Day 167 Socorro, New Mexico - Baca and other legends
Socorro is a very old time from Spaniard days, bandits, cowboys, cowboy and range wars, and one tough sheriff who rode to Reserve past Datil and had a big shoot out with scores of Cowboys who had gotten a bit out of hand and castrated a man. The western most part of the Lincoln County wars if you will. Many things over land rights, human rights, nothing different than what the Akha look for.
I spent an hour or so in the Stage Door Grill at the quaint downtown, where the atmosphere is good and the music not too loud. Everyone was having fun.
On the way across the hills though I noticed that a small rural bar was closed. Someone told me the State of New Mexico won't issue new liquor licenses so the small ones get bought out and moved to town, the license that is, leaving many small towns with no watering hole, no beer, and no place for people to go late at night. You won't find this in Oregon. So basically the government of New Mexico is killing its own small towns in a de facto PROHIBITION. Really DUMB.
Socorro has a small town plaza, many old buildings, an old church and New Mexico Tech, a mining and engineering school

Fast Dover Classic Traction Elevators - El Dorado Hotel (Santa Fe, NM)
[Filmed on 2013-06-13 in 1080p60. Dedicated to cubsrule2040 and elevatortimes/elevatorman155.]
These are the super fast traction elevators at the El Dorado Hotel. These are by far the best elevators I have ridden in Santa Fe. Dover did another great job. I am so glad these were installed in the Dover Classic Era and not the Impulse Era. These elevators wouldn't have looked good in Impulse. You can feel how fast these are when you are pulled down from the lobby to the parking garage (L to G).
For some reason, M was locked off. There were no visible key switches in-cab, so I don't know how to access it. Also, M has two buttons right beside each other.

Historic Route 66 - Albuquerque to Tijeras | Drive America's Highways ????
???? Drive America's Highways for 7.5 miles east along the historic mother road from Albuquerque to Tijeras, New Mexico. ????️
We start the video at the intersection of Central Ave and Tramway Blvd on the eastern fringes of Albuquerque. Driving roughly parallel with Interstate 40, we make our way east out of Albuquerque over the Sandia mountains.
After crossing I-40 for the second time, we reach the Musical Highway where if you drive 25mph over a stretch of road, America the Beautiful can be heard. We didn't include the 'music' because the microphone on the gopro really isn't all that great to begin with and the quality was poor.
Entering Tijeras, we continue east through the intersection with NM-337 for about a half mile before reaching the entrance ramp to I-40 in Tijeras where we end the video merging onto I-40.
