The Spring Temple Buddha statue is second tallest statue in the world. Standing at 153 m (503 ft) it is a truly awesome sight to behold. It reminds me of the bronze giant in Jason and the Argonauts but in a nice way. Once you have seen this statue, you won't want to see any other statue (except for the Statue of Liberty), it really is quite amazing.

11 - Statue of Unity
For almost 10 years, workers in India, have been constructing a massive statue of the country’s first deputy prime minister, freedom fighter Sardar Patel. The steel and bronze figure, named the Statue of Unity, is almost 600 feet tall, or roughly TWICE the height of the Statue of Liberty! India’s current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, said that people talk about America's Statue of Liberty. So in order to make a statement about India, that’s why they wanted to make the statue of Sardar Patel twice the size of the Statue of Liberty! The Statue of Unity was designed as a naturalistic and historically accurate representation of Patel. He was built wearing a garment that he would typically wear, in a walking stance. Because of the mounting costs for the sheer size of the statue, the committee overseeing the construction asked for public donations to finish the statue. Farmers across the country were even asked to donate any iron from old pieces of outdated farming equipment not in use! This statue is now the world’s new tallest statue, as it was just recently completed in October of 2018. Its design and construction are by the same developers who built the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. So what’s the damage on the world’s tallest statue? $460 million bucks!
10 - Spring Temple Buddha
You guys ever think wonder where the biggest Buddha statue in the world is? Welllllll think no more, because it’s the Spring Temple Buddha statue located in Lushan County, China! This huge statues took over ten years to build, from 1997 to 2008. This depiction of Buddha is 420 feet tall and it WAS the tallest statue in the world, until around earlier this year. Taking into account the pedestal that it’s put on, the monument has a total height of 682 feet. The project as a whole was estimated to cost roughly $55 million dollars, $18 million of which is for materials that’s used on the statue. It was originally estimated to consist of 1,100 pieces of copper cast, with a total weight of 1,000 tons. Beneath the statue is a Buddhist monastery, which makes sense if you really think about it! The Spring Temple Buddha derives its name from the nearby Tianrui hot spring, which has water at 140 degrees Fahrenheit and is renowned in the area for its supposed healing powers. Hmmmm might as well sell some healing crystals next to the hot bath!
9 - Guanyin of Nanshan
Who doesn’t mind another Buddhist statue? Chinese people, that’s who! The Guanyin statue in Nanshan took over 6 years to build is over 350 feet tall. It’s a portrayal of the Goddess of infinite compassion and mercy for Buddhists everywhere. This statue, located on the southern coast of China, is the tallest statue of Guanyin in the world! Guanyin had twelve wishes during her life, and one of them was to live near the South China Sea, annnnd of course, it’s a reality now. As a symbol of mercy, wisdom and harmony, Guanyin is one of the most popular and accepted Buddhist divinities for people all over the world. The statue has one body and three faces. One face looks at the Chinese mainland, one face looks at Taiwan and the third face looks at the rest of the world! This essentially means that Guanyin will bless and protect not only China but also the entire world. Maybe it’s a big reason why there was the participation of 108 monks from various Buddhist groups all over the world to bless the statue!

is located at the south of the Longshan Mountain, near Mashan, town of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, People's Republic of, China. It is one of the largest Buddha statues in China and also in the world. At more than 88 meters high, the Grand Buddha at Ling Shan is a bronze Amitabha standing Buddha outdoor, weighing over 700 tons. It was completed at the end of 1996.In 2008, a Five-signets Palace and a Brahma Palace were built south-east of the grand Buddha statue.

4) The Great Buddha Of Thailand
The Great Buddha is located in Ang Thong, province of central Thailand. The Great Buddha of Thailand is the tallest statue in the country, standing at 302 feet high and 210 feet wide. It is completely constructed out of concrete and covered in gold paint. It took 18 years to build and the temple it’s connected to is home to “Hell Park” which is a group of statues that graphically depict the hellish fate that awaits any sinners in the afterlife.

3) Ushiku daibutsu-Japan
The Kotoku-in is a Buddhist temple of the Jodo shu sect located in the city of Kamakura in Japan. The temple is famous for its great Buddhist statue (or daibutsu). a colossal outdoor representation of Amida Buddha, one of Japan’s most celebrated Buddhist figures. Cast in bronze, the Great Buddha stands at over 13 meters (40 feet) high and weighs nearly 93 tons.
The statue reportedly dates from 1252 and is generally believed to have been cast by the Buddhist monk Joko, who also collected donations to build it. Although it originally was housed in a small wooden temple, the Great Buddha now stands in the open air as the original temple was washed away in a tsunami in the 15th century.

