Tokyo, a city of 30 million, is a place where traditions and modern inventions live together. From the Tokyo Tower one can see only skyscrapers, palaces made of concrete and glass, multi-level highway junctions and monorail expresses. But under the neon lights there are still rickshaw runners pulling their carts and geishas walking in their wooden shoes. The ornamented pagodas, the Japanese gardens, the calm Shintoist sanctuaries tell us about the age of shoguns and ninjas. The digital cameras and the swords of the samurais can be found at the same store. In the restaurants one can have sushi, sukiyaki and tempura sitting on a tatami, using chopsticks. We can take a look at the masterpieces of ikebana and origami and the pictures painted on rice paper. The travelers can take a trip to the ancient city of Kyoto, to the giant Buddha of Kamakura, to the warm springs and to the Sacred Mountain, Fujiyama, where the cherry trees are blossoming at the foot of the hills.

NAGOYA, JAPAN trip: Nagoya Castle and Meijo Park | Vlog 1
Nagoya (or 名古屋 in Japanese) is an important city in Central Japan. There are many things to do in Nagoya City, and we start our visit enjoying the Nagoya Castle (名古屋城). Nagoya Castle was very important historically and contributed to Nagoya's growth over the centuries.
This is the first video of our Nagoya, Japan trip. The entire series will be available here:
After the Nagoya castle, we went for a walk in the neighborhood to explore the Cultural Path. It joins various historical constructions, like the former residence of Sasuke Toyoda. Yes, the Toyoda family (founders of Toyota Motors) is from this region. We returned to the castle area to see Meijo Park before getting back to the hotel.

► WHO AM I?
Short answer: I am a Brazilian journalist living in the United States. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

Miyazaki | Japan's natural paradise
We made it to Miyazaki thanks to !
More travel videos on Odigo:
Miyazaki is easily the most beautiful prefecture we've been to so far, and it didn't make it in this video but it's also the prefecture that founded chicken nanban, THE BEST JAPANESE FOOD DISH EVER. Miyazaki is said to produce the best chicken in Japan (which my tastebuds can confirm) because their chickens are free-ranging and healthy. Chicken nanban in Miyazaki is a 10000% ABSOLUTE MUST if you can eat chicken.
The places we went in this video are Takachiho Gorge, Aya Teruha suspension bridge, and Udo Jingu. There's so much nature to explore, and because Miyazaki is so far out of the way there aren't as many tourists here as there are in most places in Honshu so you can still get a feel of the untouched nature.

Why Japan's Homeless are Different from North America's (Part 1)
One day while walking around Shinjuku, a major hub for government and business in Tokyo, Japan, I noticed a shelter built by a homeless man. It looked semi-permanent, but more importantly, had solar panels on it. I thought this was very different than the homeless I encountered in my former city of Vancouver, Canada, so I started to investigate homelessness in Japan.
I was lucky enough to interview Professor Tom Gill, who has researched homelessness and other societal issues in Japan for many years.
This is part 1 of a series of videos I'm making about the homeless in Japan. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave in the comments. Thanks for watching.

Shinjuku, Tokyo - Kabukicho, Ichiran Ramen, Golden Gai | Japan travel guide (vlog 4)
Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan! Shinjuku is one of the most unique districts in Tokyo. It's where you find Kabukicho (the famous red-light district), Godzilla head, Omoide Yokocho (Piss Alley), Golden Gai and, why not? Ichiran Ramen. This is not an attraction per se, but Ichiran Ramen restaurant is also considered by many a must-visit in Tokyo, whether you do it in Shinjuku or another district. Japan ramen is really delicious! If you're in Japan for the Rugby World Cup 2019, make sure you visit Shinjuku.
We start by visiting the observation deck of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building. Totally free and really nice view! From there we pass in front of Shinjuku station, the busiest transport hub in the world, and keep walking to Omoide Yokocho or Piss Alley (the famed drinking street). We then cross Kabukicho, the well-known red-light district in Tokyo, see the Godzilla head come alive, walk through Golden Gai alleyways and finally end up at Ichiran Ramen for an enormous and fantastic bowl of ramen.

HISTORY OF IDEAS - Wabi-sabi
At the heart of Japanese philosophy and wisdom lies a concept called ‘wabi-sabi’; a term which denotes a commitment to the everyday, the melancholic, the somewhat broken and the imperfect. It’s a term we need a lot more of in our lives.

