Idaho Falls is a city in Idaho. Hugging the Snake River, the Greenbelt is a system of trails with parks and a waterfall. The riverside Art Museum of Eastern Idaho showcases eclectic works. Downtown’s Museum of Idaho has local-history exhibits, including items linked to the Lewis and Clark expedition and a re-created 1800s town. The Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park has lions, sloths and penguins, plus a petting zoo.
The area around Idaho Falls was first sparsely settled by cattle and sheep ranchers, but no significant development took place until 1864, when a man named Harry Rickets built and operated a ferry on the Snake River. Idaho Falls is the county seat of Bonneville County, Idaho and the state's largest city outside the Boise metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Idaho Falls was 56,813 (2016 estimate: 60,211).
Exploring the Green Belt in Idaho Falls
Along the Snake River in Idaho Falls is now a great place to walk, bike, skate, relax, and play a round of chess. What used to be a breeding ground for goose poop, is now a beautiful place to enjoy the beauty that is Idaho Falls.

Idaho Falls Traveling Guide | Idaho Falls | Idaho, USA
Idaho Falls was one of those waterfalls that not only pertained to the name of the waterfall, but it was also the name of the city in which it sat at its heart. If you show up in the outdoor recreation-blessed burg of Idaho Falls expecting to be blown away by raging urban rapids or a cataract of significant height in the middle of the Gem State’s fourth-largest city, you might be disappointed as Idaho Falls’ signature waterfall system is only 20 feet tall and largely man-made.
Idaho Falls wasn’t even Idaho Falls until 1891 when the residents of Eagle Rock, Idaho, voted to change the town’s name to reflect a series of picturesque natural rapids on the Snake River. In the following years, the falls were converted into a man-made hydroelectric diversion dam with a 600-foot-wide concrete spillway filling in for natural cascades. Whatever the case, the falls, located along a lovely urban greenbelt system, remain one of downtown Idaho Falls’ top attractions.

Drones over Idaho 2019 Idaho Falls
Please visit my web site divexprt.com for complete galleries on these and many more monumental locations there just wasn't space to include here.
These are from my trip to Idaho Falls in 2019 with side trips to Swan Valley and West Yellowstone..
Off the beaten track, I flew over the Ririe Reservoir and its earthen dam. The dam backs up Willow Creek to form a long, skinny reservoir.
Then driving South on Rt. 26, I stopped at charming Fall Creek Falls. Small, but kind of neat, and flowing pretty strongly.
Finally, farther down the highway, I flew twice at Palisades Dam and the huge reservoir behind it.
Once the weather had turned warm and sunny, I tackled the two most challenging flights of the trip. Lower Mesa Falls is 1150 feet distant, and 450 feet down in a gorge. Scary stuff, because the drone has to make the long climb back when the battery is running down.
Upper Mesa Falls must be approached from above after flying above hundreds of tall fir trees. Any mistake with those trees is fatal for the drone.
I also had a chance to fly over some bucolic scenes along the Snake River South of Yellowstone, One thing for sure--Idaho has a lot of water!
To wrap up the adventure, I drove to Mackay Reservoir and Dam in a spectacular setting. I even made a high flight (miraculously missing some power lines by mere inches!) to get an overview of the lake. What a finale!
