6025 Pentecost Road
Initial offering of 6025 Pentecost Road, 170 pristine acres treasured by generations of same family for more than a century.Walker Farm is truly a rare opportunity in Orange County. Seldom is a tract of 170 unspoiled acres available in this highly coveted region of North Carolina. The opportunities for this property are as vast as the land is immense. International airports, Raleigh-Durham and Greensboro, are only minutes away. Main arteries, Interstate Highway 85 and Interstate 40, are readily accessible for scenic rides to Raleigh, Research Triangle Park, both to the east, and Greensboro, Triad Region, as well as Charlotte to the west. The up and coming Chatham Park development is easily accessed as well in neighboring Chatham County. This premium location has acres of pines and hardwoods, five ponds, acres of pastures, fields and meadows.Standing on the land are sheds and a barn, as if they are paying homage to the rich history that molded the region, its culture and economy. The barn on Walker Farm is specific to the area. Its use in the prior century would have been to put-in tobacco where the broad plant leaves would have hung to turn golden until time to go to market. The tobacco barns now are valued by designers, artisans, architects, and builders. The timbers and wood from a tobacco barn are coveted for strength and rustic appeal. Tobacco barns were as monuments to the farmers, something of a sign of success. The farmer's growing tobacco strongly contributed, if not sustained, a rural area's economy. The long-time tobacco markets and cigarette factories of Durham have been lovingly converted to character-filled shops boasting handmade articles, art galleries, offices, and some of the best dining spots in the country. Many restaurants are chef owned using local natural and organically grown ingredients flavor to the dining experience in every sense of the word.Mid-North Carolina is fortunate to have one of the top five venues for live performances. State-of-the-art Durham Performing Arts Center is a quick ride away for an evening of Broadway caliber entertainment complemented by culinary fare, simple or extravagant, to suit any taste.Walker Farm has unparalleled vistas at every turn to provide picture-perfect sites for the home of your dreams or just camping and basking in the natural beauty of the very heartland of the Tar Heel state. This giant parcel of land is unique in its versatility. Its possibilities are only limited by the imagination.

Communities of Distinction featured on Town of Harrisburg
THE TOWN OF HARRISBURG LIES IN THE PIEDMONT REGION OF NORTH CAROLINA, BETWEEN THE CAROLINA COAST AND APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS.
SETTLED BY MOSTLY SCOTCH-IRISH IN THE MID-SEVENTEEN HUNDREDS, HARRISBURG EVOLVED ALONG THE RALEIGH TO CHARLOTTE RAIL LINE, AND REMAINS ONE OF THE BUSIEST RAIL CORRIDORS IN THE STATE.
TODAY, HARRISBURG IS KNOWN FOR ITS EXTENSIVE NETWORK OF CREEKS AND ROLLING COUNTRYSIDE.
Harrisburg has what can be considered a sub-tropic climates our winters are usually short and mild while summers are warm, with just a touch of humidity. My favorite times of the year are spring and fall where the seasons are along with moderate temperatures and it's certainly not uncommon to wear shorts during Thanksgiving.
HARRISBURG’S PASTORAL LANDSCAPE ABOUNDS WITH PARKS AND OUTDOOR RECREATION.
PLANS ARE CURRENTLY UNDERWAY TO CREATE A NETWORK OF GREENWAYS AND NEIGHBORHOOD FITNESS TRAILS.
THE PATHS ARE DESIGNED TO IMPROVE CONNECTIVITY TO TOWN CENTER AND OTHER REGIONAL TRAILS SUCH AS CHARLOTTE’S NETWORK OF GREENWAYS, AND THE CAROLINA THREAD TRAIL.
Harrisburg strives to be an outstanding municipality with a focus on family values, community involvement, economic opportunity, and cost-effective government. It provides it's citizens a safe living environment , excellent recreational programs, open space attractive shopping and dinging choices, and connected system of sidewalks, roads, and bike lanes.
HARRISBURG IS IN “NASCAR COUNTRY”, A REGION THAT DOZENS OF HIGH-TECH RACING TEAMS CALL HOME.
WITH CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY AND ZMAX DRAGWAY JUST MINUTES AWAY, THERE’S EASY ACCESS TO ATTRACTIONS LIKE GREAT WOLF LODGE, THE CONCORD MILLS OUTLET CENTER, AND SEA LIFE AQUARIUM.
