St. Paul's Chapel, nicknamed The Little Chapel That Stood, is an Episcopal chapel located at 209 Broadway, between Fulton Street and Vesey Street, in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Built in 1766, it is the oldest surviving church building in Manhattan, and one of the nation's finest examples of Late Georgian church architecture. It is a New York City Landmark and a National Historic Landmark.
A chapel of the Parish of Trinity Church, St. Paul's was built on land granted by Anne, Queen of Great Britain, designed by architect Thomas McBean and built by master craftsman Andrew Gautier. Upon completion in 1766, it was the tallest building in New York City. It stood in a field some distance from the growing port city to the south and was built as a chapel-of-ease for parishioners who thought the mother church inconvenient to access.
Built of Manhattan mica-schist with brownstone quoins, St. Paul's has the classical portico, boxy proportions and domestic details that are characteristic of Georgian churches such as James Gibbs' London church of St Martin-in-the-Fields, after which it was modelled. Its octagonal tower rises from a square base and is topped by a replica of the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates (c. 335 BC).
St. Paul's Chapel is a very active part of the Parish of Trinity Church, holding services, weekday concerts, occasional lectures, and providing a shelter for the homeless. The chapel has hosted many famous worshippers. George Washington worshiped here on his Inauguration Day, April 30, 1789. During the two years New York City was the country's capital, Washington attended services at St. Paul's while Trinity Church was being rebuilt. Hanging above Washington's pew is a painting of the Great Seal of the United States (adopted in 1782), which was commissioned by the Vestry in 1785. The artist of the painting is unknown.
Directly across the chapel from Washington's pew is the Governor's pew, which Governor George Clinton, the first Governor of the State of New York, used when he visited St. Paul's, is marked by The Arms of the State of New York to commemorate his service. Other historical worshipers have included Prince William, later William IV of the United Kingdom, Lord Cornwallis, Sir William Howe, Commander-in-Chief of British forces in America and several U.S. Presidents: Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison, and George H. W. Bush.

Homelessness in the United States of America is an area of concern for social service providers, government officials, policy professionals, and society at large. Although the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in January 2012 annual point-in-time count found that 633,782 people across the United States were homeless, other counts vary widely. In a recent approximation, an estimated 1.6 million unduplicated persons used transitional housing or emergency shelters. Of these people, approximately 1/3 are members of households with children, a nine percent increase since 2007. Another approximation is from a study done by the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, which states that approximately 3.5 million people, 1.35 million of them children, are likely to experience homelessness in a given year (National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, 2007). With 2007 as a benchmark, the data from the report showed a 6.8 percent decline in homelessness among individuals, a 3.7 percent decline of homeless families, a 13.1 percent decline of the unsheltered homeless population, and a 19.3 percent decline in persons experiencing chronic homelessness. Determining even an approximate count of homeless people is quite difficult, even more so when it comes to those that are under the age of 21. Adolescents, teens, and runaways seem to fall through the crack; so many go unaccounted for. Many of the youth living on the streets do not want to be counted for various reasons. Therefore, agencies that do count, use different methods and techniques that make an accurate count that much more difficult.
One out of 50 children or 1.5 million children in America will be homeless each year. In 2013 that number jumped to one out of 30 children, or 2.5 million. There were an estimated 57,849 homeless veterans estimated in the United States during January 2013; or 12 percent of all homeless adults. Just under 8 percent of homeless U.S. veterans are female. Texas, California and Florida have the highest numbers of unaccompanied homeless youth under the age of 18; comprising 58% of the total homeless under 18 youth population.
Because of turnover in the homeless population, the total number of people who experience homelessness for at least a few nights during the course of a year is thought to be considerably higher than point-in-time counts. A 2000 study estimated the number of such people to be between 2.3 million and 3.5 million. According to Amnesty International USA, vacant houses outnumber homeless people by five times.

This walking tour takes you around one of the world’s most vibrant and interesting cities. The City of New York is like a theme park with the theme being; the Big City. The tour will then see us look at how the history is so poignant in the tour with a visit to the Brooklyn Historical Society so you can see where some of the documents are held pertaining to Brooklyn’s rich architecture and glory.
Your next stop is the Church of the Savior on Pierrepont Street before you will be present to one of the most romantic spots in New York City that will take your breath away. One-third of a mile long, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade offers a vista of the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan skyline and the majestic Brooklyn Bridge.
Here we will witness the St. George Hotel and the Leverich Towers. A tall 18-storey hotel built during the time of the Great Depression and still standing tall in many more ways today. Next stop is more historical architecture in Plymouth Church where the walk encounters the old Margaret Apartments, a 12-storey high building on Columbia Heights. Here, Jehovah Witnesses were lovingly restoring these apartments when they were tragically burned down in 1980.

