Illinois State Capitol Tour in Springfield (HD)
We got a chance to tour the beautiful Illinois State Capitol building, which was constructed in 1868, in Springfield. It is a National Register of Historic Places. Across the street was a Martin Luther King statue, then at the grounds before the building itself, we saw a Abraham Lincoln and a Stephen Douglas statue. Inside the Illinois Statehouse, there was a lady statue representing the Illinois Welcoming the World message. The rotunda high ceiling was very impressive, as are the floors and stairs which are made of stone and marble.
Second and third floor had statues of former presidents highlighted by President Lincoln, plus a huge painting depicting George Rogers Clark negotiating with Native Americans at Fort Kaskaskia. There are also wall carvings depicting meetings of US personnel with native Americans in the past.
Overall this is a very impressive State Capitol Building that definitely deserves a visit. We also visited the Lincoln Home National Historic Site nearby- see our tour video of it here:

Springfield, also known as Proud History, Bright Future, is a city in Lane County, Oregon, United States. Located in the Southern Willamette Valley, it is within the Eugene-Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Separated from Eugene to the west, mainly by Interstate 5, Springfield is the second-most populous city in the metropolitan area after Eugene. Pete’s built several layouts and had to take them down, however when he moved in this house in 2002, he made sure the house would have room for his passion, the trains. This layout designed to look like the 1950’s, which includes a farm scene, a city environment, bridges, mountains, and a Paddle Boat in the water.
Every area on the layout is complete. The engines, cars, and scenery on the layout are of the highest quality, all add realism, and just a wonderful experience to view.

The US Navy is allowing a priceless collection of captured antique bronze cannons to disintegrate before their eyes at their oldest base, in Washington DC, the Washington Navy Yard. What can we do about it?
Springfield Arsenal LLC has tried for nearly a year to get something started with the Navy to at least halt the ongoing destruction of these cannons, It may be time for new approaches, such as writing our elected representatives. Ultimately of course, the cannons aren't the Navy's personal property to neglect as they see fit, they belong to the American people, and I know many of those people agree with us that such irreplacable items deserve much better care.

I've been watching the fine bronze cannons at the Washington Navy Yard deteriorate for about 30 years. This rare, fragile specimen, cast in 1686, is showing a lot of pitting, delamination, and general corrosion from the elements. I've asked the Navy if they couldn't move this one particularly fragile specimen indoors. They replied that they chose to leave all the guns outside, and have done nothing I can see to protect them in the ten months since I corresponded with them.
This made me wonder if there wasn't some law or regulation which requires government employees to at least attempt to mitigate damage to historical property when they are aware it is occurring. Does anyone know if there is such a law, regulation, or requirement on the books anywhere?

The visitor center at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site was originally built in 1966 as a part of the National Park Service's Mission 66 Program. Today, the visitor center is co-operated by the both the National Park Service and the United States Forest Service. Recent renovations to the visitor center (2015) transformed the historic building as an information center for both Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The visitor center features rotating archaeological exhibits from the national historic site and art exhibits from local native artists. The building also has a theater that shows 2 films from the National Park Service and the United States Forest Service: Oregon Experience: Fort Vancouver, and Mount St. Helens - Eruption of Life.

Eugene is a city of the Pacific Northwest located in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is located at the south end of the Willamette Valley, near the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette rivers, about 50 miles (80 km) east of the Oregon Coast.

Annual cultural events
Asian Celebration, presented by the Asian Council of Eugene and Springfield, takes place in February at the Lane County Fairgrounds.
The KLCC Microbrew Festival is held in February at the Lane County Fairgrounds. It provides participants with an introduction to a large range of microbrewery and craft beers, which play an important role in Pacific Northwest culture and the economy.
Mount Pisgah Arboretum, which resides at the base of Mount Pisgah, holds a Wildflower Festival in May and a Mushroom Festival and Plant Sale in October.
Oregon Festival of American Music, or OFAM is held annually in the early summer.
Art and the Vineyard festival, held around the Fourth of July at Alton Baker Park, is the principal fundraiser for the Maude Kerns Art Center.
