Located on the south shore of Honolulu, the world-famous neighborhood of Waikiki was once a playground for Hawaiian royalty. Known in Hawaiian as spouting waters, Waikiki was introduced to the world when its first hotel, the Moana Surfrider, was built on its shores in 1901. Today, Waikiki is Oahu's main hotel and resort area and a vibrant gathering place for visitors from around the world. Along the main strip of Kalakaua Avenue you'll find world-class shopping, dining, entertainment, activities and resorts.
Waikiki is most famous for its beaches and every room is just two or three blocks away from the sea. With Leahi (Diamond Head) as your backdrop, the calm waters of Waikiki are perfect for a surfing lesson. In fact, legendary Hawaiian waterman Duke Kahanamoku grew up surfing the waves of Waikiki. This Olympic gold medalist in swimming actually taught visitors how to surf at the turn of the century and was later known as The father of modern surfing. Today, the Waikiki Beach Boys perpetuate Duke's legacy by teaching visitors how to surf and canoe and the Duke Kahanamoku Statue has become an iconic symbol of Waikiki.
But there's more to Waikiki than just the beach. Attractions of Waikiki like the Honolulu Zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium offer fun for the whole family. You can learn about the history of Waikiki by reading the surfboard markers along the Waikiki Historical Trail. Among the various things to do, fantastic shopping and dining can be found all along Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues and at gathering places like the Royal Hawaiian Center and the Waikiki Beach Walk. And the fun keeps going long after the Waikiki sunset with amazing nightlife and live music.
Best of all, Waikiki is within a half hour of a variety of Oahu attractions, including Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace, the Nuuanu Pali Lookout and Hanauma Bay. Other notable points of interest nearby include Ala Moana Center, the local neighborhood of Kapahulu and the arts district of Chinatown.
From Hawaiian royalty to Hawaii Regional Cuisine, Waikiki continues to be an evolving expression of the ancient spirit of aloha. On these famous shores, the past and the future are uniting in fresh and surprising ways.

Oahu Hawaii - The Crown Jewel Of the Hawaiian Islands - Honolulu Hawaii
Oahu Hawaii Is the most visited Hawaiian Island and its for a very good reason. Oahu, Honolulu, Waikiki Beach and the north shore off an iconic experience in the Hawaiian Islands.

My favorite Island in Hawaii which really surprised me. I was expecting either Maui or Kauai to take that prize but seeing is believing.
This video Oahu video will give you an idea of what to expect on your visit to Oahu so you can hopefully maximize your time in The Islands. There is so much to do that you may not be able to see everything on one visit. My first visit to Oahu Hawaii was at the end of a Hawaiian cruise from Vancouver British Columbia Canada. My ship visited the four major islands and the cruise ended in Honolulu us to stay a couple of nights so we would have plenty of time to circle the island.
Some of the most popular attractions on Oahu Hawaii are Waikiki Beach, hiking up Diamond Head, Visiting the royal palace, the Pearl Harbor Arizona Memorial, And the main surfing beaches on the North Shore which offers some of the best surfing in the world.
Everyone has their favorite Hawaiian island for a variety of reasons. This was my first time to the islands so I felt fortunate to be able to see all four of the main islands and make up my mind for myself. Just about everyone that has been to the Islands told me Maui was the best and that Oahu was crowded, expensive and

Hawai`i Renaissance - Standing on Sacred Ground
Watch Native Hawaiians call back the rain, and use indigenous ecological and spiritual practices to restore the sacred island of Kaho`olawe after 50 years of military use as a bombing range.
This scene comes from the Islands of Sanctuary episode of the four-part series, Standing on Sacred Ground. The episode also tells of Australia's Northern Territory where Aboriginal clans maintain Indigenous Protected Areas and resist the destructive effects of a mining boom.
Standing on Sacred Ground chronicles indigenous people in eight communities around the world standing up for their traditional sacred lands in defense of cultural survival, human rights and the environment. Watch them stand against industrial mega-projects, consumer culture, resource extraction, competing religions, tourists and climate change.
Standing on Sacred Ground was produced by the Sacred Land Film Project, a project of Earth Island Institute. To deepen public understanding of sacred places, indigenous cultures and environmental justice, the Film Project produces a variety of media and educational materials—films, videos, DVDs, articles, photographs, school curricula and other materials. The Sacred Land Film Project uses journalism, organizing and activism to rekindle reverence for land, increase respect for cultural diversity, stimulate dialogue about connections between nature and culture, and protect sacred lands and diverse spiritual practices.

