Bruges Travelogue
ROBANCA TRAVELOGUES: Bruges - A Historical Gem. A three day break in the city of Bruges, Belgium, in May-June 2014, walking and cycling, visiting Kruispoort, Sint-Janishuismolen and Nieuve Papegaai windmills, and Dampoort. In the city centre, we walk many of the canals, and visit Markt and Burg Squares, seeing the Belfry of Bruges and the city hall. On the outskirts we cycle to Ezelpoort, Smedenpoort and Minnewater with the Begijnhof convent. We finish by walkling through the Brangwyn Museum grounds to reach the Bonifacius Bridge. We spend our last evening at the Rozenhoedkaai. On our way home, we stop briefly at Damme.

Bruges Minnewater Park
For most visitors the Minnewater and its lovely park are the entrance to the beautiful city of Bruges. The Minnewater is a canalized lake. From the bridge (1740) one can already enjoy a nice panoramic view over the town. Because of the idyllic surroundings it is mostly referred to as 'the lake of Love', the Dutch word 'Minne' meaning 'love'.
Actually, the origins of the lake are less romantic. It was here that the coastal river 'Reie' entered the city. The river was later canalized and made to continue until the center of town. It is not sure where the name 'Minnewater' comes from. An explanation could be 'water van het gemeen', which could be translated as the 'common water'. The lake was used as a water reservoir, to keep the water of the canals at a constant level. Next to the lake is the Minnewater park, where sometimes in the summertime (rock) concerts are organized.

Begijnenhuisje Brugge/Bruges Beguinale house
A day in Bruges, a fairy tale destination
#bruges #europetravel #chocolate
What a good kick-off start of this Europe journey!
Bruges was on my list as it is so close to my home town, so why not!
So we spend a day in this iconic, instagrammable place, stuffing our mouths with delicious food and of course... chocolate waffles!
The city was so packed, which is normal between Christmas and New Year so if you hate the crowd, avoid this time of the year!
Visit the Beffry, do a canal tour, and cross the beautiful Bonifacius bridge. Your camera will love it!
The day after I took a bus to my next destination so stay tuned!
It will be a bit of a delay, as editing takes so much of my time, I'm busy everyday, and I need to enjoy my holiday right?

Marvelous Church in Bruge
This is a video I took during my visit to Bruge in Nov. 2007.
Sint-Walburgakerk Church.
Here, I met a priest who asked me the difference of Kirei and Subarashi in Japanese.
Kirei: Beautiful
Subarashii: Wonderful, Splendid, marvelous
He looked happy after I answered above and said to me I will never forget you.
I will also never forget you.
It was such a marvelous day.
God bless you.
