Creepy Places of New England: Smith's Castle

On this Christmas theme episode, Charles and members of Ocean State Paranormal travel to Smith’s Castle, 17th century historic house located in North Kingstown, RI. The property was originally purchased by a man named Richard Smith, and it was here he established a trading post. During the King Philip's War, the original structure was burned down. On January 18, 1676, a man named Joshua Tefft executed on that property. In 1678, the present structure was built by Richard Jr. When he died, his nephew, Captain Lodowick Updike, inherited the property. He developed the land into a large and thriving plantation and was considered one of the largest slave planation in the state.
It stayed an agricultural business throughout the years, but after 1937, the function of the property as an agricultural center ceased and the structure started to go into disrepair. In 1948, a group of citizens purchased the house and 22 acres of land in order to maintain and restore the property. It’s also claimed to have paranormal activity, which includes the spirits of Elizabeth Singleton and Phebe Congdon.

Free Bird tangled in fishing wire at park in Rhode Island | animal rescue
During our walk through Ryan Park in North Kingstown, Rhode Island this Memorial Day Weekend, we found a little bird trapped in fishing line a fisherman or woman left behind. The bird was dangling from the bridge forced to tread the water underneath with its wings and legs strapped to its body. If we hadn't come by, it would surely have drowned from exhaustion.
We hoisted the bird out of the water and brought it in. The critter resisted and snapped a few times but then realized we were only trying to help. My dad Frederick Smith, a North Kingstown resident and West Bay Family YMCA of Greater Providence member, took charge and untangled the poor bird. After several minutes of struggling to figure out how to get the tangled fishing wire out from around its neck, wings, and feet, the bird was ready to be released. Watch the video footage here to see the freed bird fly away!
The takeaway: Please pick up after yourselves. Fishing wire and trash left behind can kill animals and ruin our beautiful parks and beaches. You make an impact either way, make sure it's positive.

Rhode Island
Rhode Island (/ˌroʊd ˈaɪlɨnd/ or /rɵˈdaɪlɨnd/), officially the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, is a state in the New England region of the United States. Rhode Island is the smallest in area, the eighth least populous, but the second most densely populated of the 50 US states behind New Jersey. Rhode Island is bordered by Connecticut to the west and Massachusetts to the north and east, and it shares a water boundary with New York's Long Island to the southwest. It also has the longest official name of all the states.
Rhode Island was the first of the original Thirteen Colonies to declare independence from British rule, declaring itself independent on May 4, 1776, two months before any other colony. The State was also the last of the thirteen original colonies to ratify the United States Constitution.

2015 Rhode Island ANG Open House & Airshow
Quonset State Airport
North Kingstown, Rhode Island
Saturday May 30, 2015
Captain Denis “Cheech” Beaulieu takes to the skies over the Quonset State Airport on Saturday and flies an AMAZING demonstration in the CF-18 Hornet. Every year
the CF-18 Demo Team paints up the demo aircraft to commemorate a certain theme and of course 2015 is no different. The 2015 airshow season is commemorating the
75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and this year's demo jet is painted to replicate the paint scheme worn by RCAF Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft that took part in
the Battle of Britain. It is, in my opinion, one of the finest Hornet paint jobs to fly airshows in 2015!
I apologize for any shakiness in the video and the picture appearing to shake violently as there was a considerable amount of camera trouble throughout the weekend.

DUBLINERS by James Joyce - FULL Audio Book | Greatest Audio Books
DUBLINERS by James Joyce - FULL Audio Book | Greatest Audio Books - Dubliners is a collection of 15 short stories by James Joyce, first published in 1914. They form a naturalistic depiction of Irish middle class life in and around Dublin in the early years of the 20th century. The stories were written when Irish nationalism was at its peak and a search for a national identity and purpose was raging; at a crossroads of history and culture, Ireland was jolted by various converging ideas and influences. They centre on Joyce's idea of an epiphany: a moment where a character experiences self-understanding or illumination. Many of the characters in Dubliners later appear in minor roles in Joyce's novel Ulysses. The initial stories in the collection are narrated by child protagonists, and as the stories continue, they deal with the lives and concerns of progressively older people. This is in line with Joyce's tripartite division of the collection into childhood, adolescence, and maturity. (Summary from Wikipedia)

SUMMARY
=======
Charles II (29 May 1630 – 6 February 1685) was king of England, Scotland and Ireland. He was king of Scotland from 1649 until his deposition in 1651, and king of England, Scotland and Ireland from the restoration of the monarchy in 1660 until his death.
Charles II's father, Charles I, was executed at Whitehall on 30 January 1649, at the climax of the English Civil War. Although the Parliament of Scotland proclaimed Charles II king on 5 February 1649, England entered the period known as the English Interregnum or the English Commonwealth, and the country was a de facto republic, led by Oliver Cromwell. Cromwell defeated Charles II at the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651, and Charles fled to mainland Europe. Cromwell became virtual dictator of England, Scotland and Ireland. Charles spent the next nine years in exile in France, the Dutch Republic and the Spanish Netherlands. A political crisis that followed the death of Cromwell in 1658 resulted in the restoration of the monarchy, and Charles was invited to return to Britain. On 29 May 1660, his 30th birthday, he was received in London to public acclaim. After 1660, all legal documents were dated as if he had succeeded his father as king in 1649.
Charles's English parliament enacted laws known as the Clarendon Code, designed to shore up the position of the re-established Church of England. Charles acquiesced to the Clarendon Code even though he favoured a policy of religious tolerance. The major foreign policy issue of his early reign was the Second Anglo-Dutch War. In 1670, he entered into the Treaty of Dover, an alliance with his first cousin King Louis XIV of France. Louis agreed to aid him in the Third Anglo-Dutch War and pay him a pension, and Charles secretly promised to convert to Catholicism at an unspecified future date. Charles attempted to introduce religious freedom for Catholics and Protestant dissenters with his 1672 Royal Declaration of Indulgence, but the English Parliament forced him to withdraw it. In 1679, Titus Oates's revelations of a supposed Popish Plot sparked the Exclusion Crisis when it was revealed that Charles's brother and heir (James, Duke of York) was a Catholic. The crisis saw the birth of the pro-exclusion Whig and anti-exclusion Tory parties. Charles sided with the Tories, and, following the discovery of the Rye House Plot to murder Charles and James in 1683, some Whig leaders were executed or forced into exile. Charles dissolved the English Parliament in 1681, and ruled alone until his death on 6 February 1685. He was received into the Catholic Church on his deathbed.
Charles was one of the most popular and beloved kings of England, known as the Merry Monarch, in reference to both the liveliness and hedonism of his court and the general relief at the return to normality after over a decade of rule by Cromwell and the Puritans. Charles's wife, Catherine of Braganza, bore no live children, but Charles acknowledged at least twelve illegitimate children by various mistresses. He was succeeded by his brother James.
