St. Martin was born in Lima, Peru, in 1579, the son of a Spanish nobleman and a black Panamanian woman. Abandoned by their father at a young age, Martin lived with his mother and sister in poverty.
As a youth, Martin was apprenticed to a barber where he learned the healing arts. As a young man, Martin asked to join the Dominicans in Lima. For several years he served as a lay helper, doing such menial tasks as sweeping floors, cleaning the refectory and toilets. Martin also used his healing skills to care for the sick. Finally, Martin was persuaded to receive the habit as a brother.
Martin became widely known for his depth of spirituality, humble service, healing powers, and love of all God's creatures. Martin was reported to have the gift of bilocation. This means he could be in more than one place at a time. As Martin's fame spread, people came from far and near to ask for his prayers, healing, and spiritual counsel. He treated every person with dignity and respect, regardless of their state in life.
Martin died in 1639 at the age of 60. He was canonized in 1962 by Pope John XXIII, and has been declared the patron saint of social justice. Today, St. Martin is loved by people of many different races and ethnic groups. Every year the Church holds a special celebration for the Feast of St. Martin on November 3rd.

Expressions of Faith: Mass with the children of St. Michael School
St. Michael Catholic School, on Summer near Graham, was in danger of closing several years ago. But as the neighborhood's Hispanic population has grown, so has the school and parish. St. Michael has become a melting pot of Memphis -- as reflected in the faces and voices of students who celebrate daily mass.

Pastor Crea Addresses Catholic Abuse & Being Violated Sexually
NEW York, 2002. Pastor Crea Addresses Abuse of Authority & Being Violated Sexually Under Catholic Auspices - Gilchrist Experience Interview on MNN [For updates, more accounts and press releases for additional details: Contact Pastor Crea 212-360-7458 NB PLZ ONLY Identified/VERIFIED Calls/Texts.]
As Boston broke the scandal of sexual assaults under Catholic auspices in 2002, on the 37th Day of fasting for Justice, Pastor Michael-Vincent Crea addressed the abuse of Catholic authorities in their damage control of the sexual violations. Graduating Cornell in 1977 [Deg. Jan 78], and earning on his own his professional pastoral Master of Divinity at The Catholic University of America [May 1987], Pastor Crea poignantly, personally and prophetically calls for Justice, complete disclosure and inclusion of all persons and ages, subjected to sexual violations in the Catholic houses of God.
His own being raped at the New York Archdiocesan St. Joseph Seminary in 1979; accosted at the Paulist College of St. Paul in Washington, DC, in 1980; speaking up against a priest having sex with a teen in a DC rectory, fired for doing so and then, ignored by the Washington staff of the Cardinal James Hickey in 1988, one of whom, then Monsignor William Lori, went on to become the spokesperson for the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops [USCCB] Ad Hoc Committee on Abuse; then Bishop of Bridgeport, CT; and now, is Archbishop Lori of Baltimore, MD.
