Top 7 Things to do in Hoi An, Vietnam
We shot this Top things to do in Hoi An, Vietnam video from what has become one of our favourite locations we've visited so far. Hoi An is simply an amazing must-visit city in Vietnam. We hope this video helps you get a glimpse into as much magic as we were able to capture during our 5 night stay in Hoi An, Vietnam.
If you're planning a trip to Vietnam, it should include a visit to Hoi An Ancient Town and you definitely need to stay from day until evening because everything changes at night. From the glowing silk lanterns to the row boats slowly drifting down the river. This little Hoi An old town is simply charming. Just be prepared for the big crowds to pack in during the evening and night time.
Remember to pick up your tickets from the ticket stations located around the Hoi An Ancient Town. Once you pay for this you can visit any 5 special attractions of your choice.
Some of the ticketed attractions we visited in Hoi An Old Town were:
1. Assembly Hall Of Fujian Chinese
Address: 46 Trần Phú, Cẩm Châu, Hội An, Quảng Nam, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7am–6pm
2. Japanese Covered Bridge
Address: Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, Phường Minh An, Hội An, Quảng Nam 564010, Vietnam
3. Museum of Trade Ceramics Hoi An
80 Tran Phu St. | Minh An, Hoi An, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7am–6pm
You should also visit Hoi An Night Market in the Ancient Town. Cross the Hoi An bridge and you'll enter the night market. Much more enjoyable at night with all the boats running along and lanterns fully lit up. It is a very touristy area though so just be aware of the higher prices and crowds.
Chicken Rice Place (not sure if the Google marker/address is quite in the right place, but the shop name is Cơm Gà Hiền and the photos shown are correct in the map link!)
Cơm Gà Hiền
593 Hai Bà Trưng, Phường Minh An, Hội An, Quảng Nam 550000, Vietnam
If you're looking for a nice beach to relax in Hoi An has you covered.
There are 3 main beaches in Hoi An:
- An Bang Beach
- Tan Tanh Beach
- Cua Dai Beach
An Bang Beach will be the most busy so try Tan Tanh or Cua Dai if you're wanting more space to relax.
We also went to an ancient temple and UNESCO world heritage site called My Son Sanctuary to find out some of the amazing history of the Champa people who once lived in Vietnam. My Son Sanctuary is a must-visit when you're in Hoi An, Vietnam especially if you love history and ancient ruins.
The World Cultural Heritage My Son Sanctuary
Address: Duy Phú, Duy Xuyên District, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 6:30am–5:30pm

This picturesque town is a wonder, a beautiful example of a Southeast Asian trading port straight out of the 15th Century. Hoi An Vietnam has something for every kind of traveller: UNESCO World Heritage Sites, custom tailoring, unspoilt beaches, gourmet restaurants, traditional crafts, one of a kind attractions and much more.
Once the commercial capital of the Cham Empire, Hoi An Vietnam is now the garment centre of Vietnam. Whether you're looking for a reproduction of your favourite ensemble, an outfit clipped from fashion magazines or simply a tailored suit, Hoi An is the place to shop.

HOI AN is Not What One Can Think Of (Vietnam Vlog)
Be aware that this is simply MY OPINION about the town of Hoi An, I always pictured it like a chilled and relaxing place but what I found was pretty different.
The Best Vietnamese Food in Hoi An, Vietnam. HANDS DOWN
Vietnamese food in Central Vietnam is simply the best. Hoi An isn't known for it's culinary excellence compared to Da Nang or Hue, but there are a few amazing eateries and food you can try. This happened to be my favorite place because I've eaten here twice and each time within a six month period, it has been very consistent. The dishes I ate included shredded chicken rice, cao lau noodles, tiny clams called hen, banh vac, and banh dap.
Everything is such a speciality and localized to Hoi An. Great Meal.
I really recommend you visiting this place located at
05 Nguyen Hoang, which is that street that sells a bunch of lanterns on the other side of Hoi An across from the Japanese Bridge.

Top 10 reasons why Hoi An is Vietnam's best Travel Destination
Hoi An is a magical place and my favorite city in Vietnam.
It's beautiful old town as well as the surrounding nature are simply breathtaking. Take a few days off from reality and go back in time
to traditional vietnamese villages and white beaches. Enjoy some of the best seafood you will ever have while waiting for the tailors to finish your new dress or suit. At night the city turns into a dreamworld as thousands of lotus lanterns light up, which the Vietnamese believe bring happiness to their families. Couples release lotus lanterns into the river to manifest their love or take a romantic boat ride after strolling though an ocean of lights.
Nearby travel destinations are the amusement parks Bana Hills and Vinpearl Land (see my review video) and Da Nang.

