5 Days in Bratislava and Slovakia Day 4 with Surviving Europe (SnapChat)
Day 4 in Bratislava was our day with no agenda. And having no agenda led us to some incredible places! The first? Old Market Hall, where they host a market every Saturday! Like a giant flea market with Slovak treats too! Then we dined at Urban House, which ended up being our favorite spot in the city. Creative and DELICIOUS food & drinks and a really cool atmosphere. After that, we followed a royal parade to the Bratislava Wine Festival opening, visited the Blue Church and lost track of time at the Grand Gru Wine Cellar. Then, it was time for Night 2 at NEON Festival. Another epic day in Slovakia, documented through Snapchat!

5 Days in Bratislava and Slovakia Day 5 with Surviving Europe (SnapChat)
Day 5 was our last day in Bratislava and Slovakia, so we had to make the most of it! It was time to properly explore the Old Town. We ate another awesome breakfast at Urban House then went on a statue scavenger hunt. Taking pictures with ALL of Bratislava’s famous statues. We also happened to be here for the Euro2016 games, so the rest of the day we bar-hopped, discovering the best places to grab a beer and watch the games. We ended our night at Slovak Pub for some delicious and authentic Slovak food! Here’s our Day 5 Snapchat.

Slovak Food Review - 5 Things to try in Bratislava, Slovakia
Join us in Bratislava, Slovakia as we sample Slovak food for the first time in this review of traditional Slovakian dishes at Prašná Bašta restaurant in the old town. Wanting to sample as much traditional Slovak cuisine as we possibly could we ordered an appetizer, two mains and a dessert to share along with some local produced wines. The meal itself was outstanding. Everything we had was delicious but we kind of made the mistake of ordering two many hearty and filling things to share when we probably could have swapped in a lighter appetizer for example. Regardless, it was a memorable meal and we'd highly recommend you try Slovak food whenever you get a chance:
1) Slovak Wine - André and Cabernet Sauvignon (both dry reds)
2) Slovak Appetizer - Palacinka Hortobágyi (Pancake with shredded chicken and cream sauce)
3) Slovak main dish #1 - Bryndzové Halušky (Potato gnocchi with Slovak sheep cheese and bacon squares)
4) Slovak main dish #2 - Bravčová Panenka (pork and beef tenderloin with paprika in potato and zucchini pancake)
5) Slovak dessert - Somló (apple and whipped cream dessert)

Slovak Food Review - 5 Things to try in Bratislava, Slovakia Travel Video Transcript:
Hey guys. From Bratislava. It is lunchtime. Yes. And we've brought our appetites. So hungry! I didn't have a big breakfast so I have brought my appetite today. And we're going to be trying Slovak food for the first time. So this is an exciting moment for us.
So we made it to the restaurant (Prašná Bašta) and it feels like we're in this little cave. We're underground and it is so cozy and yeah. It is just dimly lit. It is not too busy so we've already placed our order and hopefully the food will be here soon because I'm so hungry.
Okay so Sam and I both got red wines. And they're both from Slovakia so I got the Cabernet Sauvignon and you got one called Andre.
Alright so the first dish has shown up at the table and it looks nothing like what we were expecting so we're kind of like wooh which one is this? I'm guessing it is the appetizer which I think was called palacinka hortobágyi or something like that. And it is meant to be potato pancakes with chicken in a cream sauce. And I mean this looks creamy. It does look creamy. But um I was expecting like a white cream sauce.
My main is here and I went for a traditional Slovak dish. I can't pronounce the name (Bryndzové Halušky) it is a little too complicated for me but basically it is a potato gnocchi made with Slovak sheep's cheese and it also has some bacon on top.
Okay and Sam ordered himself some kind of stuffed potato zucchini pancake. It looks so good. I've just got to show you guys how big this is. My hand for comparison. Like this is big. It is massive. It is massive. It is massive. So do you want to tell us what is in there. So inside we have pork and beef tenderloin in a paprika sauce.
Like this is our first introduction to you know Slovak cuisine and I'm saying I'm loving it so far.
This is actually not a Slovak dessert. We ordered Hungarian dessert because Sam thought it looked really appetizing. It is called Somlo.
Somlo. We had this when we were in Budapest.
Time for price point. So that was 35 Euros. That included two glasses of wine. One appetizer. Two mains and a dessert to share. So yeah, it wasn't a cheap meal but we knew that going in. We wanted something that was really good quality and we sure got that here. Portions were generous too and just everything was delicious. There wasn't anything that we ordered that we didn't love. So highly highly recommend this place and what a fantastic introduction to Slovak food I have to say. And now we need a siesta. Bye guys.