Antique Dented Oiler - Perfect Restoration
In this video i'm restoring an antique dented oiler.
My friend found this oiler in the steel waste at the recycling station. I really liked the unique design of it and I bought it from him for $5. It almost had no rust, but it was very dirty and had a lot of dents. The tricky part of this restoration was definitely the removing of all the dents in the can. I want to say thank you to my friend who helped me with this and to his boss, who allowed him to use the tools from his work place. Check out his website (huegli.swiss), they do car body repair in Zurich Switzerland. I'm very happy how it turned out and I really like the new look of the oiler. I'll keep this oiler in my shop and I'm going to use it from now on.
I hope you like my work and the video.

As you may have noticed, we like to blow stuff up on this channel. So when the International Red Cross approached us to collaborate on a video about nuclear weapons, we were more than excited.
Until we did the research. It turned out we were a bit oblivious off the real impact of nuclear weapons in the real world, on a real city. And especially, how helpless even the most developed nations on earth would be if an attack occurred today.
So hopefully this video demonstrates how extremely non fun a real world nuclear attack would be, without being too gruesome. This collaboration was a blast (no pun intended) and we want to say a huge thank you to the International Red Cross!

Is marijuana bad for your brain? - Anees Bahji
Explore how marijuana’s two main active compounds, THC and CBD, affect your brain and body, and what risk factors to watch out for.
--
In 1970, marijuana was classified as a schedule 1 drug in the United States: the strictest designation possible, meaning it was completely illegal and had no recognized medical uses. Today, marijuana’s therapeutic benefits are widely acknowledged, but a growing recognition for its medical value doesn’t answer the question: is recreational marijuana use bad for your brain? Anees Bahji investigates.

Sushi Omakase - PERFECT Japanese Food Sushi by Chef Hiroyuki Sato at Sri Panwa, Phuket!
This was the best Japanese sushi experience I’ve ever had!
►Follow David Califa:
►Sri Panwa:
►Subscribe for more food videos:
This was a spur of the moment trip, but my friend David ( organized a Japanese food pop-pup including some of Japan’s best sushi and best wagyu Kobe beef to be served at Sri Panwa resort in Phuket. When David wrote me and invited me, I was more than thrilled to come, and we hopped on a plane the next day to fly from Bangkok to Phuket. It turned out to be one of the ultimate gourmet food experiences I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve never had sushi like this ever!
Master sushi chef Hiroyuki Sato, of the Michelin starred restaurant 鮨とかみ (Sushi Tokami) in Tokyo, flew to Phuket, bringing with him fish straight from Tsukiji market that morning. He sliced up most of the tuna and other fish in the afternoon and was ready to serve it at night for the sushi pop up.
We checked into Sri Panwa, and got all settled in our room. The best thing about the villa for me was the personal saltwater pool. Sri Panwa is a very high end resort, but it’s beautiful and you get so much privacy.
Before heading to the sushi event, we first had a drink and hung out with David at Baba Nest, a rooftop bar and lounge at Sri Panwa, overlooking the oceans and surrounding mountains. The scenery and relaxing environment has made Baba Nest one of the world’s more renowned rooftop bars in the world.
We were served omakase style, the chef’s table, and just the special fish that he had prepared for the meal.

What was amazing about eating sushi with Master Sushi Chef Hiroyuki Sato is that he is such an amazingly friendly guy, and so not only was the sushi by far the best quality I’ve ever had in my life, but eating pieces of sushi that he passed me directly from his hand after making it, is what really increased the experience.
It was no doubt the best sushi meal I’ve ever had in my life. Absolutely a life changing experience. Big thank you to the chef, David, Sri Panwa for hosting this event and organizing it!
DISCLOSURE: I was not paid to make this video. But I was invited to attend this sushi event at Sri Panwa, and I did not pay for my stay or for the meal.

___________
The Onin War tore Japan apart, but also kicked off the Sengoku Jidai or Warring States Period that's a seminal part of Japanese history. The power of the shogun dissolved and regional clan leaders or daimyo fought for control of the country. In the mid 16th century, near Kyoto, a clan called the Matsudaira found itself pinched between two great rivals: the Oda and the Imagawa. Abducted as a hostage by the Oda, the scion of the Matsudaira clan (the young Tokugawa Ieyasu) grew up to fight alongside of the Imagawa when he was released. Their combined forces threatened to destroy the entire Oda clan, but Oda Nobunaga had a different idea. They clashed at the Battle of Okehazama.