Hoi An Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Hoi An in Vietnam.
Today it is difficult to believe that three hundred years ago the tiny dreamy harbour of Hoi An was one of the most important seaports in Vietnam. Now only small fishing boats lie at anchor in the harbour yet in former times Hoi An experienced a flourishing trade with Europe. Whether on the riverbanks of the Thu Bon, the narrow streets or the fascinating shops, Hoi An has retained the colourful atmosphere of bygone times. Life continued here as normal until in the early 1990's the tourist industry began to develop in Vietnam. The city's new found prosperity has not yet reached the entire city but it is reflected in some of its buildings. Many of the city's meeting halls, temples and homes are of typical Chinese design. Both the Quan Am Temple and the Quang-Cong Temple date back to the 17th century. Toward the end of the 17th century an increasing number of Chinese merchants settled in the city and this gave rise to the construction of several splendid meeting halls. Business relationships were cultivated in these traditional communal buildings and new friendships made, information exchanged and ancestors and gods worshipped. Once again the town is beginning to prosper and the historic ambience of this intriguing city may well mark a new beginning to the inhabitants of Hoi An.

My 2018 5-Day Travel in Hoi An, Vietnam (+Linked Itinerary)
This is actually part of my two-week solo adventure in Vietnam last June to July of 2018. It was my first going solo for the entire trip (as I usually travel with friend/s or my significant other follows me few days after).
Hoi An's Ancient Town might be small but it is packed with a lot of interesting things to do. The place itself has its own charms, you don't get to see Hoi An in the same light for both day and night. Even just strolling around the town gives you wonderful insights about their culture and heritage. Hanoi is a wonderful city with beautiful culture (food!) and rich history. This is my favorite place in Vietnam with its laidback vibe and rich heritage. Please make sure to visit Miss Lien Thao's (I think I ate 3-4 times here). Her food is authentic yet affordable.
Though the My Son Sanctuary is far from the town, I made sure that I get to visit this as well. I actually booked the My Son Sanctuary Tour via Sinh Tourist ( Beware of the fake ones. All my transactions are done online and all I have to do is to visit their physical office a day before the booked dates for verification.
If you wish to know my itinerary and budget, click this URL:
If you wish to see my vlogs for my Vietnam trip, you may check out these:
Hanoi -
Hue -
HCM -
My expenses for the entire trip exceeded beyond what I intend to spend due to my sudden flu and cold (well, I was caught in the rain so my fault, really) when I was in Hanoi and Hue. My health slowly became better when I was in Hoi An (but I made sure that I was hydrated as it was summer back then).
Music: The original video used Memories by Bensound ( however, it was tagged as copyrighted and was monetized by somebody else. Anyway, I simply replaced it with Eine Kleine Nachtmusik of Mozart (one of Youtube free songs)
I was sexually assaulted in Hoi An (please read the description)
I realise that this incident pales comparison to some people and some experiences even I've had, but it doesn't make it okay. I'm not posting this for attention or views - simply posting this as a part of my daily vlog and experience while travelling. The more people that talk about bad experiences, the more people will be aware of the dangers themselves. No matter how small it feels in hindsight, I will never not talk about my bad experiences because some people really have no idea how often they can happen.
I know they were only kids joking around but the way it made me feel then and how it still makes me feel now is no joke. This is definitely not my first experience like this and I'm sure it won't be the last, but I believe that the more we address these issues, the less alone other women (or even men) will feel if they go through something similar.
Less alienation and more support!

Hoi An, is a must stop for many travelers visiting Vietnam.
It is recognized as an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port.
In 1999, the old town was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Charming ancient temples, shrines, Chinese style tile-roofed wooden houses and a unique blend of Japanese and Chinese architecture make this place unique.
HOI AN ACCOMMODATION
Hoi An has plenty of accommodation options: homestays, hostels, hotels, luxury hotels, airbnb. Neverthless, if you are looking for a social place, Hoi An Backpackers is where you will meet other travelers.

In The Land Of The Rising Dragon (Vietnam) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Vietnam.
Vietnam is one of the most fascinating countries in South East Asia and it contains a large number of cultural treasures as well as much remarkable scenery. Due to its exceptional buildings of both past and present, as well as its magnificent natural scenery, Vietnam surprises everyone that travels to this region of Asia.. Vietnam’s former capital of Thang Long, that means ‘Rising Dragon’, is now known as Hanoi. Like all cities in South East Asia, Hanoi has an increasing traffic problem but to compensate for this it also contains several parks. Early in the morning a number of Tai Chi enthusiasts are to be found within a park that surrounds the Hoan Kiem Lake in the centre of the city. The picturesque lake and park are the green lungs of Hanoi and are a relaxing contrast to the lively atmosphere of the city and its three million inhabitants. According to ancient records the imperial area of Hué once consisted of one hundred and thirty six buildings. The rapid rise of what had once been a rather unimportant town to a new and magnificent imperial city has always been indelibly associated with Vietnam’s Nguyen royal family who were to influence the country for several centuries. Both architecturally and culturally Hoi An has been influenced by two countries, China and Japan. The influence of the Chinese is clearly visible even today and they bequeathed a large number of magnificent buildings such as temples and meeting halls. On the western shores of the Saigon River is Ho Chi Minh City, the former capital of Saigon. This, the largest and most populated city in Vietnam, has around six million inhabitants a fact well substantiated by the exceptionally busy streets of this southern metropolis. Vietnam’s people are both amicable and extremely hospitable and now it is surely time that they deserve to see their Land Of The Rising Dragon enjoy a further epoch of peace and prosperity.