What is Hawaiʻi, What is Aloha 2012
This video shares the special aloha spirit of Hawaiʻi in a way that has rarely been done before. Produced by Pono Shim and Don Mapes for non-profit Enterprise Honolulu, the video is to promote the islands as a special place of spirit and innovation. The video is based on the teaching of Aunty Pilahi Paki who was called the keeper of Hawaiʻiʻs secrets. Although she passed away in 1985 she prophesied that the world would come to Hawaiʻi in the 21st century to find the answer to world peace. That answer...aloha. Produced with the cooperation of numerous organizations who donated footage, the video invites others to come to our islands to partner to find solutions to the worldʻs problems. This video is posted by Pono Shim of Enterprise Honolulu.

Number 10: Kaimuki House of Horrors.
This is one of the most famous spooky places in Hawaii because, according to all accounts – it’s the most haunted one. It’s located in a residential part of Honolulu, called Kaimuki, right on the corner of 8th and Harding. Judging by its appearance, the house looks completely normal. Nothing strange or spooky. But there’s more to it than that.
There is a legend that an evil ghost lives in the house, and that it’s a Kasha – a Japanese ghost, destined to feed of the blood and corpses. Throughout the years, many people came to this house, either to live in it permanently or rent it for vacation, but they were all – terrified. There were strange noises, screams, but even worse things than that. In 1942, police were called to the house, where a woman was screaming “she’s trying to take my children”. And the policemen saw the children being thrown around by some invisible presence. And this is just one of the instances when supernatural forces were at work in the Kaimuki house. No one’s sure what the cause of it all is, but many people speculate that it all started when a man killed his wife and two children in the house; his wife and son were found buried in the backyard, but the daughter was lost forever…
Number 9: Kamehameha's Bones.
Kamehameha is one of the most important and most celebrated rulers of Hawaii. He is also known as Kamehameha the Great, because he unified the separated islands of Hawaii into a single state. Kamehameha died in 1819, but his exact burial place is still kept secret.
The ancient Hawaiians had a developed system of burial rituals, but they were not the same for all people. The funeral rites that were used for higher-ups, such as chiefs, were much more complex, and they had an additional aura of solemnity to them. After the funeral rites, Kamehameha’s bones were hidden, never to be found. But this was not done simply to prevent anyone from finding the late ruler’s bones – it was also a part of a bigger custom, called “hunakele”. The word “hunakele” can be translated as “hiding in secret”, and the idea behind it was to prevent an enemy of getting the deceased bones, thus absorbing his power, called “mana”. It is still not known where Kamehameha’s bones are, but many believe that they are buried in a sacred cave on the Big Island.
Number 8: Old Pali Road.
This is one of those places full of supernatural stories and haunted legends. Nowadays, the road gave way to a modern highway, but the legends and spooky stories are still here.
Throughout the years, there have been many sightings of supernatural beings, and many strange accidents occurred. Many of those accidents are still unexplained. There were people who have seen a strange-looking being, resembling a ghost, that was crossing the road and surprising the coming drivers. Another very interesting fact is that, near this road, there is a place called Nu'uanu Pali Lookout, which is one of the most important locations in Hawaiian history. Nu'uanu Pali is where King Kamehameha fought a major battle during the struggle for Hawaiian Unification. On this location, there is also a ghostly creature roaming about at night, haunting everyone who comes near it…
Number 7: The Haunted Iolani Palace.
This is one of the most haunted places on the island of Oahu, as many people have claimed all kinds of supernatural occurrences there. These things have become so common that nobody seems to notice them anymore. The Iolani Palace is the home of the Hawaiian monarchy, and thousands of people come to visit it every year. It is located in downtown Honolulu, and to this day – there are all kinds of spooky stories going on there. Everyone, from palace guards to tourist guides and tourist have claimed that very strange things are happening inside Iolani Palace. For example, there is a piano in the palace that’s always kept locked in a glass case. However, although the security guards do not have the key to the glass case, they can often hear the piano being played at night. It’s never a melody, or a chord, but a random sequence of notes, one after the other, in no particular order. When they tried to capture this on security cameras, they were amazed: the piano keys were not moving, but the music kept being played. And this is just one of those supernatural things Iolani is famous for…

Hawaiian Islands
The Hawaiian Islands each have their own spirit and vibe. I visited Kona, Maui and Kauai for this episode of Travel Channel's Not Your Average Travel Guide. I produced, shot, wrote, edited and hosted this series from 2006-2007.
Flying in a helicopter over the mountain of fire, Kileuea volcano is awesome. Kauai is chill, lush and a gem, Maui rocks!
