Slivnica, Slovenia 2018
Slivnica is a peak in the Dinaric Alps in Slovenia. It's elevation is 1,114 metres and is located on the southeast of Cerknica on the edge of the plain defined by Lake Cerknica. In this video my hike stops at the meadow just 10 minutes away from it's highest peak, Velika Slivnica (Big Slivnica). Unfortunately I do not have footage of Velika Slivnica however the view here will surely take your breath away.
A karst cave below the summit of Slivnica, known as Witches' Cave (Coprniška jama) was described by Valvasor in his The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola (1689) as a hole where storms were made. Warm air rises from the cave in the cold winter months and condenses to form mist, a phenomenon that contributed to the creation of the local legend about the Slivnica witches, traditionally blamed for all misfortune by local farmers from hail storms to various ailments (Wikipedia).

Lake Cerknica (pronounced [ˈtseːɾknitsa]; Slovene: Cerkniško jezero, German: Zirknitzer See) is an intermittent lake in the southern part of the Cerknica Polje, a karst polje in Inner Carniola, a region in southwestern Slovenia.[1] The lake, oriented in the Dinaric direction from northwest to southeast, is present for the most part of the year.[1] When full, it is the largest lake in the country. The plain is surrounded by the Javornik Hills (1,268 metres or 4,160 feet) to the south and Slivnica (1,022 m or 3,353 ft) to the north, both belonging to Dinaric Alps. The area of the lake mainly reaches 28 square kilometres (11 sq mi), but can reach up to 38 km2 (15 sq mi) and the surface level varies from 546 m (1,791 ft) to 551 m (1,808 ft) above sea level. The lake is an important wildlife resort, especially as a nesting place for many bird species. Botanically, it is distinguished by amphibious plants. It is therefore a part of two Natura 2000 areas of protection[2] and the focus of the Inner Carniola Regional Park, which covers additional Natura 2000 areas in the broader region.[3] The climate in the area is continental, with a mean temperature of 9.2 °C (48.6 °F) and the annual precipitation about 1,700 millimetres (67 in). The largest settlement at the border of the lake is Cerknica, located north of the lake. Various watersports, including windsurfing, are popular on the lake.

Hiking Slivnica Mountain near Cerknica
Slivnica Mountain lies at the edge of Cerknica Lake, a seasonal karst lake in western Slovenia. Known locally as the hill of the witch, it’s a nice, relatively easy hike that takes about one and half hours to the top, where you can relax with a drink and some homemade stews at the mountain cabin, while enjoying great views down the lake and surrounding mountains from its terrace.

Speedflying Slivnica
Flight #10: A quick short boring flight from the witch mountain called Slivnica above Cerknica. Weather is supposed to deteriorate so this was my choice for today. Tested glide ratio and could not believe how far this ultralight speedflyer actually goes. Nothing else to be added except that I must practice both launch and approach.
