ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH
THIS IS JUST A FRACTION OF THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY HERE IN IRELAND
We gather her to celebrate life, family, friends, music, good food, and camaraderie. Distance from Ireland to Philippines is 11,269 km. We are not related, but we are one big family here. Kids are dancing, adults enjoy the company, teens feel the good vibes. To my family watching back home, DON’T WORRY, I am doing just fine here.

St Joseph's catholic church-Highgate
St.Joseph’s was established in 1858, at a time when the relaxation of legal control over Catholicism was taking place. The Catholic community was expanding because of the railroads, but there was still considerable suspicion, resentment and open prejudice from the largely Protestant population of London, and indeed Highgate.
When Father Ignatius Spencer was seeking a home for the Passionists in London, the Old Black Dog Inn at Highgate seemed suitable, but could only be inspected by subterfuge. The Priests visited the property in disguise so they would be unrecognised – less than 10 years previously the owner had refused to sell the property as he dreamed that it would be bought by Papists, and at this time there had been an anti-Catholic riot in Highgate High Street.
Buying the property at auction was only the first of the problems to be overcome, as the acquisition and construction needed to be funded, and at that time the funds did not exist!
Father Ignatius approached his nephew, the fifth Earl Spencer (the great, great uncle of Diana, Princess of Wales), to seek funds. The fifth Earl recommenced an annuity of £300 pa, which had been withheld by the family when the Honourable and Reverend George Spencer now known as Fr Ignatius had converted to Catholicism.
Although Father Ignatius died in 1864 and did not see his work come to fruition, the local Catholic community grew rapidly, and a chapel attached to the old pub was replaced by a purpose built church in 1861, but even this became too small and so the work of building the current St. Joseph’s commenced on 24th May 1888. The construction was overseen by the enthusiastic Brother Alphonsus Zeegers, working in habit and stonemason’s apron.
On the evening of 21st November 1889 the new church building was blessed by the Bishop of Liverpool, but this triumph for the community was matched by a burden of debt that would not be repaid for a further 43 years. On 28th April 1932, the debt having been finally cleared by the efforts of the community the church was finally consecrated.

Service of Mass from St. Josephs Redemptorist Church, Dundalk, County Louth, Eire
Our Mass comes from St. Joseph's Redemptorist Church, Dundalk, County Louth.
With music from St Joseph's Redemptorist Senior Choir. In the pulpit, Father Michael Cusack.
RTE Sunday 28th October 2018
We are a religious community of brothers and priests, living in St Joseph’s Monastery. This mission house of St Joseph’s was established on 8th September 1876.
Redemptorists are passionate about the Gospel and equally passionate about sharing the Gospel message of God’s love for all people with all sectors of society, but especially with those who live on the edges of church and society. There is a special place in our hearts for those who feel abandoned and who have difficulty in finding their way in life.
Living in community is very important for Redemptorists. We are committed to living together as brothers – praying together, working together and supporting each other. We have chosen, as our Constitutions express it, to put the person of Christ at the centre of our community life and we strive day by day to enter ever more intimately into personal union with him.
Preaching continues to be an important ministry for Redemptorists and some members of the community travel from place to place preaching and conducting retreats. The national Redemptorist preaching and mission team today is made up of Redemptorists and lay co-workers who share our charism. Redemptorists are increasingly committed to working in partnership with lay people as this best reflects the Church as the People of God, and it honours the gifts given to each of us by the Holy Spirit to further the Mission of God.

Perhaps more than ever before, there is a need for people who can proclaim courageously the Good News of hope, love and reconciliation in a world where there is so much greed, violence, hopelessness and selfishness. The Redemptorists make a very significant contribution in this area. We would love to hear from you.

Our reporters returned to Ireland, where the remains of 800 children who died at the Tuam Mother and Baby home in County Galway were found in a mass grave. Our team met with survivors of the home, who told them of their pain and of rebuilding their stolen childhoods.
Imagine a world where you were separated by force from your mother, simply because you were born out of wedlock. A world where you were called a bastard and she a whore. A world where you were thrown into a facility run by nuns, where food was scarce and where you didn't know what Christmas was. A world where home was synonymous with hell.
In the town of Tuam, Western Ireland, that world was a reality for tens of thousands of mothers and their babies, born between the 1920s and the 1960s.
In 2014, Catherine Corless, an amateur historian, revealed the result of her research: nearly 800 babies were denied proper burials and their bodies were located in the chambers of a sewage system, on the property of the former Mother and Baby home.
The investigation is still under way and its findings are due to be revealed in 2019. But many in Tuam blame the state and the Bon Secours Sisters, who ran the home at the time.
FRANCE 24's Aurore Cloe Dupuis and Julie Dungelhoeff met with survivors of the home, who demand justice for those whom they call the forgotten Angels of Tuam.

The Hidden Children of the Catholic Church | Foreign Correspondent
It’s been an open secret for years. Catholic priests fathering children in breach of their vows. After suffering in silence and shame for years, those children are speaking out, demanding answers and recognition from Rome.
Like other scandals it has faced, the Church has swept the issue of children of priests under the carpet.
“The church operates on a system where if it can ignore you and hope you go away, then it will do that”, says one former advisor to the church.
The children of priests have long suffered in silence and shame, their mothers pressured to keep quiet and keep the secret.
We follow the story of one Australian woman who discovered in middle age who her father was, and who’s determined to find out more.
“I remember thinking I can’t tell anybody. I now have to carry a secret”, she says. “Over a period of time, I realised…I can’t keep the secret and I need to step forward
Reporter Lisa Millar heads to Ireland to speak to the man who’s bringing this issue out from the shadows into the light.
From a village south of Dublin, Vincent Doyle, whose father was a priest, is bringing these children together for the first time, helping them find a voice and a pathway to answers.
When Vincent Doyle launched a website for the children of priests, the response revealed the global nature of the problem. His website got hits from 175 countries and he estimates there are ‘ten thousand children of priests, that’s conservative’.
A woman who is researching the experiences of children of priests found startling similarities between their problems and the problems suffered by victims of clerical abuse.
While the Irish clergy have responded to pressure and come up with a plan to deal with it, Rome has been slower to react.
“It’s evidence priests are not doing what they’re supposed to be doing”, says one long-time Vatican watcher. “… any time the Church leadership is confronted with that, the knee jerk reaction is to recoil and not be fully transparent.”
In Rome, Lisa Millar goes to the centre of Catholic power to find answers. They now acknowledge the problem, but secrecy rules.
“I want the Pope to say the words ‘children of priests'. That’s what I want and that will just be the beginning”, says Vincent Doyle.
“I think it will be the next big story that is going to shake, and quite rightly shake, the church”, says the former advisor.
