USA - Southern Hospitality 2011 - Bourbon Street, New Orleans (Pt. 1)
July 11, 2011. My first night in a city I've waited decades to finally visit, New Orleans. Easily one of the coolest, unique, and most character-driven cities I've seen on the continent, if not in the world. And Bourbon Street is an open-air bazaar of booze and debautchery, as you can see here at the corner of Rue Bourbon and Rue St. Peter. Gotta love N'awlins.
WHO DAT!?
PS - I do not own any of the music I heard in this video but I did appreciate it.
PPS - So they had WHAT and whiskey there?
USA - Southern Hospitality 2011 - New Orleans Katrina Damage
July 12, 2011. Sophie and I went on a guided 2-hour bus-tour on our second day in New Orleans, where we got to see everything from the French Quarter to downtown to the garden district to music scenes and above ground cemeteries. Here, we spent some time in the Ninth Ward, aka the poorer areas of New Orleans, which were hit the hardest by Hurricane Katrina back in August 2005. The man speaking is Dino, our tour guide, explaining what the symbols on the doors of the houses in this area meant during the rescue efforts.
USA - Southern Hospitality 2011 - New Olreans Above-Ground Cemetery
July 12, 2011. Sophie and I went on a guided 2-hour bus-tour on our second day in New Orleans, where we got to see everything from the French Quarter to downtown to the garden district to music scenes and above ground cemeteries. Here, we spent some time in an above-ground cemetery, which is unique to New Orleans because it is located below sea level.
The man speaking is Dino, our tour guide, explaining why being below sea level affects these gravesites.

July 12, 2011. Whilst randomly walking through the french quarter, Sophie and I caught these locals offering free tries to passers-by to skip rope with them. The large woman there fails, but sure gives it a good try.

When you hear Louisiana, you could think of New OrleansMardi Gras, the French Quarter or Hurricane Katrina. Maybe some of the current 'reality TV' programs like Swamp People or Billy the Exterminator - but there's a whole Louisiana out there not talked about.
From a beautiful sunrise over green forests, rolling farm fields and morning mist to a deep history of logging, Louisiana is much more than you think. Southern hospitality and pride are evident at the tourist stop where we were showered with information - and we will be back to explore this beautiful state.

USA - Southern Hospitality 2011 - Welcome to Louisiana
July 11, 2011. Sophie and I just crossed the state line from Texas and entered Louisiana, where we stopped by at this picturesque tourist centre at the side of the swamp. I wanted to go swimming but I couldn't; in Louisiana, if you can't see the bottom, you don't go swimming.
Oh, and that shirt is something I got at the Houston Space Center. Size Matters...just ask Pluto.

USA - Southern Hospitality 2011 - Alligator Sausage
July 12, 2011. New Orleans is well known for his cuisine, so I made sure I tried something truly unique to the region. Gumbo, jambalaya, and po-boys are all great, but I never imagined I would actually try alligator sausage.
It was tough, but tasty.
I apologize for the volume of the music. I didn't notice it at Oceana's, the restaurant we were at, but dang, did my camera pick it up or what?

Mississippi Delta: Blues Trail road trip
Louisiana may be the birthplace of Jazz, but Mississippi Delta, is where the Blues were born! Music, comfort food and southern hospitality run deep in the Delta. My journey followed Highway 61, which is also known as the “Blues Trail.” One could argue that Highway 61 rivals Route 66, certainly for its musical significance.
I found the Mississippi Delta to exude charm and hospitality, while its music permeated my soul and found a place in my heart.

USA - Southern Hospitality 2011 - Beignets at Cafe du Monde
July 12, 2011. Sophie and I regularly stopped by Cafe du Monde, in the French Quarter of New Orleans on the shores of the Mississippi River, to have a New Orleans dessert delicassy: the beignet (bay-nay). They are delicious indeed, but sooooo bad for you.
I start choking at the end of the video because I accidentally inhaled a good chunk of that powdered sugar and it went down the wrong way.
