GALLE FACE GREEN, Beach and Park in Colombo, Sri Lanka ????????| Filipina-Sri Lankan Family ????????❤️????????
Galle Face Green in Sri Lanka: World Class Urban Park
Located in the heart of the business capital of of the country; Colombo, the Galle Face Green in Sri Lanka is a five hectare ocean-side urban park, which stretches for a half kilometre along the coast.
It is a magnificent place to witness a marvelous sun set over western coast of Sri lanka. The area was initially put to plan and laid out in 1859 by Governor Sir Henry George Ward, although the original Galle Face Green extended over a much larger area than is seen today.
The Galle Face Green in Sri Lanka was initially used for many recreational activities. These include activities such as horse racing and golf. It was also used as an area to play cricket, polo, football tennis and rugby.
Galle Face Green in Sri Lanka: History and the Name
The originally planned Galle face extended over a much larger area than what can be seen today. The promenade was initially laid out by the Dutch for a military purpose. They used it as a means to enable their cannons a strategic line of fire against the Portuguese. One version of how the name Galle Face is derived, is that it is from the original Dutch name for the fortifications.
After many years of planning and hard work the promenade was subsequently completed in 1859.

Colombo is the largest city and the financial and commercial capital of Sri Lanka.
Colombo remains both the commercial and financial capital of Sri Lanka even after the administrative capital has been moved to Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, a suburb east of the city.
Colombo is a huge, sprawling city, which can be visited any time of year due to its tropical climate. The heat is often excruciating, and traffic and pollution intense. These combined and without careful planning Colombo can easily become a nightmarish experience for an average traveler. To avoid this, do not carry heavy luggage, do not plan to walk any significant distances and take measures to deal with the heat and/or rain, such as bringing ice water, sunglasses, plastic slippers, sunblock, umbrella etc.

Galle Face Green, Colombo, Sri Lanka on a Sunday in early June
These are mostly the ordinary people of Colombo - the salt of the earth. The bulk of these souls work hard in low-paying jobs while a few live high on foreign contacts doing 'work' that might amount to economic sabotage. While these deals are actioned, the poor suffer. You see some of them here. The South-West Monsoon is about to start.

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA - We went on an ultimate Sri Lankan street food tour of Colombo, starting from the outskirts of the city and working our way into the market, and all the way to the Galle Face coast. Colombo is a fantastic city, vibrant, and calm and relaxing all the at the same time, and an array of delicious food.
Breakfast roti - We started in the morning for a classic Sri Lankan food breakfast, roti, stuffed with egg, chopped up and topped with curry sauce and dall. It was delicious, especially followed with ginger tea. Total price - 200 LKR ($1.12)
Milano Hotel (Restaurant) - For lunch, Ruzaina and I went to eat at one of her favorite Sri Lankan local restaurants serving a mix of rice and curry. Highly recommended. Total price - 760 LKR ($4.24)
New Paris Hotel - One of my favorite Sri Lankan foods is hoppers, and more specifically egg hoppers - a combinations of rice flour batter and coconut milk, fried in a rounded skillet and topped with an egg. Egg hoppers - 40 LKR ($0.22) each
Pettah - We continued this Sri Lankan street food tour to Pettah, a busy business district of Colombo. We met up with Abram: to do some more eating.
Fruit - 100 LKR ($0.56) - First we stopped to eat some pickled and candied fruit. I especially liked the black pepper rub on some of the fruit like the pineapple.
Bombay Sweetmeat Mart - One of the popular local Sri Lankan things to eat in Pettah is faluda and samosas. Pretty good, but I’m not huge on faluda. Total price - 320 LKR ($1.79)
Intestines and chicken necks - 390 LKR ($2.18) - Next we stopped to eat intestines and tripe, and chicken necks. All of it was pretty tasty, my kind of snack.
Brains - 660 LKR ($3.68) - Next up on this Sri Lankan street food tour, we had a huge bite of brains, all of us.
Galle Face - Finally, to end this Sri Lankan food tour, we headed to the most iconic area of Colombo - Galle Face. In the evening you’ll find food vendors setting up, selling snacks and quick meals. Isso Vadai - 200 LKR ($1.12) - are fried little fritters of shrimp and crab, and it’s something you’ve got to try. I ended with special kottu roti - 600 LKR ($3.35).
It was a great time of eating Sri Lankan food. Special thank you to Ruzaina for taking me around:

