Ghost of Bandera - Texas Rebellion - Official Video
Ghost of Bandera; written by Chuck Osborn and Wes Hendrix; Copyright 2015 Texas Rebellion.
Lyrics:
Down in the town of Bandera
Where the ghost wind sets you free
That's where I met that young señorita
She walked in and stared right at me
One look into those deep, dark eyes
Her spell took control
That night Elena's love
Burned inside my soul
She danced with me in the cantina
Then in the morning light
The sun rose over those hills of Bandera
My arms still holding her tight
I didn't know, I never dreamed
It could happen that way
In the South Texas hills of Bandera
She stole my heart away
The Silver Spur and the Cowboy Bar
Two legends in their day
The spirit of the night blew in
And this stranger lost his way
I gave my love to that Mexican lady
Though it seemed like times of old
The sun's going down on these hills of Bandera
And that old west wind's gettin' cold
Her spirit was wild as that South Texas wind
I could see it in her face
The girl I loved was from the past
Only passing through this place
That fall morning I woke up
I looked around and she was gone
So here I am back in the cantina
Drinking tequila alone
That old portrait on the wall was from 1893
It was the face of Elena smiling down at me
As I looked into those dark eyes
I recalled how she made me feel
She came back for only one night
Now I know her love was real
The Silver Spur and the Cowboy Bar
Two legends in their day
The spirit of the night blew in
And this stranger lost his way
I gave my love to that Mexican lady
She was here but now she's gone
So here I am in a bar in Bandera
Drinking tequila alone
Yeah the sun's going down on these hills of Bandera
And I'm drinking tequila alone

Gary P Nunn with Jerry Jeff Walker - London Homesick Blues The Texas Connection
Gary P. Nunn is a Texas singer/songwriter whose career began in the 1960s with the Fabulous Sparkles before he settled in with the Lost Gonzo Band the following decade. Today he is a Texas institution, thanks to his frequent appearances, and songs that hail the state's culture and people. He got a taste of his future career in the seventh grade, when he joined a garage band. Later, he continued his education at South Plains College and Texas Tech University, gigging on weekends in West Texas. By 1968, he was a pharmacy major at the University of Texas, located in Austin. The city spawned country outlaws like Willie Nelson, who settled there in 1972, as did Jerry Jeff Walker and Michael Martin Murphy. He ended up playing bass for all three musicians at one point. By the 1970s, Nunn was backing Walker with the Lost Gonzo Band. His songwriting skills flourished during this time. Artists who recorded his tunes include David Allan Coe and Roseanne Cash, as well as Murphy, Nelson, and Walker. His skills paid off with platinum and gold records. Walker, Nunn, and the Lost Gonzo Band put out six albums through MCA Records over the course of four years. Nunn's time with Walker ended in 1977, and Nunn and the band put together three more albums, which were issued by Capital and MCA. In 1980, the Lost Gonzo Band dissolved. Nunn struck out on his own, minus help from any manager or agent. Since then, he publishes music, issues a newsletter to fans, and runs all aspects of his business, including his performance bookings. Nunn put out four albums through several independent labels before hooking up, in 1993, with Campfire Records, another independent based in San Antonio. The label released It's a Texas Thing in 2000. Mark White, governor of Texas in 1985, named Nunn the state's Official Ambassador to the World. The Texas Music Association's San Antonio division honored Nunn with its Award of Appreciation in 1990. Honors continued the following year, when Oklahoma's House of Representatives cited his contribution to southwestern music. In 1995, Nunn's name was included in Lubbock's West Texas Walk of Fame. Austin City Limits has made the songwriter's London Homesick Blues its theme for more than two decades. He continues to tour with the Sons of the Bunkhouse, his backing band. Nunn and his wife own and operate a cattle ranch in Oklahoma. ~ Linda Seida, Rovi

Creole | Shades of U.S.
Creole can refer to more than one thing, including ethnicity, language and food. In this month's episode, a New Orleans author gives voice to Creole communities, a Haiti-born linguist fights for the Haitian Creole language, and a chef builds a following for his Haitian-Creole food. This episode is hosted by CUNY TV reporter Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson.
(Taped: 6/06/2019)
When you take a look in the mirror, what do you see? Shades of U.S. is a series, that focuses on race and ethnicity through people’s’ journeys of self-identity. It explores multiracialism at a time when the country's population is shifting drastically. The subject's personal stories are a microcosm of the United States own struggles with racial politics.

The Best of OMA: One who May Ascend full ASCENDING Mixtape
Author's Note about ASCENDING...
During the 2-year writing period for ASCENDING, I only wrote what I felt, documented in a more revised form, appealing to listeners. There was no end in mind, no concept of the-best-of-three-albums-in-a-single-mix-tape, not even the title 'ASCENDING', only the reoccurring theme of life as I envisioned it, illustrated by what I was going through. At the time when I was writing 'Words of WAR', I was a 4-year die-hard, unfaltering believer of the Christian faith. I slowly but surely came to the realization that not all Christian's level of involvement was identical, more than often reflecting a much more tame lifestyle than that of the radical Jesus Christ whom I believed changed my life. This troubled me greatly. Thus, 'Tales from the Dark Side of the Moon' was born, an in-depth perspective analyzing not only life and my faith (with a still all-present hint of what I would've been willing to do for Christ, given dire circumstances), but the purposeful examination of life without my faith. As any worthy artist will tell you, over time as you meditate on the effect of the subject-matter of his or her art, the more the subject-matter has a direct effect on them. The result of this ongoing process and the ever-changing reality of life produced 'Detour', the evolution of 'Tales from the Dark Side of the Moon' -- documentation of an extra unexpected journey changing the course of my life. The main event being not the abandoning of my faith in Christ altogether, but rather its postponement, whether temporary or permanent. To this day, I'm still not quite sure of the cause to 'drop my cross', other than fact that lack of necessity had something to do with it. The concept of 'Detour' was that we all have an imminent destiny in life which we will reach and - favorable or otherwise - we will indeed reach it. The detours in life are only the periodic stops between now and then. In essence, the final product, 'ASCENDING' is the depiction of a young man's struggle with the meaning of life as well as his place in it -- something appropriate for this generation - and as bizarre as the ideas and content presented in this mix-tape may seem, they are not far-fetched from The Truth (if not, my most sincere attempt towards it), the real goal. I hope that you enjoy this journey of life as much as I have so far, for now and for years to come. Thank you.
-OMA
