Smith River: Patrick creek to Jedediah Smith State Park at High Water
The Smith River at high water or lower water is a pure joy to be on and gives an experince like being in wonderland. The Smith is in the most Northernest part of California and flows past the towns of Hiouchi and Gasquet. The original plan of the Creature Craft Crew was to put in on the North Fork of the Smith.Lots of snow changed that plan because the shuttle road was quite treacherous. While putting in at Patrick Creek Campground,BoatSmith 2019 was starting to take shape with boaters coming from all over the world to attend! With out fail being in Northen California it rained, hailed, and even snowed but that didn't dampen the spirits of anxious boaters ready to go boating!! The biggest rapid on the Smith River is Oregon Hole and gets more exiciting with a whole lot of water pumping into it!
On the Rise: Smith River, California
Trout Unlimited's camera crew visited Rock Creek Ranch on the South Fork Smith River in the winter of 2012 to film an episode for their TV program On the Rise. The episode aired on The Sportsman Channel the ensuing summer and features an interview with Grant Werschkull of Smith River Alliance, as well as wonderful footage of fly fishing for wild winter-run steelhead on the South Fork Smith.

SNOW Day on the Smith River!
Snow is a rare and magical sight here! We had so much fun filming the snow in the redwoods and on our favorite river. Featured are: Slant Bridge, Second Bridge, and the falls outside of Gasquet.

Wild and Scenic Smith River, California
—Gasquet, California
In Northwest California the North Fork of the Smith River meets the Middle Fork near the town of Gasquet on Highway 199. The river flows southwest and then northwest where it enters the Pacific at Smith River, about 10 miles north of Crescent City. Known for its crystal clear water and beautiful aqua-marines, it's prized as one of the crown jewels of the National Wild and Scenic River program.

Free Camping on the Smith River - Recreation Area in Northern California
The Smith River Recreation Area is a space where you can make a quick over-night stop which is a nice little spot. I found it on freecampsites.net and worked perfect for our needs. There was only one other person there in a tent. You could fit a couple of RV's and a couple tents in the area and there are not hookups. Of note, there is NO cell service (I have Verizon) but there is a phone help thingy right up the street.
