A walk around Bonchurch
Bonchurch is a small village to the east of Ventnor, now largely connected to the latter by suburban development, on the southern part of the Isle of Wight, England. One of the oldest settlements on the Isle of Wight, it is situated on The Undercliff adjacent to the Bonchurch Landslips Site of Special Scientific Interest.

This is footage of the Old St. Boniface Church in Bonchurch on the Isle of Wight, filmed on 24th August 2013. This beautiful little church is still used and dates from the 11th century. In this video I walk through the church and towards the end of the video is footage of me ringing the bell as I thought I'd give it a go with there being no-one around. I visited this church alone having walked to it from where I was staying in Ventnor with my family for a week. It was worth the walk!

Highlights along the way include Alum Bay with its multi-coloured cliffs, the Isle of Wight’s iconic landmark, the Needles, the 33 metre high Needles Lighthouse and the panoramic views from West High and Tennyson Down. The section around Alum Bay and The Needles is full of such things, but the walk from the Needles towards Brook and Brighstone is gorgeous with really nice high cliffs looking down on sandy beaches. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty overlooking The Needles Rocks and Lighthouse, there's breathtaking scenery and a spectacular chairlift past amazing coloured sand cliffs. Alum Bay beach is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque beaches on the Isle of Wight.

St. Catherine's 14th century Lighthouse is a lighthouse located at St Catherine's Point at the southern tip of the Isle of Wight. It is is one of the oldest lighthouse locations in Great Britain walk around St Catherine's Point and St Catherine's Down. It's a particularly lovely part of the island with steep cliffs, attractive woodland, grassland with wildflowers and stunning coastal views.

A BRIEF HISTORY. the germans landed here albeit breifly it is now transpiering. Because of the vulnerability of the Chain Home radar site at Ventnor, a site at St. Lawrence was chosen for a mobile reserve station that could be brought into use should Ventnor be rendered unusable following an air attack. There was already a buried reserve at Ventnor but as this was located on the technical site, it too could have been damaged in an attack. The station was manned by personnel from RAF Ventnor with domestic accommodation provided at the Ventnor camp and at two hotels in St. Lawrence that were requisitioned. By 1942, St. Lawrence had become a radar station in its own right operating 24 hours a day rather than acting as a reserve site for Ventnor and Southbourne. This is also the site that was supposed to have been the only 'invasion' the Nazis did in World War Two on UK soil apart from the channel islands. Recent now released previously top secret reports say that a 'German commando unit was landed from a fast gunboat at St. Lawrence and, having scaled the cliff, were involved in a short fire fight with guards at the Radar station. It seems that a few British were killed in the fight. The German unit returned to a waiting U-boat, before crossing back across the Channel' . NOW WHATS LEFT IS A SANCTUARY FOR A VERY RARE SPECIES OF BAT . ENTRY IS VERY MUCH OFF LIMITS , SO DON`T BOTHER UNLESS YOU LIKE PAYING LARGE FINES.IT`S ALL VERY MUCH IN TOUCHING DISTANCE FROM THE PERIMETER FENCES ANYHOW.

A Coastal Walk From St Lawrence To St Catherine's Lighthouse
This video details a long coastal walk from on the Isle of Wight, starting at St Lawrence and initially attempting to follow the old coastal path to St Catherine's Lighthouse - however, about halfway along, the old coastal path is broken by landslides and coastal erosion.
We tried to cut inland, but accidentally ended up back where we started - so we set out along the newer coastal path, which runs along the cliffs above St Lawrence.
We walked further than we really intended, so this was an exhausting trip, but we saw some interesting things along the way,

Ventnor is a seaside resort and civil parish established in the Victorian era on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, England. Ventnor is situated south of St Boniface Down, and Ventnor is built on steep slopes leading down to the sea.
The higher part is referred to as Upper Ventnor (officially Lowtherville); the lower part, where most amenities are located, is known as Ventnor. Ventnor is sometimes taken to include the neighbouring settlements of St. Lawrence and Bonchurch .
Ventnor relatively sheltered location beneath the downs produces a microclimate with more sunny days and fewer frosts than the rest of the island. This allows many species of subtropical plant to flourish; Ventnor Botanic Garden is particularly notable.
Ventnor railway station was the terminus of the Isle of Wight Railway (later the Island Line), and it brought many visitors to the town. Ventnor West railway station was the terminus of the Isle of Wight Central Railway from Cowes through Newport. Between 2004 and 2010 a 'rail link' bus by Wightbus ran from St Lawrence and Ventnor to Shanklin, facilitating the journey to and from Ventnor.
Ventnor Botanic Garden occupies the site of the former Royal National Hospital for Chest Diseases, and has a variety of tropical plants. Annual rainfall of 31 inches (790 mm) and a particularly warm and sunny microclimate allows a variety of plants normally too tender for mainland Britain to grow. The garden includes plants from across the world, particularly Australia and New Zealand, but also from Japan and the Mediterranean. There is a temperate house, and a visitor centre renovated in 2001.
Ventnor Park is on the western side of town and has a bandstand, aviary and stream, a putting green open seasonally, and live music on Sunday afternoons during the summer. The Cascade Gardens This garden with a waterfall, known as the cascade, was laid out in 1903. Below is a paddling-pool on the esplanade with a model of the Isle of Wight that children can play on.
VENTNOR Sign: This is on the cliffs at La Falaise, west of the beach, with the town's name in 4 metres (13 ft) tall white concrete blocks. It was intended to provide a landmark visible from the sea, and replaced the chalk letters damaged in 1992. Ventnor Exchange is an arts centre that opened in 2014 in the old Post Office building on Church Street. Ventnor is on the Isle of Wight Coastal Path.
