সোনাকান্দা দুর্গ মুঘল আমলে নির্মিত একটি জল দুর্গ। ১৬৫০ সালের দিকে তৎকালীন বাংলার সুবাদার মীর জুমলা কর্তৃক নির্মিত হয়েছিল বলে ধারণা করা হয়। এটি নারায়ণগঞ্জ জেলার বন্দর উপজেলায় শীতলক্ষা নদীর পূর্বতীরে অবস্থিত। সপ্তদশ শতকে ঢাকা শহরকে বহিঃ শত্রুর হাত থেকে রক্ষা করতে যে তিনটি জল দুর্গ নির্মাণ করা হয়েছিল সোনাকান্দা দুর্গ তারমধ্যে অন্যতম।

Hajiganj Fort also known as Khizirpur fort, situated at Hajiganj locality of Narayanganj, Bangladesh,On the western bank of Shitalakshya at the point where the Buriganga discharged into the Shitalakshya.
The exact date of Hajiganj fort is uncertain but it may have been built soon after Subahdar Islam Khan established the Mughal capital at Dhaka.
The fort, quadrangular in size, consists of a pantagonal curtain wall machicolated for muskets with rounded corner dastions. On the inner side of the curtain wall there is 1.22m heigh rampart walkway from the base of the curtain wall which is itself pierced by several musketry holes. The holes are wider meant probably for 'gun firing at the pirates proceeding up the river'. In a corner of the fort enclosure there is a tall free standing square column of brick which must have been used for observation and placing guns in the rainy season.

Narayanganj(নারায়ানগঞ্জ) is situated beside the river Shitalakkha and this river has an important role for transportation, specially for carrying the trading goods. It was same even 300 years back. The river was the main channel for any landing parties whoever uses to come here. To hinder any unwanted entries through this river, several observatory forts have been built around. The Sonakanda(সোনাকান্দা) Fort is one of those observatory forts.
It is uncertain about the builder of the fort(though many people believe it was Mir Jumla(মীর জুমলা)). But it is certain that the fort was built during the 17th century, at the Mughal(মোঘল) era. This fort is contemporary to the Idrakpur Fort and the Hajiganj Fort.
History:::Bengal went under the effective control of the Mughal Empire in 1574 AD after the defeat of Daud Khan Karrani by the Mughal General Munim Khan. Mughals exercised a progressive rule in Bengal and were determined to protect their subjects from external forces.
Mir Jumla II was appointed as the Subahdar or governor of the then Bengal province in 1660 AD. He was aware of the pirates who ran a campaign of terror in the important cities of Bengal. In a quest to protect the capital Dhaka from the pirates, Mir Jumla II decided to build three river forts around Dhaka, including Sonakanda Fort.[2]
Though archaeologists cannot trace any evidence on its date of establishment, according to historians the construction of the fort started between 1660 and 1663 AD.
The fort combines thick walls, a massive artillery platform and a gateway to the north.[4]
The fort has two main parts. One is a fortified defensive wall of gigantic dimensions. The defensive walls are 3.05 metres in height and thicker at the bottom. Several wide and narrow loopholes allowed guns and light cannons to fire shells at the pirates. The other one is a raised outwork on the western face to defend the fort from the attack of the pirates.
Structure:::The most significant structure of the fort is the massive artillery platform. One of the spherical artillery platforms has a stairway, which leads up to the artillery platform. Cannons with bigger calibre were placed on there, aiming at the aggressors coming up the Shitalakshya River. This is a unique feature of the river forts built by Mughal Empire.
The platform is surrounded by two circular structures of which the diameter of the inner one is 15.70 metres and the diameter of the outer one is 19.35 metres. The structure is 6.09 metres in height and surrounded by walls.[4]
The fort is quadrangular in plan, measuring 86.56 by 57.0 metres. There are octagonal bastions on the four corners of the fort. The corner bastions on both sides of the western wing are wider than those of the eastern wing, which are 4.26 metres, while the two on the western wing are 6.85 metres in width.[4]
The only gate of the fort is on the north. The arched entrance is placed within a rectangular frame. The gateway is higher than the average height of the walls of fort and decorated with several groomed panels.

Sonakanda Fort is a river fort situated in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, on the eastern bank of Shitalakshya River. Though the time of its establishment could not be ascertained, historians believe that the river fort was built by Mir Jumla II, a Subahdar of Bengal under the Mughal Empire, to defend Dhaka and Narayanganj from pirates.

Panam City (Panam Nagar) is situated at Sonargaon, Narayanganj in Bangladesh. It is an ancient historical city in Bangladesh. Among the three cities of boro nogor (Big City), khas Nogor, Panam City, it was most attractive city. There are many historical buildings which were built centuries ago and those are related with the history of Baro-Bhuyan. It covered 20 km area of Sonargaon.
As the capital of the fifteenth-century Bengal ruler Isa Khan, and once an important trading and political center, Sonargaon boasts architecture of the Sultanate, Mughal, and colonial periods. The Sonargaon historic city, located near the present-day capital of Dhaka, includes several Mughal monuments—among them the Sonakanda River Fort, the Panch Pir Mazar Shrine, and Ibrahim's and Abdul Hamid's Mosque. British colonial architecture preserved in Sonargaon includes the Ananda Mohan Piddar House, and other street-front houses. For travelers making their way along the 2,500-kilometer Grand Trunk Road from Peshawar in the Hindu Kush, Sonargaon marked the end of the line. Threats to the site include flooding, vandalism, unauthorized occupation, illegal development etc.

