Silverton's many thousands of annual visitors. Silverton boasts, preserves, and celebrates a rich mining history with a storied Old West past which brings those interested in our nation's cultural heritage here on a year-round basis. In summer months, while hosting outdoor enthusiasts of every kind, Silverton also serves as the termination point for the dramatic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad excursion and we are also known world wide for our acclaimed July 4th all day celebration and fireworks. And in the winter, Silverton is becoming well-known as a world-class alpine sport destination. The Town itself offers two wonderful amenities depending on the season. Winter visitors should plan to take advantage of the Kendall Mountain Ski Area and Recreation Center, which offers an outdoor skating rink and a single-lift ski area that is both affordable and inviting to beginners and family groups. The beautiful Kendall Mountain facility is also available for conferences and weddings every month of the year. And during late spring, summer and early autumn months, the Town operates the majestic Molas Lake Campground, located minutes from Town, but offering campers -- day or multi-day; tent or RV -- breathtaking views in every direction of the mighty San Juan terrain.
