On Saturday, December 25, His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, vicar bishop of the Eastern American Diocese, visited St. John the Baptist Cathedral in the American capital, accompanying the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God.

STORYLINE:
Religious faith was sorely tested across Russia on Saturday when tens of thousands of Orthodox Christians braved wintry conditions to take a dip in frigid outdoor waters as part of an annual celebration known as Theophany, also known as the Epiphany in Western countries.
The holiday commemorates Jesus Christ's baptism in the river Jordan by the last prophet of the Old Testament, Joan the Precursor or John the Baptist.
Orthodox legend holds that all natural watercourses on this day take on curative powers -- a panacea that lures devotees into ice-covered holy rivers and lakes across the country.
In keeping with tradition Orthodox services began on Friday night, lead by the church's Russian patriarch, Alexi II, who delivered a service in Moscow's Yelokhovsky Cathedral.
On Saturday morning most of Moscow's 300 Orthodox churches were crammed to overflowing with the believers who were less adventurous and content to be doused with holy water rather than risk a head-to-toe plunge in freezing water.
Theophany is sometimes called Twelfth Night.
In Hispanic and Latin culture it is known as Three Kings Day (el Dia de los Tres Reyes, la Fiesta de Reyes, or el Dia de los Reyes Magos).

The Miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Cicero - Ikona Presvete Bogorodice iz Cicera
On April 22nd of 1994, the parishioners of St. George witnessed God’s glory.
The Icon of the Theotokos on the church’s iconostasis began to shed tears. His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP formally declared the weeping icon a miracle and named it “The Miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Cicero.”
Since then, lot of miracles happen in front of this icon. This is the story about them.
