St Bride's church off Fleet Street was built in 1672 by Sr Christopher Wren and is the tallest of his churches excluding St Paul's. It was actually the inspiration for a pastry chef called William Rich, who had his bakery on Ludgate Hill, to design the first tiered wedding cake.
The Old Bell Pub was built especially for those workmen building the church and appears in a famous almanac of the day called Epicure's Almanac, a bit like a restaurant guide.
Just around the corner is Salisbury Square where Frederick Duke of York, second son of King George lll burned 10 000 copies of his ex-lover's memoirs. Mary Anne Clark was upset that she was unceremoniously dumped without so much as a town house to show for it, so she disclosed all the steamy tales of passion between them.
The Duke was horrified and bought all 10 000 copies and burned them…and Mary Anne Clark got her pension!

St Bride's: An Introduction
St Bride's Church is a magical space in which the beauty of its architecture, the power of the liturgy and the weight of history all meet and enrich each other. Designed by Wren and completed in 1703, its 226 foot, wedding cake spire dominates the surrounding area. When sunlight shines in through the large windows the interior gains a special luminous quality as an oasis of peace and prayer amidst the busy City.

We shot this film for a couple in June 2009. We were not allowed to film the service at St. Brides as the choir demanded an extra £2000 from the couple if they were to be recorded on video camera. This has been a problem for us on several occasions and its an attempt by either the church or the choir to make a bit of extra money from the wedding. The couple are normally told about this extra fee a few weeks before the actual wedding so they are unable to back out. Instead they have to either cancel the wedding video they have booked and lose their deposit or continue with the booking and have the film made, albeit without the wedding ceremony recorded. Our advice to anyone who wants both a choir at the church and a wedidng video is that when booking a choir ask if they intend to charge an extra fee if there will be videographers present.
