SONGKRAN FESTIVAL in Chiang Mai Thailand!!
SONKRAN is a festival of utmost happiness of Thai people. During the long holiday, many city dwellers go back home upcountry to celebrate with their families. It’s time of refreshing fun during the hottest part of the year. The young playfully splash water over each other to generate and share a collective feeling of freshness. Soaking someone isn’t insulting; the water is a blessing bringing welcome coolness to people’s live.The Songkran festival takes place on 13 -15 April and represents the traditional Thai New Year.
The word Songkran comes from Sanskrit and means “passing”, that is passage into a new star configuration, into a new year. Even though the official New Year’s Day in Thailand has long been changed to 1 January, people still respect the old tradition.

Wow! This was our first time to come to Thailand and we picked the perfect timing as it was the start of the famous Songkran festival all over the whole country. This is the world's largest water fight and it was mind blowing! So much fun, so many laughs and smiling faces everywhere. This is a 3 day festival that brings out the kid in everyone. This is our experience and it's something we will never forget.

Happy Wan Songkran, Sawasdee Pee Mai! In episode 135 of Amazing Chiang Mai, we join the water party in front of the Kad Suan Kaew (กาดสวนแก้ว) shopping center. On this day of Songkran (สงกรานต์), the famous Thai singers Aof Pongsak and Palmy played on stage. We also spend some time inside in front of Maya Chiang Mai and around the Nimman area.

Songkran, também chamado de Ano-Novo Tailandês é o festival das águas. Uma comemoração milenar que acontece por toda Tailândia com guerras de água, música e folclore.
Eu gravei esse vídeo em 2018 em Chiang Mai mas só agora, quase um ano depois que eu consegui editar. Foi um pouco complicada a gravação, com a câmera sempre coberta de plástico e sem ver direito o que estava sendo gravado. Mas está ai, espero que gostem do resultado.
