Beautiful Nanjing. China.
Nanjing (About this sound listen), formerly romanized as Nanking and Nankin,[3] is the city situated in the heartland of lower Yangtze River region in China, which has long been a major center of culture, education, research, politics, economy, transport networks and tourism. It is the capital city of Jiangsu province of the People's Republic of China and the second largest city in the east China region,[4] with acreage about 6600 square kilometers and a total population of 8,230,000.[5] Nanjing remains the de jure official legal capital of the Republic of China, which lost control of the mainland during the civil war in 1949. Meanwhile, Taipei serves as the provisional capital of the central government of the ROC, and controls the island of Taiwan.[6] The inner area of Nanjing enclosed by the city wall is Nanjing City (南京城), with acreage of 55 km2, while Nanjing Metropolitan Region includes surrounding cities and areas, with acreage over 60 thousand km2 and population over 30 million.Nanjing, one of the nation's most important cities for over a thousand years, is recognized as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, and had been the world's largest city aggregately for hundreds of years, enjoying peace and prosperity while with painful days of suffering wars and disasters.

Nanjing Tourism Promotion Film 2016 (English Version)
Visit Nanjing and you start to wonder how the city could remain such a secret among international travelers. Now this hidden treasure is ready for your discovery.
Nanjing, a metropolis of 8 million in the southwest of the lower stretches of the Yangzi River, is one of the highly-developed regions in China with strong industrial economic strength. It is the capital of Jiangsu Province. But back to the past, it was the capital of China, serving 10 dynasties and regimes.
The 6,000 years’ history has left abundant Chinese historical and cultural heritages in Nanjing. In addition to historical sights, memorials, museums and cultural sights also attract thousands of visitors. The trick of visiting Nanjing is finding a balance between ancient relics and soaring skyscrapers, and meanwhile setting among a beautiful landscape of lakes, forested parks and rivers. The city is highly alluring with the immense wealth of well-preserved Chinese culture and history, architecture unique to China's Mingguo era (1912-1949), roots of one of China’s finest cuisines, home to several excellent universities, a large population of foreign students and slower and relaxed life style, etc.

Xinjiekou is the central business district of Nanjing, People's Republic of China. It gave its name to Xinjiekou subway station.
Xinjiekou is an ancient site in Nanjing. In ancient times, it is only a quiet and lonely street with lots of empty space and pond. Since 1929, the location has changed greatly; four main roads of 40-meter-width met here: Zhongshan Eastern Road, Zhongzheng Road (Zhongshan Southern Road), Hanzhong Road, and Zhongshan Road, with a traffic circle in the center. On the grounds of the new traffic circle, Xinjiekou became the newly developing commercial center. In the 1930s, many buildings sprang up, like The Domestic Bank, Zhejiang Xingye Bank, Bank of Communications, the Central Shopping Center, Dahua Theater, Xindu Theater, and Fuchang Restaurant. In the 1980s, Jinling Restaurant was the tallest building.
Nanjing Xinjiekou Department Store Company will buy an 89 percent stake in Highland Group Holdings Ltd, which owns the U.K. department store chain House of Fraser.

Nanjing Fuzimiao Info:
Nanjing Fuzimiao (Chinese: 南京夫子庙) or Fuzimiao (Chinese: 夫子庙; literally: 'Confucian Temple'), is located in southern Nanjing City on banks of the Qinhuai River.
In first year of Jianwu reign of Jin Dynasty (CE 317), Nanking Imperial University was founded, initially on northern bank of Qinhuai River, and in the 3rd year of Xiankang (CE 337) the campus extended to southern bank. Temple of Confucius was firstly constructed in the national school in the 9th year of Taiyuan (CE 384). The place was later destroyed. In the 1st year of Jingyou during Song Dynasty (CE 1034), Confucius Temple was newly constructed on former site of imperial university, and was called Fuzimiao area along with Nanking Fuxue. The place became Imperial University again in 1365 in the early year of Ming Dynasty, and sixteen years later recovered to be the campus of Fuxue. During Qing Dynasty, there were two Xianxue (county schools of Shangyuan and Jiangning) in Fuzimiao area. In the end of Qing a primary school jointly sponsored by counties of Nanjing (Jiangning Fu) was established there. The current buildings date from the 19th century, in Qing Dynasty, with additions made since then. The temple lost all financial support by the state as a result of the revolution of 1911. During the late 1920s to 1931 and again in 1932 it was used as army barracks for troops the KMT regime and left in a dilapidated state. Some halls were used as picture gallery. In 1985 Fuzimiao area was restored.
There is Jiangnan Gongyuan near Fuzimiao Temple. It's the largest imperial examination hall in Ming and Qing dynasties.
Throughout its history, the temple along with the around area has been a place for study of Confucianism. There is a small exhibit of folkart within the temple.

China marks 81st anniversary of Nanjing Massacre
China marked the 81st anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre in eastern Nanjing city on Thursday (December 13), an event which still plays a key role in defining the country's relationship with Japan.
China and Japan have long sparred over their painful history. China says Japanese troops killed 300,000 people in Nanjing during the 1937 massacre.
A postwar Allied tribunal put the death toll in the eastern city of Nanjing at 142,000, but some conservative Japanese politicians and scholars deny a massacre took place at all.
Sino-Japanese relations have been tense in recent years due to a feud over East China Sea islands, and suspicion in China about efforts by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to amend Japan's pacifist constitution. But in October this year, Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a broad range of agreements and pledged to forge closer ties at the first full-scale Sino-Japanese summit since 2011.

For The Love of Nanjing University
Nanjing University (abbr NJU or NU, simplified Chinese: 南京大学; traditional Chinese: 南京大學; pinyin: Nánjīng Dàxué; colloquially 南大, Nándà), or Nanking University, is a national comprehensive university located in Nanjing (Nanking), China. It has been a research university integrating tradition and modernity with the mainstream philosophy that Tao (Nature and principle of all of universe) is universal through all times, and is a member of the C9 League. According to the university's past history book, its history dates back to the first year of Yong'an reign (258 CE) when Nanking imperial daxue was originally founded, and it's supposed to be the oldest existing higher learning institution in the world. It was established as a modern new school with extended core dedications to the learning of modern science and technology in 1902 in the end years of Qing Dynasty, and became a modern university in the early 1920s, the early years of Republic of China, and is the first Chinese modern university with the combination of education and research. Before the eve of establishment of People's Republic of China in 1949, the name was changed from National Central University to Nanking University. As the cradle of modern science in China[cite this quote], and a centre of humanism and also a centre of the modern renaissance of Confucian thought and Chinese culture, advocating and engaging in communicating common human thought and developing rational academic science for world peace and prosperity, Nanjing University is a prestigious university with great contributions and influences in education, academia and culture.