There are many attractions in the area. Within a thirty minute drive we can enjoy Broadway shows, NFL & NBA games, NASCAR racing, baseball matches and minor league soccer and hockey. There is everything from top performers at the local music pavilion, to rafting, and Carowinds amusement park.
WITH CONVENIENT ACCESS TO CHARLOTTE, THE TOWN OF HARRISBURG HAS BECOME ONE OF THE MOST AFFLUENT ZIP CODES IN THE REGION.
AS THE FASTEST GROWING MUNICIPALITY IN THE CHARLOTTE AREA, HARRISBURG ATTRACTS BUSINESS THROUGH ITS PROXIMITY TO MAJOR INTERSTATES, LOW TAXES, AND A HIGHLY EDUCATED WORKFORCE.
Why do business in Harrisburg? Well there are several economic and demographic trends. Harrisburg has more working age people, there's a younger population that are more educated, actually higher SAT scores- also higher is the per-capita income and the median family income that is faster growing than the county and the region. With that growing workforce, unemployment is declining at a faster rate than similar communities.
HARRISBURG BOASTS ONE OF THE LOWEST TAX RATES IN THE CHARLOTTE REGION, AND NORTH CAROLINA.
TO STREAMLINE THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS, HARRISBURG’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR ACTS AS A LIAISON BETWEEN BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITY OFFICIALS.
THE TOWN ALSO WORKS CLOSELY WITH ROWAN CABARRUS COMMUNITY COLLEGE ON CORPORATE TRAINING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMMING, AND IS DEVELOPING PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES WITH NEARBY UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHARLOTTE.
HARRISBURG IS ONLY MINUTES AWAY FROM THE NORTH CAROLINA RESEARCH CAMPUS.
The town of Harrisburg is a pro-growth, pro-business, and pro-family community. The community along with its elected leaders and professional staff work hard to make sure that Harrisburg is the best place live, work, raise a family and especially run a business.
TO FURTHER PROMOTE GROWTH, THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS MAKING RAIL AND ROAD IMPROVEMENTS TO CONNECT TOWN CENTER WITH RESIDENTIAL GROWTH TO THE SOUTH AND WEST.
Harrisburg is a family oriented community. We have great parks and recreation programs, family events and entertainment, some of the best schools in the area and extremely low tax rates. Our proximity to the interstate allows for quick access to the ocean or the mountains.

Appalachia | Wikipedia audio article
This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article:
Appalachia
Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Appalachia () is a cultural region in the Eastern United States that stretches from the Southern Tier of New York to northern Alabama and Georgia. While the Appalachian Mountains stretch from Belle Isle in Canada to Cheaha Mountain in Alabama, the cultural region of Appalachia typically refers only to the central and southern portions of the range, from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, southwesterly to the Great Smoky Mountains. As of the 2010 United States Census, the region was home to approximately 25 million people.Since its recognition as a distinctive region in the late 19th century, Appalachia has been a source of enduring myths and distortions regarding the isolation, temperament, and behavior of its inhabitants. Early 20th century writers often engaged in yellow journalism focused on sensationalistic aspects of the region's culture, such as moonshining and clan feuding, and often portrayed the region's inhabitants as uneducated and prone to impulsive acts of violence. Sociological studies in the 1960s and 1970s helped to re-examine and dispel these stereotypes. While endowed with abundant natural resources, Appalachia has long struggled and been associated with poverty. In the early 20th century, large-scale logging and coal mining firms brought wage-paying jobs and modern amenities to Appalachia, but by the 1960s the region had failed to capitalize on any long-term benefits from these two industries. Beginning in the 1930s, the federal government sought to alleviate poverty in the Appalachian region with a series of New Deal initiatives, such as the construction of dams to provide cheap electricity and the implementation of better farming practices. On March 9, 1965, the Appalachian Regional Commission was created to further alleviate poverty in the region, mainly by diversifying the region's economy and helping to provide better health care and educational opportunities to the region's inhabitants. By 1990, Appalachia had largely joined the economic mainstream, but still lagged behind the rest of the nation in most economic indicators.
