Chattanooga Update - April 28, 2014
Prepare for rain, and a lot of it.
A major storm could dump 4 to 6 inches of rain in the area through Wednesday.
Flood watches are in effect for all Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia counties through Wednesday night.
The National Weather Service says we may also see strong to severe thunderstorms.
The most severe weather is expected tonight. We're looking at strong winds, possible tornadoes, flash flooding and large hail.
WRCB is also reporting a 15 percent chance of a tornado in the area.
And more severe weather is possible Tuesday evening into early Wednesday.

Investigators found a woman's body inside a car after a police chase in Franklin County.
State troopers discovered the remains of 46-year-old Bridgette Haley after stopping the car in Estill Springs on Saturday night.
The sheriff's office says the driver, 46-year-old Robert Troy Whipple, got out of the car and started to run away, but was eventually caught.
Haley's remains have been sent for an autopsy. Whipple is being held at the Franklin County Jail.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.

River City Company is buying the historic Ross Hotel in downtown Chattanooga.
The plan is to convert the abandoned building into 20 middle-class apartments.
And the bottom floor could become a bar, restaurant or some other retail space.
River City paid $1.2 million dollars for the structure.
Work to transform the building could begin - in 2015.

A 2-year-old in McMinn County is in serious condition after sniffing a pill.
Police were called to a home after a mother found her child cold to the touch, with blue lips and barely breathing.
At first the mother said none of her medications were missing, but then admitted the child had sniffed a pill.
A report from the sheriff's office calls the circumstances very suspicious.
WRCB reports that the parents could - face charges.

Chattanooga police are investigating separate Sunday shootings that left two men injured.
Police say Anthony Douglas was walking along Rawlings Street after midnight when an SUV drove up and he was shot in the left hand.
Also, around 3 p.m., Marice Manghanu told officers he had been walking in a parking lot - when he was shot in the thigh.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police.

State officials have given UTC the go-ahead to begin planning a $59 million dollar residence hall.
The new 600-bed dorm will be built where the racquetball and tennis courts are, next to McKenzie Arena.
Officials say the courts will be relocated to the Engel Stadium complex.
And UTC hopes to open the new dorm by 2017 to house freshmen.
The university also wants to acquire land along Vine Street for more housing that would help connect the campus to downtown.
There had originally been talk of building student housing at the site of the Chattanooga State Office Buildings, but now UTC is looking at short term use of those buildings for academic and administrative offices.
The university says those buildings - may still be demolished.

An elderly woman was found dead, face down in about four inches of water at Belvoir Hills Estates in East Ridge.
Police found Janet Bovell on the backside of the building.
They believe she died of natural causes and her body came to rest in the water.
A neighbor said the woman had fallen earlier the same day and was unable to get up.
According to her daughter, Bovell had recently been treated for pneumonia and also dealt with depression.

A Whitfield County firefighter has been arrested and charged with arson after he allegedly set his own home on fire.
Authorities say 40-year-old Matthew C. Gibson set fire to his house on Eber Road in Dalton on February 16th.
The fire caused more than $130,000 dollars in damage.
He could face up to 20 years in prison, and a fine of up to $50,000 dollars.

Finally, Sir Goony's Family Fun Center has remodeled its entire complex on Brainerd Road.
The entertainment center has new electric go-carts, which it says are both faster and safer than the old gas go-carts. They go up to 35 miles per hour and automatically slow down if a driver starts to lose control.
There's also a new water-tower attraction on the mini-golf course and an expanded game room.
And later this summer, Sir Goony's is adding a brand new thrill ride - called Laser Fury 360. The new attraction puts riders in vehicles that can rotate horizontally and vertically - throughout a came of laser tag.
New Chattanooga children's hospital moving forward
Erlanger is ramping up efforts to build a new women's and children's hospital in Chattanooga.
CEO Kevin Spiegel says the hospital's current facilities have been behind for 10 years.
Now he's calling for a new state-of-the art medical center to be built here in the next five to seven years.
And Erlanger has hired a renowned children's hospital expert to conduct a yearlong assessment of the project, including cost and location.
Several potential sites include the present campus, or an expansion of Erlanger East in East Brainerd, or even the Wheland Foundry site on Chattanooga's Southside.