10 Things to do in Bratislava, Slovakia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
We're visiting Bratislava, Slovakia and in this video we're going to show you guys 10 things to do in Bratislava. Let's get started.
Our first stop was Devin Castle, which is located in Devin, a borough of Bratislava. This is the one attraction we visited that was a little further from the Old Town - a 30-minute bus ride.
Devin Castle is a ruined castle that sits on Slovak territory at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers.
We ate at a restaurant called “Modra Hviezda” which is located at the base of Bratislava Castle and feels like a cave.
Bratislava Castle was Built in the 9th century and modified over the centuries many times over, this 4-towered castle sits perched on a hill overlooking the Danube River.
You get nice views over the Old Town, plus you have the Slovak National Museum & the Baroque Gardens on the north side of the palace.
The following day, we set out to explore the Old Town and stopping cafe for a decadent breakfast.
Bratislava’s Old Town is compact & easy to explore on foot and cover most of the sights in one day. We went on our own do-it-yourself tour finding all sorts of interesting statues & landmarks.
The Blue Church is located on Bezručova Street, which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Old Town designed in the art nouveau style.
Locals in Bratislava like to say that the best view of their city is from the UFO Bridge because you can’t see the UFO bridge. You get amazing views of Bratislava during sunset.
And while you’re down by the Danube, you can either enjoy a stroll along the river, or go on a sightseeing cruise.
Prašná bašta is another cozy restaurant located at basement level and we had another wonderful meal.
For sports fans be sure to check out a HC Slovan Bratislava ice hockey game. They play in the KHL and the level of hockey and entertainment value is fantastic.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bratislava. While we can see the appeal of doing this as a day trip from Vienna, we loved having the extra time to really enjoy the city, try out some great restaurants, and make it to some of the further attractions like Devin Castle. If you have a few days to spare, this is a great little capital to visit.
Any other things to do in Bratislava that we may have missed, feel free to share your suggestions with travellers in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Slovakia video series showcasing Slovak food (Slovakian food), Slovak culture (Slovakian culture) and Slovak cuisine (Slovakian cuisine).

About Bratislava :
Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia has a population of about 430,000, it is one of the smaller capitals of Europe but still the country's largest city.
#5 Transportation
In Bratislava, you buy tickets based on your duration of travel. Tram, Bus, Subway are easily available which can be navigated using the google map, and it’s pretty cheap. You need to validate the ticket once you board in the bus. There would be validator machine inside the bus, and your trip duration time starts from the time of validation in the machine. The ticket machines are available in almost all the bus stoppages, and the machines accept only coins, that is Euros! Another convenient way we found is that the ticket is same for bus, tram, subways which made all our journeys quite comfortable and hassle free.
#4 Bratislava Castle
Bratislava Castle is the main castle of Bratislava. The massive rectangular building with four corner towers stands on an isolated rocky hill of the Little Carpathians directly above the Danube river in the middle of Bratislava. Because of its size and location, it has been a dominant feature of the city for centuries. From the castle, you can have a breathtaking view of the entire city. The castle area is a huge one with an extended park and almost a day trip for travellers. It’s a treat to your eyes and you can definitely go for some greats shots in the place! You can see the UFO from there which is the skyscraper of Bratislava. Entrance to the castle is 10 Euros.
#3 Slavin's War Memorial
The largest war memorial in Central Europe is thanks to its height of 52 metres one of the dominating features of the city skyline. It is the burial ground of 6845 soldiers of the Soviet army who died during the liberation of Bratislava in World War II.This place takes you back to the memories and history of the european nation. It’s a must visit if you have a patriotic heart :)
#2 Old Town Square
The most vibrant and the historic center of Bratislava. The place which touched our heart the most in Bratislava.Bratislava's Old Town is known for its many churches, the Bratislava Riverfront and cultural institutions, it is also the location of most of the foreign states embassies and important Slovak institutions.Night life in old town is just so amazing. The streets are filled with street music and artistic backgrounds! You would find yourself just lost in the lanes of Old Town.We spent good amount of time there, both in the evening and daytime & the place has it’s own beauty during both the time zones. We both fell in love once again in Old Town :) Old Town is just a way to statues, amazing food, pubs, hang out joints and lovely crowd.
#1 Slovakian Food
Just have no words! My mouth is watering :) Slovakian food is just a different treat to your taste buds. We tried to taste almost all the major local cuisines of the place. Among which Potato and Cheese Dumplings, Sheep Cheese, Cheese Ham Pasta were just so delicious! These are must try in Slovakian cuisine! Do not miss it. And yes, you must visit Meštiansky pivovar, one of the ultra famous Slovak restaurent! We just cannot get rid of that place from our mind!