Galle Face Green, Colombo, Sri Lanka on Sunday, 8 July 2018
The slightly cooler weather of June is over and the heat has set in again. The government has not satisfied the electorate and, bar a miracle, should fall at the next general election. All that is above the heads of the people of this video who are the ordinary citizens of Colombo. Most of them lead lives of work, work and little pay or other rewards. Sundays are precious free times to enjoy the Green, now mostly Brown, and Mondays are work days under the Boss. The young study to exit the socioeconomic trap they are in but computers and robotics see to it that most of them will find little relief. There will be self-driving cars negating the need for drivers and even now robots are being created to do industrial and household work. The future is grim with only Galle Face Green (Brown) to cheer them up.

Galle Face Green, Colombo, Sri Lanka on a March Saturday afternoon
The weather is becoming unbearably hot as Sri Lanka approaches the one of the hottest months of the year - April (August is the other hottest month). The Sri Lankans themselves are flaked out and drink plenty of liquids and salty foods to compensate for the sweating caused by the harsh sun. Galle Face Green is dried up like a prune and there are huge brown patches where the grass has been trampled beyond its ability to survive. These are the ordinary people of Colombo, plus a few foreign visitors. Taken by a Samsung J7 Galaxy Prime mobile 'phone.
Galle Face Green Broadwalk, Colombo, Sri Lanka
It is late January and weather-wise the heat is on during the day. However, during the late hours of darkness after about 4.00 hrs. it seems strangely cool. Locals say it is not typical for this time of year. As you will see and hear, some people do not like being photographed. Perhaps they do not know that YouTube kindly blurs faces. The general talk is of WW3 but over here nobody has a nuclear shelter and the government does not provide. If or when radioactive winds come along there might be great suffering and a sudden drop in the population.
SRILANKA TOUR REVIEW | JAFFNA | COLOMBO | NUWERAELIYA | TRINCO | KANDY | GALLE | AIP HOLIDAYS
In Sri Lanka – a drum beats, an elephant trumpets and a mystical Buddhist chant fills the air all in one little moment. This captures the essence of a magical island nation with all its beauty as well as its complexities. Here is a land which traces its lineage back to the beginning of time and here is a country within which there is so much to discover and experience. The ruins of ancient civilizations stand testament to a great past while man-made tanks belonging to centuries long gone continue to amaze modern day scientists. The jungles are home to wild leopards and the oceans are filled with dolphins and whales. Modern fast-paced cities amidst traditional rituals and customs. Culture and technology, beliefs and development. When writing about Sri Lanka in the 14th century, Oderic, a Franciscan Monk went on to say there were many ‘miraculous things’ of which he could not write. Even in the 21st century this little island continues to amaze and hold travelers captive by the range of possibilities available is such a compact space.
Hanging like a teardrop off the southern tip of India, Sri Lanka is located in the Indian Ocean and is one of the countries that makes up the South Asian subcontinent. A tropical climate makes it warm and sunny throughout the year aside from the time of the two monsoonal periods which affect opposite sides of the island.
Come and discover the unbridled hospitality of this fascinating land with AIP.
Drive from Grandpass, Colombo to Navale, Sri Lanka
This is the last day of June, 2017. At this time of year the midwinter of the Southern Hemisphere is just past and the coldness further south is reflected in Sri Lanka by slightly less heat. The afternoon rush hour has not yet started but the crowds on the congested streets preach that a monorail system or light railway is required.

So yes there is the Ministry of Crab, The Fat Crab, and the Crab Factory and yes you will get huge crabs and super surroundings, but for me, the best place to eat crab in Colombo is at the Mayura Hotel. The crabs are way smaller but super tasty, it is not a night out type of place, it is super cheap, busy but delicious. This is my number place for great tasty crab. Head down to the Ministry of Crab for a more LUX night out and bring your wallet. A very local place.....be ready for great food and a simple place. You must try the crab, prawn, squid and fish curries - top it off with an omelet. Absolutely the best. A place to eat, and get out - can be crowded, hot and stuffy; but simply the best local food!

Galle Face Green, Colombo, Sri Lanka
This is the Green (mostly brown these days) on the first July 2018.Colombo Port City is coming along slowly and nicely with its Chinese construction. The slightly less hot weather is due to the Southern winter having slight effects here. The action of the evening will start about three hours after this video; it is about 15:00 hrs on a Sunday. I am yet to ascertain whether or not the yellow sun of years ago has really turned white. Really?