Hoi An Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site. Hoi An has no airport, and no train station either. The only way to get there is by road. You can hire a taxi from the neighbouring city of Da Nang, which does have an airport with daily flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other large Vietnamese cities. There’s also a train station in Da Nang, and bus services are plentiful. We have a wide selection of hotels for you to choose from in both Cua Dai Beach and Hoi An City, whatever suits your pocket and style.

Viet Nam | Hoi An travel guide
Hoi An travle guide.
Ancient and peaceful, Hoi An is one of the most popular destinations in Vietnam that caters to travellers of all tastes and across the continents. The little town is just the perfect candidate of what Vietnam tourism ministry is aiming to show to the world.
Warm-hearted, welcoming and traditional, but never out of touch with the outside world, the people of Hoi An are in overdrive mode trying to catch up to the opportunities their new found fame has recently given them.
A History of Asian fusion.
A slow stroll through town reveals its gems. Hoi An has to this days well preserved its most sacred treasure, the centuries-old architecture. The town used to harbor foreign traders back in the 17-18th, and once is an important heavily-frequented trading port in Southeast Asia. The foreigners come from all corners of the world, but mostly are Chinese and Japanese nationalities. Some come and go, but many settle in permanently and etch their marks into the history of Hoi An.
Chùa Cầu - A popular attraction in Hoi An.
Mixing together with Vietnamese design, Chinese and Japanese accents melt and create a picture-perfect Hoi An of the late 19th century, which it has somehow remained mostly intact since. The end product is an oddly strange-yet-familiar sight that exists nowhere else in the world. To this day, few descendants of the foreign traders remain but the architectural setting manages to survive the damage of time.
Little town gathers world fame.
In 1999, UNESCO formally recognizes Hoi An as a World Heritage Site. There are the things that make up the reputation. Hoi An is home to many temples, pagodas and the ancient homes that bear its very unique mark. The density of such sites is unlike any other in Vietnam. These places carry with them the history of Hoi An itself. The depiction of its formation, its once-prosperous merchant past, its progress and how it manages to become one of today are all well documented, in words and in priceless relics.
Hoi An earned UNESCO recognition since as early as 1999.
The town is not just reminiscent of the past, it truly takes one for a slow enlightening journey to the past. Such journey is simply unthinkable most elsewhere in Vietnam. It is only possible because of the careful and dedicated works that have gone into preserving and presenting its way - efforts that have come as the result of the UNESCO recognition. Enjoying the spotlight and catering to the increasing number of tourists flooding its narrow streets hoping to catch a glimpse of the past, hotels and resorts are now sprouting up all over town.
Hoi An Accommodation and Shopping.
One shall find his accommodation options ranging from lowly affordable motel rooms as low as $8 per day to the world-class 6-star top-of-the-line allegedly-best-in Southeast-Asia Nam Hai resort nearby, which starts at a whooping $600. Vietnam may be small, but there will always be an extra bedroom for the staying- over guest. These days, the guests may well outnumber the homeowners however. True to its origin, Hoi An today still boasts a booming trade.
Nam Hai Resort amongst the most luxury in the world's hotel industry.
Of the things sold in town, there are only 3 different categories. First is souvenir, the second being clothing and the last is food, both western and Vietnamese. The souvenir is not something to write home about, since offerings are limited in diversity throughout the country. Hoi An is better known for its tailor shops, which mostly service personal bespoke orders. Tourists circulate rumor that people stay in this little sleepy town for entire weeks doing nothing, waiting just to have their shirts made to the perfect fit. Most designs are traditional Vietnamese in nature, with some offer contemporary twists and touches of foreign taste as well.
Hoi An lantern makes a perfect house deco - and inexpensive.
Coupled with the right prices, Hoi An is truly a shoppers’ paradise, one that dictates its western customers on a unique oriental sense of style. Paradox does not end. One imagines never being able to find western food in such a hardcore Vietnamese setting. That turns out not the case. Hoi An is home to multiple restaurants that serve big hearty American meals with only a small portion of the menu dedicated to local food. The locals prefer their sidewalk vendors to the many re-innovated house-turned-restaurants out there.
