Speicherstadt Walking Tour, Hamburg, Germany 4k UHD
The century-old Speicherstadt, the world's largest contiguous warehouse complex, is located in the Freihafen (free-port) between Deichtorhallen and Baumwall. An idyll that one would hardly imagine finding in a world port waits there for visitors to Hamburg. Wilhelmine brick Gothic from the late nineteenth century, bizarre gables and turrets which reflect the barges in the canals.
The Speicherstadt, a Hamburg landmark, is one of the main attractions in the great harbour tour. The world's largest integrated complex of warehouses was built in 1883, five years before Hamburg received its free port. Since 1991, the unique district has been given historic monument protection. The warehouses are built on oak piles and the district is crossed by what are known as fleets - canals that are flooded depending on the tides and can then also be travelled by ship. You can travel the narrow canals in small barges to savour the architectural details if the tide is right. A canal tour with a historic barge like this is an unforgettable experience. Most tours depart from the landing stages in St. Pauli. Groups can even charter a whole barge.

Speicherstadt Hamburg - the historic Warehouse District (Boat Tour) Germany
Speicherstadt is the world's largest warehouse complex, located between Deichtorhallen and Baumwall in Hamburg Germany. It is located in the port of Hamburg—within the HafenCity quarter—and was built from 1883 to 1927. Precious goods like tea, coffee, spices, cocoa, tobacco, computers, and oriental carpets and rugs are stored here.
Built at the turn of the last century, it constitutes an important Hamburg landmark and is one of the main attractions of the harbor boat trips. Take a close look at the architectural details as you float along the narrow canals. The reflections of the romantic Wilhelmine Gothic style constructions with their peculiar turrets and gables convey an idyllic atmosphere.
To learn more about its traditional and current functions, you can take a guided tour of the district or visit one of the various museums. At the Hamburg Dungeon, professional actors, exciting shows and rides will take you to the dark side of Hamburg's past where you're definitely in for a good scare! Or visit the world's largest digitally operated model railroad at Miniatur Wunderland with realistic reproductions of Hamburg's popular districts, parts of Austria, Scandinavia, the USA, and Switzerland. Dialog im Dunkeln (Dialog in the Dark) is another highlight -- there is nothing to see but lots to discover! Experience for yourself how sightless people perceive the world.
At sunset, the Speicherstadt is engulfed in a mysterious atmosphere when the facades of the red brick buildings and steel bridges are artfully illuminated. Enjoy this magical moment along with the aromatic scents of commodities from all over the world.

Hamburg - Welterbekandidat Speicherstadt | Hin & weg

Hamburg, Hafencity, Speicherstadt - Germany, Deutschland HD Travel Channel
The Speicherstadt (city of warehouses) in Hamburg is part of HafenCity (port city, a district of Hamburg) and was originally part of the free port. The warehouse district, founded on timber-piles, was expanded continuously since 1883.
6 loading canals, the so-called Fleete, facilitated the transport to and from the warehouses. Since 1991 the warehouse district is classified as a historical monument.
Today the development of the port city is characterized by residential and office buildings. A new overseas terminal for great passenger liners was built here.
Many carpet dealers and a few companies trading tea and coffee are located in the warehouses. During a visit to the coffee roaster in the warehouse district of Hamburg you can enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the roasting process.
The cultural value of the district has been increased; a number of museums and theaters as well as the biggest model railway in the world have found a location here. The provisionally crowning completion will be carried out with the inauguration of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall.

Germany: The Speicherstadt in Hamburg
The Speicherstadt district in Hamburg is the largest on oak piles founded warehouse complex in the world and is a protected historical monument since 1991.
The warehouse district, with around 25 hectares of land (including the fleets) is an island with a length of about 1,5 km in the river Elbe in the north-eastern part of the port of Hamburg.
The building of the Speicherstadt started in 1883. In 1898 was the Speicherstadt was for to two-thirds completed. The other works in the eastern part were ended at the beginning of the First World War in 1914.
The warehouses - in neogothic brick architecture - are each on one side connected to the water (the fleet) and on the other side to the road. Cargo (like coffee, tea and spices) was stored on five floors and each house has its own winch mounted on the wall.
Today, the usable area of the Speicherstadt is approximately 630,000 square meters and is home to numerous carpet dealers, agencies and various museums, such as the Speicherstadt Museum, the Customs Museum or the Spice Museum.