The Civic Center is the area of lower Manhattan, New York City, that encompasses New York City Hall, One Police Plaza, the courthouses in Foley Square, and the surrounding area. The district is bound on the west by Tribeca at Broadway, on the north by Chinatown at Worth Street or Bayard Street, on the east by the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge at South Street, and on the south by the Financial District at Ann Street.
Although government-related activities are predominant, other pursuits also occur within the district, including entertainment, industrial activity, residential dwellings, and warehousing. For example, there are Chinese restaurants near Civic Center's border with Chinatown, in addition to some museums and some residential buildings in the Civic Center area. The area is roughly 10 blocks long and 5 blocks wide, but is far less dense than most of Manhattan, where the average number of residents for an area that size is 35,000; the Civic Center has approximately 20,000 residents.
The Jacob K. Javits Federal Building is located in the area. It includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation New York field office.
Non-government buildings include the 387 feet (118 m) 15 Park Row, an office and residential building which was the city's highest from 1899 to 1908. 150 Nassau Street, a 21-story granite building, was once a publisher's building, as were many in the area, but is now a residential building, as is 38 Park Row. The 76-story 8 Spruce Street is among the world's tallest residential buildings. Southbridge Towers, once Mitchell-Lama affordable housing, is now market-rate housing.

While walking with James to Best Buy on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, my heart broke seeing Leeza sitting on the sidewalk flying a sign. Leeza is 22 years-old and has been homeless in New York City for two months.
Leeza panhandles to survive. She is trying to save up her money to get back to the West Coast.

Pope John Paul the Second is continuing to express concern over the state of Catholicism in the U-S.
His latest mass at New York's Aqueduct Raceway stressed the importance of family values.
While some American Catholics see John Paul the Second's message as too conservative, this crowd of over 75-thousand had nothing but good feelings about the Pontiff. Continuing what he calls a tour of goodwill, Pope John Paul the Second was welcomed at New York's Aqueduct Raceway for the second open-air mass in the U-S.

A crowd of over 75-thousand crammed the venue, which usually serves as a horse racing track.
For these people, the chance to glimpse the Pontiff is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

But the Pope has stressed his conservative and to some American Catholics controversial views on the state of the church in the U-S.
The Pope has expressed concern that America's losing its moral direction a direction he says must include strong, traditional, two-parent families.

Hoboken is a city in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population was 50,005, having grown by 11,428 (+29.6%) from 38,577 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 5,180 (+15.5%) from the 33,397 in the 1990 Census. Hoboken is part of the New York metropolitan area and is the site of Hoboken Terminal, a major transportation hub for the tri-state region.
Hoboken was first settled as part of the Pavonia, New Netherland colony in the 17th century. During the early 19th century the city was developed by Colonel John Stevens, first as a resort and later as a residential neighborhood. Originally part of Bergen Township and later North Bergen Township, it became a separate township in 1849 and was incorporated as a city in 1855. Hoboken is the location of the first recorded game of baseball and of the Stevens Institute of Technology, one of the oldest technological universities in the United States. It is also well known for being the birthplace and hometown of American singer Frank Sinatra, and there are parks and streets located in the city that are named for him.
Located on the Hudson Waterfront, the city was an integral part of the Port of New York and New Jersey and home to major industries for most of the 20th century. The character of the city has changed from a blue collar town to one of upscale shops and condominiums. It has been ranked 2nd in Niche's 2019 Best Places to Live in Hudson County list.

06 17 2019 Annual Grace Church Music Ministry Concert with Dominic Fiacco
Monday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m. our music ministry presented its annual Monday Night Concert. This year's program included a wide variety of music: Tina Toglia, pianist; the Karen Singers; the Youth Handbells and the Adult Handbells; and the choir with 14-year-old organist, Dominic Fiacco.
About the Guest Organist
Dominic Fiacco, 14 year old son of William and Pamela Fiacco of Poland, New York, began studying music at the of 4. His curiosity about the organ began after attending an organ recital at age 8 at the First Presbyterian Church in Utica, immediately after which he was invited to try the organ. He then began lessons the fall.
Although he could not at the time reach the pedals, his inherent musical sensitivity and remarkable determination resulted in rarely seen progress. During the following years of lessons with First Church organist, Stephen Best, Dominic progressed to the point where he is eagerly seeking the most difficult challenges, musically.
Dominic has a special love of French romantic music, but his broadly-based interests have recently led him to an interest in the music of Bach as well as German romantic composers. He has performed on organs as diverse as the Aeolian-Skinner at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City and the Frobenius at Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church. Additionally this spring, he presented recitals at the West Point United States Military Academy and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse.
He is one of four students chosen to participate in this summer’s organ camp at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he will study with Alan Morrison and Peter Richard Conte.
Dominic serves as the assistant organist at St. joseph and St. Patrick Church in Utica and at the Parish Community of St. Leo and St. Ann in Holland Patent. He and his six younger siblings are home-schooled.

