St. Peter and St. Paul's church sermon, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, UK
The Parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul's
Mansfield's oldest centre of community, dating from 1113 and built on the site of a Saxon Church
stpeters-mansfield.org.uk
Christian worship has taken place on this town centre site since at least the time of the Norman Conquest.
The Choir
There has been a choir at St Peter's since 1736, when a singers' gallery was erected at the West End of the church.
The Organ
Re-consecrated at the end of 2000, the magnificent 3-manual organ is one of the finest in the Southwell and Nottingham Diocese. The foundation of this instrument was the organ of Clare College, Cambridge, which was purchased in 1970 together with its ornate case. It was substantially altered and enlarged by Noel Mander of London before installation in the south chapel in 1971. The original pipe work dating from the 1870's was by Gray & Davison and had been revoiced by Harrison & Harrison in 1911.
Bells
Bells have been rung for centuries at St Peter's inviting people to worship.
Bells are generally rung for Sunday services, for weddings (by arrangement) and on other special occasions.
The oldest of the church bells is dated 1603, and the peal was made up to eight bells in 1762. Bells eventually show wear and have to be re-cast, and the last occasion on which this took place was in 1948.

Daglingworth Church Of The Holy Rood Part One Cotswold Churches
Daglingworth is famous for it's Saxon carvings, four 10th century sculptures, three of which were discovered when the chancel arch was rebuilt in 1850. They had been used as the jambs of the arch with the face side hidden in the wall. Three of the sculptures appear to be the work of one craftsman and depict Christ crucified, Christ in majesty and St Peter. There is also a Saxon window reset in the vestry that was cut from a Roman altar stone.
The village of Daglingworth lies to the north of Cirencester at the head of the Duntisbourne valley, an area of immense natural beauty. The river winds for some distance through ancient Cotswold villages and passes four churches of Saxon origin, an ancient landscape.
