Port Louis is the capital city of Mauritius. We spent a day exploring the city, including St Louis Cathedral, Jummah Masjid Mosque, Kannanur Mariamman Kovil Hindu Temple, China Town, Mercado Central (the large downtown market), the beautiful waterfront and the Citadel.

Present The market of Port Louis, is one of the most ancient spots of the island. Older than 200years, it was located near the St Louis Cathedral up to 1773. The following year, it has been moved near the Theatre before moving to the Jardin de la Compagnie in 1816, where it is also known as the marché de la fortune.

La messe solennelle à l’occasion de la fête de la Saint-Louis sera célébrée le jeudi 25 août 2016 à 10hr à la cathédrale Saint-Louis. La célébration se distingue cette année par quelques faits marquants dont une forte présence des évêques de l’océan indien et la participation des délégations agaléenne, chagossienne et rodriguaise. A noter que année marque le 50e anniversaire de l’élévation de Port-Louis au rang de cité.
La messe sera relayée en direct sur Radio Maurice et la MBC TV. La tradition de fêter Saint-Louis, patron du diocèse et de la cité de Port-Louis, par une messe solennelle s’est installée en 1768. Père Jean-Maurice Labour, vicaire général nous en parle.