The Park Avenue Armory is located at 643 Park Avenue and 66th Street in Manhattan. Watch our video to learn more about this historic building and then plan a visit.
The prominent landmark was built from 1877 to 1881 for the Seventh National Guard Regiment. The medieval-inspired building became a prototype for later armories in New York and throughout the country. The design came from Charles W. Clinton, a Seventh Regiment veteran. He included a large drill shed measuring 200 by 300 feet and 80 feet high. It is one of the largest unobstructed spaces in New York and the oldest balloon shed in the United States.
The Armory is now a venue for cultural events and educational programming run by the Thompson Arts Center who offer regular public tours of the building. Designated a City Landmark in 1967 with interior spaces added in 1994, the Park Avenue Armory has been hailed as containing the single most important collection of 19th-century interiors to survive intact in one building. See the magnificent rooms designed by leaders of the Aesthetic Movement, among them Louis Comfort Tiffany, Stanford White, Candace Wheeler, and the Herter Brothers.

St. Francis College Winter Commencement 2018
When Kejsi Shkreta '18 first came to New York from Albania, she left behind a country that was enjoying a new openness to the world and its first taste of democracy. Her parents worked hard to give her the opportunity to attend college in the United States and she took full advantage.
I wanted to be near those skyscrapers, to be immersed in a cultural melting pot, but to also be part of something that respected tradition and carried an air of respect.
Her high grades and motivation earned her the Gene '79 and Ginna Donnelly Scholarship, allowing her to attend St. Francis College. She thrived; earning a perfect 4.0 GPA and interning at Bank of America and for the New York City Department of Education.
Now as Valedictorian for the Class of 2018 Winter Commencement, Kejsi (pronounced Kay'-cee) shared her story and words of encouragement with her fellow graduates on Tuesday at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Try to not forget, we are the sum of all our experiences. Everything we do and choose not to do leads to what we will be tomorrow.
The Commencement Ceremony began with a Baccalaureate Mass celebrated by Fr. Brian Jordan OFM, Director of the St. Francis College Campus Ministry.
Presiding over his first commencement since beginning at St. Francis College last September, President Miguel Martinez-Saenz welcomed the students and asked them to reflect on their place in society. He introduced a parable shared by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. where priests and a Samaritan encounter a poor man on the side of the road. The priests ask, 'If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?' while the Samaritan asks 'If I do not stop and help this man, what will happen to him?'
In his Commencement Address Professor Geoffrey Horlick, Director of the MS in Accounting Program urged all graduates to stay informed and to vote. Change is often slow, but each generation moves it forward, he said, referring to the waves of civil rights movements he's experienced since coming to St. Francis College 38 years ago. He commented that when he started teaching his classes were made up of almost all men and very few minorities, far different from the amazing diversity he now sees in every class.
Under Dr. Horlicks's leadership, the College began a five-year combined Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program in
Accounting as well as a two year Master's Degree Program. As Chair of the Department of Accounting & Business Law and later as Program Director of the MS Program in Accounting, his rigorous standards and mentorship have instilled a high level of skill and proficiency that puts St. Francis College accountants on par with those from the best schools in the country.
Outside of the classroom, Dr. Horlick is a member of the American Accounting Association, American Institute of CPAs and New York State Society of CPAs. He has published in Business Horizons and The Federal Accountant and served as Author and Editor of the Kaplan CPA Review Course for ten years. In addition he has consulted for Citicorp, Coopers & Lybrand, Theatre Now, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Hughes/Moss Casting, and Sherwood Ltd. Dr. Horlick currently serves as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Adoptive Parents' Committee and has participated as a panelist at the organization's annual conference.
As valedictorian, Kejsi's credentials are numerous. She is a member of the Duns Scotus Honor Society, Sigma Beta Delta (International Honors Society for Business, Management and Administration), Alpha Lambda Delta (Freshman Honor Society), and the National Honor Society. A Management major with a minor in Marketing and concentration in Finance, she was President of the Information Technology Club, Treasurer of the Entrepreneur Club and a member of the Investment Club, International Students Committee, and the Troupers. She was also honored by her fellow students with the John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Award and the Emerging Student Leader Award.
Serving as a Resident Advisor in the College's dorm helped her a great deal financially, and she supplemented that working as a Math Tutor in the Academic Enhancement Center, and as student worker in multiple departments.
In addition to her internships at Bank of America and the DOE, Kejsi also interned at Morningside Evaluations and volunteered for Wise & Co where she worked backstage at fashion shows and red carpet events, putting her elbow to elbow with several celebrities, including those she first watched as a little girl in Albania.
After all the graduates received their diplomas, Patrick Dugan '01, President of the Alumni Board of Trustees and son of recently deceased former president, Brendan J. Dugan '68 welcomed the newest alumni and encouraged them to keep St. Francis close.
