Police precinct in Pingxi renovated to look like a sky lantern
Renovations are nearly completed to make the police precinct in Pingxi look like a sky lantern. The new look will reflect the sky lantern's importance to this New Taipei City tourist town. The basic design for the new Pingxi police precinct was revealed in April of last year. Now that most of the construction is completed, it is apparent that this three-story building truly resembles a sky lantern. It is located next to the Jingtong Railway Station and attracts the gaze of curious tourists.TouristWhen I saw it undergoing renovations, I thought it was a new guesthouse, says this tourist. It's really attractive. The building cost NT$10 million to renovate. Plans include making the first floor a tourist service center, with the second and third floor serving as the precinct and dormitory.Chen C
Xitou police precinct exhibits a three-eyed monster in a jail cell to educate the public
Scary monsters are popping up everywhere. Now, Nantou's Xitou police precinct has joined the fun by adding a special installation featuring a caged, red devil with three eyes. The installation is not only entertaining and humorous, but also an important message about the consequences of crime. Monsters help liven up the scenery, and now, this police precinct has adorned the front of the building with a two story sculpture involving a red devil with three eyes in a cage. This police precinct in Xitou hopes this scary sight will persuade people to think again when doing evil deeds.I think it's very creative and educationalWhile this police precinct in central Taiwan is quite creative, it's not the only one trying to liven up the scenery as the Pingxi police precinct is built in the shape of a huge sky lantern at a cost of tens of millions of NT$ including a huge LED screen. And in the south, the police precinct in Sinhua is built with a huge police cap over the entrance to the building. Chang Tse-chengNantou County Police Department The police precinct in Xitou is in a scenic area and we hoped it could serve dual functions regarding public security and a sightseeing destination.Turning police precincts into must see tourist sites involve creativity and special architectural design to bring these once utilitarian buildings into destinations for curious visitors.

Taipei (; Hokkien POJ: Tâi-pak), officially known as Taipei City, is the capital and a special municipality of the Republic of China. Sitting at the northern tip of the island, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City that sits about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of the northern port city Keelung. Most of the city is located in the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed. The basin is bounded by the relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border. The city proper is home to an estimated population of 2,704,810 (2015), forming the core part of the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area, which includes the nearby cities of New Taipei and Keelung with a population of 7,047,559, the 40th most-populous urban area in the world—roughly one-third of Taiwanese citizens live in the metro district. The name Taipei can refer either to the whole metropolitan area or the city proper.
Taipei is the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of the Republic of China and one of the major hubs in East Asia. Considered to be a global city and rated as an Alpha City by GaWC, Taipei is part of a major high-tech industrial area. Railways, high-speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island. The city is served by two airports – Taipei Songshan and Taiwan Taoyuan. Taipei is home to various world-famous architectural or cultural landmarks, which include Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Dalongdong Baoan Temple, Hsing Tian Kong, Lungshan Temple of Manka, National Palace Museum, Presidential Office Building, Taipei Guest House, Ximending, and several night markets dispersed throughout the city. Natural features such as Maokong, Yangmingshan, and hot springs are also well known to international visitors.
In English-language news reports the name Taipei often serves as a synecdoche referring to Taiwan's national government. Due to the ambiguous political status of Taiwan internationally, the term Chinese Taipei is also sometimes pressed into service as a synonym for the entire country, as when Taiwan's government representatives participate in international organizations or Taiwan's athletes participate in international sporting events.
