Inventions can come from anyone who has a spark of creativity | Denny Daniel | TEDxFultonStreet
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. What do Edison's original recording device, a parachute for pigeons, and a candle-powered lantern have in common? (For that matter, why do birds need parachutes at all?) Denny answers these questions and more, by demonstrating technological artifacts from a bygone era, for our amusement and enlightenment. As he says to the children and adults he educates, Don't ever let anyone make things seem too complicated.
Denny Daniel is the curator and founder of The Museum of Interesting Things – a traveling interactive demonstration/exhibition of antique technologies and inventions. Ever a showman, he visits schools and events, inspiring kids and adults to be curious and to tinker.
As curator of The Museum of Interesting Things, Daniel has appeared in over 20 TV and radios shows, including Oddities and Pawn Stars, and featured in numerous articles in periodicals such as The New York Times, Timeout, and The Chronicle.
The Museum of Interesting Things has exhibited at: The Mutter Ball, The Intrepid Museum, Lockheed Martin Science Festival Washington DC, The International Youth Hostels 75th Anniversary, World Science Festival, TED Youth, MakerFaire, Coney Island, SteamPunk City Mass and World’s Faire, and National Night Out Against Crime NYC.

His Burger is UNBELIEVABLE (Best in Bangkok)
What if I told you that you could eat the BEST BURGER IN BANGKOK, and pay whatever you want? If you love it, pay $15 or $20. If you hate it, pay $0.
This is the story of a young man named Taiki, who spends 6 hours every day making 4 burgers for a very exclusive list of people to eat. Yes, he spends more than 1 hour to hand-craft each burger from scratch - every little detail to perfection!
Taiki was introduced to burgers when he was living in Washington State a few summers ago. When he returned to Bangkok, he realized there weren't any good burger joints in town -- so he built up the courage to do it all himself.
This is one of my favorite videos I've ever made. I have a pretty good feeling that his future restaurant of Homeburg will be famous someday very soon. This video is only the start!!
Side note to this video, I met Taiki because his kitchen just happens to be in the same building of my co-working space where I eat lunch everyday. I always see him working his a** off every day cooking burgers, so I approached him only to discover his inspiring story. What a guy!

THE STORY
Days after stepping off the train, 14-year old Emmett Till from Chicago goes missing in Money, Mississippi. Later, the boy's mutilated body is found in a river. William Bradford Huie of Look magazine interviews the people of Money to get at the root of what happened. The two men acquitted for the boy's murder, Roy Bryant Jr. and J.W. Milam, agree to sit down to discuss the trial. Not a word had been uttered outside a courtroom by them or their kin, until now...
DAR HE: The Lynching of Emmett Till, is the TRUE STORY crafted from the public record: a transfixing, true-dramatization of the historic interviews and events surrounding the murder that became a lightning rod for moral outrage and pivotal in inspiring a whole generation of young people to commit to social change in the 1950s. 'His death was a spark that ignited the Civil Rights Movement in America,' Ed Bradley, Emmy Award-winning journalist.
The film was adapted from the play written and performed by Mike Wiley, Dar He: The Story of Emmett Till.

Neuroscience and Society Series: Creativity, Genius and the Brain
Scientists often cite Isaac Newton when crediting the work of others who have come before them: If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. Who are those “giants”? We know they are not limited to the sciences. Music has them. So does art. As well as literature. Do these giants possess the characteristics of genius and creativity in larger doses than the rest of us? What makes a genius? Why are some people so much more creative than others? How do people “become” creative or a genius? What influence do brain and environment have in developing and nurturing genius or creativity? These and other questions are the focus of this public event. Speakers addressed circumstances necessary to produce a cultural environment that nurtures creativity; the role of epiphanies in the creative thinking process; and how science can contribute to enhanced creativity.

S6 E5: State Of Creativity
Using key data from the newest issue of the Otis Report on the Creative Economy, this documentary explores the vibrant network of creativity in Southern California, examining how creative businesses are investing in community building and driving economic activity in Boyle Heights, the network of industries involved in the denim manufacturing of boutique denim firm Buck Mason, the underlying educational network and issues of access to arts education at Inner-City Arts, the triangulation between artist, gallerist, and major museum as seen in the work of renowned artist Charles Gaines and his retrospective at the Hammer Museum, and how innovation and creativity are essential elements in design innovation at JPL and Boeing.

What does it mean to be white? | Anne Rhodes | TEDxIthacaCollege
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. This talk is an investigation about what it means to be white, an inquiry into the definition, the experience, and the implications of being white. What does being white do to someone? What is the relationship between being white and ethnicity, class, or religious affiliation? What is the impact of being white on the white community? What is “whiteness”? Is it a problem? Can it be redefined?
Anne Rhodes has worked for many years doing anti-bias work in Ithaca – at Cornell, Ithaca College, with faculty, staff and administration in area public schools, and in the community - including work on racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, anti-semitism, ageism, and able-ism. She founded the Homophobia Educators Network, co-led a Round Two MRC Talking Circle for white allies. and helped start the White Allies Against Racism group. She is also a theater artist, writer, and Teaching Artist, supporting arts in education partnerships between cultural organizations and schools for the past 30 years across New York State, developing arts integration programs and providing professional development for teachers to integrate the arts with curriculum and promote more critical and creative thinking in young people. In 2009, Anne started Dryden Solutions to encourage sustainability projects and strengthen community in the Town of Dryden. In 2010, she received a Civic Leaders Fellowship from Cornell to support this work. Anne is currently on the planning group for the Building Bridges Initiative, and on the GreenStar Community Projects planning group for Food System Networking.

Tom Kelley, David Kelley: Creative Confidence | Talks at Google
Tom and David Kelley stop by the Googleplex for a talk on creativity. This conversation was moderated by Frederik Pferdt, Head of Innovation and Creativity Programs at Google. You can find the book on Google Play: .
IDEO founder and Stanford d.school creator David Kelley and his brother Tom Kelley, IDEO partner and the author of the bestselling The Art of Innovation, have written a powerful and compelling book on unleashing the creativity that lies within each and every one of us.
Too often, companies and individuals assume that creativity and innovation are the domain of the creative types. But two of the leading experts in innovation, design, and creativity on the planet show us that each and every one of us is creative. In an incredibly entertaining and inspiring narrative that draws on countless stories from their work at IDEO, the Stanford d.school, and with many of the world's top companies, David and Tom Kelley identify the principles and strategies that will allow us to tap into our creative potential in our work lives, and in our personal lives, and allow us to innovate in terms of how we approach and solve problems. It is a book that will help each of us be more productive and successful in our lives and in our careers.
Us and them: A story we can't help telling: David Berreby at TEDxHendrixCollege
David Berreby is the author of Us and Them: The Science of Identity, and has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Slate, and many other publications. David also writes a blog called Mind Matters at bigthink.com.