2)Monywa Buddhas -Myanmar
Monywa Buddhas also known asLay Kyun Sakkya Monywa Buddha, is a city in central Myanmar located on the banks of the Chindwin River. Just east of the city is the Po Khaung Taung, a range of hills where you can see the Monywa Buddha– the largest reclining Buddha statue in the world. This colossal figure measures 90 meters (300 feet) in length. The head alone is 60 feet high. The Monywa Buddha was constructed in 1991 and is hollow inside, allowing visitors to walk along from the head to the feet. Inside the figure are 9,000 one-foot-high metal images of the Buddha and his disciples, depicting various representations of important events in the Buddha’s life.
Recently a gigantic standing Buddha statue was built on top of Po Kaung Hills. At 132 meter (433 feet) high it is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world.

The Spring Buddha is the world’s largest statue, The Spring Temple Buddha is a statue depicting Vairocana Buddha located in the Zhaocun township of Lushan County, Henan, China, built from 1997 to 2008 and has been listed in the Guinness World Records. Depicting the Vairocana Buddha, it stands 128 meters (420 feet) tall from the base of the lotus pedestal. This in turn stands on two structures, the “Diamond Seat” and the “Sumeru Seat” – which, if included, brings the total height to a staggering 208 meters.
The statue stands on two “seats”, each a multistory building itself. Despite its record breaking title, the Buddha remains a largely undiscovered wonder of the world hiding away in a remote part of China’s Henan province

SPRING TEMPLE BUDDHA.
The Spring Temple is a colossal statue depicting Vairocana Buddha located in the Zhaocun township of Lushan County, Henan, China, built from 1997 to 2008. It is located within the Fodushan Scenic Area , close to National Freeway no. 311. At 128 metres (420 feet), including a 25 metres (82 feet) lotus throne, it is the second-tallest statue in the world as of 2018 (after the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, India with a height of 182 metres (597 feet)). Taking into account the 25 metres (82 feet) pedestal/building atop which it is placed, the monument has a total height of 153 metres (502 feet). As of October 2008, the hill on which the statue stands is being reshaped to form two further pedestals, the upper one being 15 m tall. The total height of the monument is now said to be 208 m (682 feet). Completion date 1 September 2008, Dedicated to Gautama Buddha.

4. Emperors Yan And Huang
The faces of both Emperor Yan and Emperor Huang sit atop this mountain--or, shall we say, were carved from the mountain. The monument scends upward from the Yellow River, complete with a 180-foot or 55-meter platform that holds up the 167-foot or 51-meter busts. It took 20 years to finish making the busts, which were completed in 2007. It cost China $22.5 million to build. That seems like a steep price, but the sculptures bring in a lot of tourism, so it all sorts itself out. After all, the statues were made as a testament to China’s politics and economy.
3. Laykyun Sekkya
Here it is, the third-tallest statue in the world: Laykyun Sekkya! It is 381 feet or 116 meters tall, standing on a 44-foot or 13.5-meter throne. Construction of this enormous monument began in 1996 and was completed 12 years later in 2008. Chief Abbot Ven. Narada commissioned the project and dedicated the sculpture to Gautama Buddha. Local people donated to the temple, which is where all the funding for the project came from. If you want to see it in person, book a flight to Monywa, Myanmar and make your way to the Khatakan Taung village.

5. Emperors Yan and Huang
These big, beautiful statues are carved from the rocky face of a mountain and are found poised high above the Yellow River in Yan Huang Plaza, Zhengzhou, Henan, China. They are the tallest statues that depict a ruler or head of state, and they’re also the tallest non-Buddha statues in the world, standing at roughly 106 meters tall if you count all the way from the base of the mountain to the top of the statues. That’s a gigantic 348 feet! Construction on these impressive statues took right around fifteen years and were completed in 2007, and they depict two of China’s earliest emperors, Huang Di and Yan Di. It’s like a total Mount Rushmore, but in China, with the faces of their early emperors as our great memorial mountain shows the faces of some of our earlier, more influential Presidents. Awesome!
4. Ushiku Daibutsu
Here we are again looking at another statue of the great Buddha! He sure is popular. This one can be found in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan and it was completed in 1993. It held the title of the world’s tallest statue from the time it was completed until 2002 and stands 120 meters (390 feet) tall. At the 85 meter or 279 foot mark, there’s an observation floor that an elevator takes visitors up to. The bronze statue is made in the likeness of Amitabha Buddha and is also known as Ushiku ARCADIA, which is an acronym that stands for Amida’s Radiance and Compassion Actually Developing and Illuminating Area. It was built to represent and honor Shinran, the founder of what’s sometimes known as “True Pure Land School” of Buddhism or Jodo Shinshu. It’s one of the three tallest statues on Earth as of 2018. However, in no time, like by the end of the year, it will become good old number four!
3. Laykyun Sekkya
This giant monument is also known as the Laykyun Sekkya Buddha because you see, it depicts none other than Buddha. This thing is pretty big, as it stands at 116 meters tall, which, for Americans, means that it stretches 381 feet into the sky! It’s located in Myanmar, in the village of Khatakan Taung, near Monywa. It was completed on February 21, 2008, and took twelve years to complete as construction on the big Buddha began in 1996, and was commissioned by the Chief Abbot Ven. Narada. It’s a big old statue, but it’s not the biggest, and lucky for you, the best is yet to come!