হাজীগঞ্জ দুর্গ নারায়ণগঞ্জ শহরের হাজীগঞ্জ এলাকায় শীতলক্ষ্যার পশ্চিম তীরে অবস্থিত। এটি খিজিরপুর দুর্গ নামেও পরিচিত। জলদুর্গের বৈশিষ্ট্য মন্ডিত দুর্গটি শীতলক্ষ্যার সঙ্গে পুরাতন বুড়িগঙ্গার সঙ্গমস্থলে নির্মিত হয়। সম্ভবত মুগল সুবাদার ইসলাম খান কর্তৃক ঢাকায় মুগল রাজধানী স্থাপনের অব্যবহিত পরে নদীপথে মগ ও পর্তুগীজ জলদস্যুদের আক্রমণ প্রতিহত করার উদ্দেশ্যে দুর্গটি নির্মিত হয়।
চতুর্ভুজাকৃতির এই দুর্গের পঞ্চভুজি বেষ্টন-প্রাচীরে রয়েছে বন্দুক ঢুকিয়ে গুলি চালাবার উপযোগী ফোকর এবং চারকোণে গোলাকার বুরুজ। প্রাচীরের চারদিকে অভ্যন্তরভাগে দেয়ালের ভিত থেকে ১.২২ মিটার উঁচুতে রয়েছে চলাচলের পথ এবং এর দেয়ালেও আছে গুলি চালাবার উপযোগী ফোকর। চারকোণের প্রতিটি বুরুজের অভ্যন্তরভাগে দুর্গ প্রাচীরের শীর্ষ পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত সিঁড়ি এবং এর বপ্র বহির্গত অংশে রয়েছে বন্দুকে গুলি চালাবার প্রশস্ততর ফোকর। দুর্গের চতুর্ভুজাকৃতির অঙ্গনের এক কোণে রয়েছে ইটের তৈরি একটি সুউচ্চ চৌকা স্তম্ভ। এটি সম্ভবত একটি পর্যবেক্ষণ বুরুজ। এই স্তম্ভের অবস্থান থেকেই দুর্গটিকে সমসাময়িক অপরাপর জলদুর্গের সমগোত্রীয় বলে ধরে নেয়া যায়। কামান বসানোর উপযোগী উঁচু বেদীর অবস্থান দুর্গটির একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বৈশিষ্ট্য।
নদীর দিকে দুর্গের একমাত্র প্রবেশপথ থেকে বোঝা যায় যে, শুধুমাত্র নদীপথেই দুর্গের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগের ব্যবস্থা ছিল। ফটকটির আয়াতাকার কাঠামোতে রয়েছে পঞ্চভূজি প্রবেশপথ। প্রবেশপথের দু’পাশে রয়েছে খোদাই করা আয়তাকার খিলান এবং এর শীর্ষভাগ পদ্মফুলের অলঙ্করণ শোভিত। দুর্গের অভ্যন্তরে অপর কোনো নির্মাণ কাঠামো না থাকায় প্রতীয়মান হয় যে, বর্ষা মৌসুমে যখন জলদস্যুদের আক্রমণের সম্ভাবনা দেখা দিত কেবলমাত্র তখনই দুর্গটিতে সৈন্য মোতায়েন করা হতো এবং সৈন্যরা সেখানে তাঁবুতে আশ্রয় নিত।

Hajiganj Fort also called Khizrpur Fort, situated at Hajiganj locality of Narayanganj on the western bank of the Sitalakshya. Having the characteristics of a water fort, it was originally built just at the point where the old Buriganga discharged into the Sitalakshya. It may have been built soon after Islam Khan established the Mughal capital at Dhaka, and was intended to countercept the raids of the Magh and Portuguese pirates.
The fort, quadrangular in size, consists of a pentagonal curtain wall machicolated for muskets with rounded corner bastions. On the inner side of the curtain wall there is 1.22m high rampart walkway from the base of the curtain wall which is itself pierced by several musketry holes. Each of the corner bastions has staircase inside up to the rampart level and its merlons have wider holes in between meant for gun firing. In a corner of the fort quadrangle there is a free tall square column of brickwork which seems to be a guard tower. The existence of this column links the fort with other water forts of the time. The existence of the elevated platform for the setting of cannons is an important feature of the fort.
The only small gateway of the fort towards the river side suggests that the means of communication was by the river. The pentagonal gateway is placed in a rectangular structure with engraved rectangular arches on the both sides. The top of the gateway is decorated with lotus finial. There having no other structure inside the fort, it seems that the fort was occupied only in the rainy season when the pirates were expected, and that the occupants used tents as their shades. The fort area is now being used as the Fire Brigade headquarters of Narayanganj. [Muazzam Hussain Khan]
