The Spiro Mounds Archeological site in Eastern Oklahoma is a quiet and peaceful place now. So it's hard to imagine that this spot was once a bustling center of commerce and religion that was literally the capitol of the known world. But it's true.

SPIRO MOUNDS MYSTERY OF THE MOUND BUILDERS GIANTS & OUT OF PLACE ARTIFACTS
There have been many stories of giant skeletons found all over North America. Many people believe these giants are the Nephilim from the Bible. One giant skeleton was reportedly found at the Spiro Mounds according to news articles from the 1930's and stories from the Pocola mining company. Skeletons with elongated heads were reported. Copper artifacts, beads, strange burial masks with horns, and many large spear heads were among the thousands of artifacts. One artifact, a quartz effigy locust is quite amazing. How did they make this? Is there a connection between this site, and Cahokia? Many effigy pipes found here were made at that famous site. Is there a connection to the giant skeletons found in the Ohio River Valley? What about the strange stories of blue lights around the burial mound at night as reported by a previous owner? Why were all the mules afraid to stay in the barn by the burial mound? These and other questions are still unanswered. I explore some of these areas in this video with the hopes of making a part two in the future to dive a little deeper.

Vlog #328: After getting turned away from mining gems, we found an alternate place to explore some ancient ruins at Spiro Mounds, Oklahoma. These people mostly farmed this area 900-1250 AD, and are the ancestors to Native Americans. The mounds have mostly been looted and restored, but it makes for an interesting stop in OK!

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year. At Spiro Mounds, the mound builders marked the solstices and the equinoxes by the layout of the mounds. Every year, the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center holds walks on the summer solstice. I hope you enjoy the pictures and video clips from this year's walk. Spiro Mounds Artifacts at Leflore County Museum
We made a trip to the Old Lowrey Hotel in Poteau, Ok which is now home to the Leflore Country Museum to search for Spiro Mounds Artifacts that were donated by Glen Cooper. We found thousands of beads, conch shells, copper ear spools, copper fragments and tools.
The Spiro Mounds were part of the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex which also comprises of the Serpent Mound in Ohio. Interesting!! This hotel is also reported haunted. We plan to make another trip there soon to make another video about this old hotel.

Spiro Archaeological Site: Travels on the Path of Souls with Kent Reilly
Ancient treasure recovered from a hollow chamber (The Spirit Lodge) found within the Craig Mound at the Spiro archaeological site in eastern Oklahoma is the topic of this in-depth talk by anthropologist Kent Reilly. An ancient Native American ritual event occurred ca. AD 1400 that encompassed an interment and an establishment of a priestly office. Learn how the act of creating a ritual stage that, for the people who created it, was a permanent and perpetually ongoing ritual performance of cosmic significance.

Archaeological Sites on Corps Property
The Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has more than 4500 archaeological sites on its property in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. We are always interested in working with archaeologists, anthropologists and historians to allow studies of these sites. Most have never been excavated. Professors from the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University are working together to ensure the history and cultural treasures that lie beneath the soil on these sites are unearthed and shared with the descendants of those who lived there.
This particular site along the Arkansas River in Oklahoma was a trading center for the Wichita Tribe of Indians and French traders.

Prehistoric relics of earthen mound builders excavated and shown in Spiro Oklahoma
A quiet one street rural western town with a single car on the road and wooden simple buildings on either side. A large earth mound seen. Several men dig with shovels and pick axes into the mound and retrieve prehistoric Native American Indian relics. Native American Indian implements, ornaments, artwork beads, weapons, and money discovered in the earthen mound in Spiro. The remarkable relics are examined by a man and shown being held and in display cases. (The relics are from a pre-Columbian Caddoan Mississippian culture. In mounds like these, the people performed religious rituals). Location: Arkansas United States. Date: January 22, 1936.