Henan, China seems to have some of the biggest statues in the world, doesn’t it? This Buddha only took eleven years to complete, and it was built between 1997 and 2008. It stands a towering 128 meters (420 feet) tall, not including its 25 meter (82 foot) lotus throne! If you take that into account, the statue measures at a total height of 153 meters or 502 feet! These people really love them some Buddha! To make matters even, uh, taller, the hill that the statue stands on was reshaped to form two more pedestals in 2008, which made it reach 208 meters (682 feet) into the air! In the future, who knows, they could decide to somehow make it even taller! Beneath the statue sits a Buddhist monastery, and the entire project cost $55 million, $18 million of which went toward the statue itself. That’s one pricey piece of art!

Mount Jiu Hua and its Temples
Mount Jiuhua (Nine Glorious Mountains) is one of the four sacred mountains of Chinese Buddhism. It is located in Qingyang County in Anhui province and is famous for its rich landscape and ancient temples.
Many of the mountain's shrines and temples are dedicated to Ksitigarbha, who is a bodhisattva and protector of beings in hell realms according to Mahayana Buddhist tradition. Pious Buddhists often visit Anhui to climb to Greater Tiantai peak, which is regarded as Jiuhuashan's most important peak, although it is not the tallest.

12 - Mirror mirror on the wall…
We’re traveling to the top of an exceptionally high plateau in southwestern Bolivia and taking in the spectacular sight of the Salar de Uyuni also known as the Uyuni Salt flat. The is several meters thick in some areas and the air is very thin, creating around 4,000 square miles of sheer surface area. The area not only produces loads of salt but also plenty of lithium, with enormous untapped reserves lying beneath the flat surfaces. It may look like nothing can survive there, but it is home to a huge number of pink flamingo as well as around 80 other species of birdlife.

The Big Cherry and Spoon is a giant sculpture located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Designed by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje Van Bruggen, the giant sculpture is whimsical as water cascades from the cherry’s stem. In winter it’s just as pretty, with snow collecting in the giant spoon making it look like a delicious ice-cream sundae.
10 - Go big or go home…
While we’re travelling, let’s head to the largest statue in the world! At 52-feet, the Spring temple Buddha was completed in 2008 and depicts Vairocana Buddha. It’s situated in the Zhaocun township of Lushan County, Henan, China and consists of 1,100 pieces of copper and the statue cost $18 million to construct.
9 - On a grand scale…
The largest freestanding structure in the world is the New Century Global Center that has been in operation since 2013. The impressive building is 19 million square feet and took 3-years to complete. Inside are 14 IMAX theatres, a massive water park and a replica of a Mediterranean village. The water park can accommodate for 6,000 people at any given time. To put it into perspective… you could fit 300 footballs inside!
8 - Tree of life…
Sequoias are the largest trees in the world and take up the most volume. They can grow up to 275-feet tall and as much as 35-feet in diameter. The oldest one is roughly 3,500 years old. The General Sherman, the world’s largest tree, weighs 2.7 million pounds!

6 - The final blow…
The world’s largest piñata broke the Guinness Record and even required a wrecking ball to crack it open! A piñata is a Mexican tradition, which sees the birthday boy or girl and their guests hitting a papier-mâché piñata crammed with sweets until it breaks open and everyone has access to the candy. This gigantic one was 94-feet long, 24-feet wide, 60-feet high and was filled with 8,000-pounds of candy!
5 - Making Waves…
The biggest rubber duck in the world was created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. The duck was 52-feet tall and had sailed around the globe, including visiting cities like Sydney, Sao Paulo and Amsterdam. There are actually more than one of these giant ducks, but the biggest was the one we just mentioned which weighed 2,200-pounds. The last time a duck was seen was in San Diego in 2017, where it collided with a sign and ripped apart and sadly deflated.
4 - It’s play time…
It’s not the first time that beach goers have randomly bumped into a giant Lego man, and it most certainly won’t be the last. The Lego man has the name Ego Leonard written on the back and on the front, “no real than you are”. The idea was that of Dutch artist, Ego Leonard, who is rather a deep fellow according to his website and truthfully, Ego Leonard is probably not the guys real name… so everything is just a mystery!
3 - Why walk when you can skate?
It’s hard to believe that the first type of roller-skate was invented in 1760 by John Joseph Merlin as you tend to associate them with the 50’s through to the 70’s. This is the world’s largest roller-skate, and you can easily spot it at Rollerworks Family Skating Center in Bealeton. It’s been there for decades, and it’s a great place for a photo-op!

The new monument to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel stands 597 feet (182 meters) tall, overtaking the previous record holder, the 420-foot (128-meter) Spring Temple Buddha, in China’s Lushan County.

With height at 597 ft, when completed in 42 months, it will be the tallest statue in the world. The statue honors, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Iron Man of India, who was also the first deputy PM of India. It will be almost twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty and five times as tall as the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.
9. Guishan Guanyin – The Guishan Guanyin of the Thousand Hands and Eyes is the fourth-tallest statue in China, and the seventh-tallest in the world.
